The nominating committee reported their selection of. ten candidates for vacancies existing on the board of dirertors. An additional three candidates were nominated from the floor. The club will elect six new directors at the May meeting from the following nominees: Thomas Burke, Herbert Clausen, Ing Corcoran, William Dostal, Charles Lindwall, Charles MacCallum, Charles Hamage, Jack Schmitt, Carl Simonsen, Gus Smith, Harry Miller, John Smith and John McKellv. Capt. and Mrs. John Miller, USN, and Mr. and Mrs. William Ewald were welcomed as new members of the oraginzation, The first annual roller skating party to be given by the M c H e n r y S h o r e s c l u b on Thursday, May 25, was announced. The .annual Fun Fair is no\v planned for July 8. April 13. The trip was arranged by the McHenry chapter of this nation-wide organization, devoted to the training of our youth who aspire to become business leaders of the future. Congratulations, Pam. Easter Egg Hunt a Success The Easter bunny braved the wind and cold weather on Saturday, April 1. in order to provide the children of McHt>nry Shores with an afternoon of fun. The beach was a scene of much activity as the papa bunnies concealed about twenty dozen eggs where they would not be too hard to fin'). An eg?r malfted "prize" brought an additional award to the lucky finder. In some cases, it brought a tear to the ej e when the egg was not marked with the word prize. After the hunt was over, the mamma bunnies served refreshments. Honor Student Pam Munroe, daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Ed Munroe was honored recently by being selected for membership in the National Honor society. Thla achievement does not corne easily. Pam is 16 and a member of the junior class at McHenry high school. The school faculty selects the top 5 petcent bf the junior class baser! upon character, leadership, scholarship and service, for membership in the society. Pam plans on attending the state convention of the Future Business Leaders of America Hi Neighbor The Harry Millers at 305 Stillhill drive came to McHenry Shores from Chicago in July, 1959. This happy familv Consists of Harry, Ruth and daugh^ ter, Ruth Marianne. When this reporter asked Harry why they moved from Chicago to the Shores, the answer was so familiar. "We liked the spot", he said, and from all appearances they still do. A 15-foot runabout provides fun for early morning runs on the river. Also keeping the lawn and garder\\ in good shape provides an excuse for spending lots of time outdoors. Harry is vice-president ' of the McHenry Shores club and also a member of the Masonic Order. He commutes daily to Chicago where he Is employed by Armour and Co. as superindent of Printing. Ruth manages the household, bat still has time to devote to many extra-curricular activities such as gardening, sewing, and cultivating African Violets. The child welfare chairman, Mrs. Ilaverne Gregory, works closely with the welfare of ficer of the American Legion post to. promote two, main objectives: to insure care and protection for the children of veterans; and to improve conditions for all children. Direct serviqe in the community included holiday food baskets which were given tp needy veterans' families and other temporary emergency assistance. Mrs. Gregory js informed on available veterans' relief assistance and public welfare services and has advised several families of these sources of help. Department president, Mrs. Mabel Grice of Kankakee, has asked the 915 Illinois units to promote interest and increase activity for the benefit of mentally ill and retarded children. McHenry unit has cooperated wholeheartedly in Mrs. Grice's "special project" by sending cash1* contributions to aid American Indian children: by arranging a party for the Woodstock Children's Home: and by collecting clean, wearable, used clothing for needy families.
