Thursday, April 27, 1961 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALEH Pistakee Highlands Fun Fair Is Huge Success Hazel Money nr. 7-3320 The fun fair held at the JdSisburg school on April 15 was a huge success, financially as well as entertaining. A lot of time and hard work waput into making it the success it was. Mrs. Alice Mayer, chairman of the committee, expressed her appreciation at the P.T.A. meeting to all those who made donations and those who worked. Jjostallation of new officers was held on the eighteenth. Mrs. Lorraine Hurcker, installed the following to serve as next year's officers. President, Lee Marshall; vice-president, Mrs. Dorothy Hemic, secretary, Mrs. Hazel Morley and treasurer, Mrs. Marion 5Pflug. Mr. Marshall gave a v short speech *and expressed his ideas for the coming year. te seventh .and eighth - chorus under the direction of Mr. Prince sang a few selections to the delight of all present. Their program consisted of three religious songs and two calypso numbers. Their rendition of 'Yellow Bird' was just wonderful. The> are very good and we can all be proud of them and their fine work. • Christened James Robert, infant son of Bob and Rosemary Lutz, was baptized on April 23 at St. John's church. Sponsors for the baby were Clarence Lutz and Betsy Reilly. A family gathering was held in the Lutz home. Page Seventeen Welcome *9 warm welcome to Lester and Elsie Rosenquist who recently moved into their home at 213 Lake street. They have two children, Debbie and Butchie. Mount Hope Choir The choir under the direction of Marvin Jones is busily preparing their musical selections for the great day when the fir® service will be held in the new church. Steve and Geri Vrbik have returned from a ten d?.y trip to Hot Springs, Ark. Marge Moreth and V) Schuble were luncheon guests last Wednesday at the home of Lorraine Lindemann. Bat and 'Ron Jackson and family spent April 18 :n Chicago at Pat's mothers home. Also visiting was Pat's aunt from out of. town. Bob and Tina O'Malley and family have moved from Agatha avenue to a home on Lake street. With a glance out my living room window I see Adam Rzechula walking around with his arm in a sling. Hope it's nothing too serious. "Toots Spankuch entertained her card club last Friday in her home. Dee Gregg, Marie Schlick, Pat Jackson, Meryl Fletcher, Audrey Misavice and Ann Szypelbaum were therp for an evening of hot card playing. Roy and Gert Snell will arrive home Saturday after "spending two weeks in Chicago -and vicinity visiting relatives and friends. Happy birthday to Bobby Hurckes who will be ten years old on April 29. I am sorry to report that Dale and Tommy Morin are the latest measles victims. Paul Farwell is back to school but sister, Laura, is still a oick little girl. Also Laura and Carter Gregg were ill last week. Betty Clark has been home very ill for the past week. Keith stayed home for a couple of days to take care of l'rr. I hope you are all feeling better now." Barb and Lorraine Lindemann visited with Rose Fries in Wauconda last Tuesday. Audrey Morin was hostess to a group of friends at the home of her mother-in-law's on April 21. The occasion was a demonstration. Pat and Ron Jackson entertained friends from Trevor, Wis., last Sunday. Guests for the day were Orv. and Mickte Brodie and children. Kay Sielisch was one of the hostesses at the Day of Recollection, April 16, at St. John's church. She served coffee and cookies with the rest of the c o m m i t t e e . S e v e r a l women from the Highlands enjoyed the day and are locking forward to the next one. Mary Mueller's sister and brother-in-law were hurt in an automobile accident while on their way here to visit the Muellers last Saturday. Ruth Lemmons is once again a working gal. She has accepted a position in Highland Park. Pat Jackson entertained a group of her former school chums from Chicago last Wednesday in her home. On April 22 Herb and Lorraine Lindemann dined out and attended a show in Waukegan in honor of their anniversary. Barb Sisk was surprised to look out her kitchen window last week to see her year old Greg sitting as sweet as could be on top of the dog house. It's all in a days work, Barb. Welcome I would like to welcome to our fair community Mr. and Mrs. George Hanisch who have moved into their new home at 413 West Broadway. George is from Munich, Germany, and has been in America for 10 years. His wife, Elizabeth, arrived in this country seven months ago from Munich. They have a son, George, who is 4% years old. LITTLE THESPIANS Summer stock and off- Broadway theater will have to look to their laurels whemthe Illinois State Fair little thespians take to the boards this year. Franklin Rust, general manager of the fair, has announced the addition of a special classification of one-act plays to the children's, youth and special activities section of this year's exposition. The plays will be performed at various hours from Aug. 11 through the twentieth in the theater of the Illinois building on the fairgrounds. Casts, not to exceed ten persons, will be given up to 35 minutes to present a play. The state fair will furnish lighting, spotlights, sound system, backdrops and stagehands and dressing rooms. Rules and regulations and entry blanks can be obtained now by writing to the Children's and Youth Department, Illinois State Fair, Springfield. I have had many calls this past week in regards to people dumping garbage in the slough. This is illegal and it breeds rats and brings diseases. It is also unpleasent to see. Carol Hayes, Hannah Harner and a few of the other residents have been cleaning up much of the rubbish others have thrown in the slough. Let's all help keep Eastwood Manor a better place to live. First Communion Last Sunday St. Mary's children made their First Communion. Steve Simpson was one of the many who received the Sacrament of Holy Euch- |ist. Twelve of his relatives braved the storm to congratulate Steve. Dance Recital i Cheryl Fenner danced with twelve other little girls at the fecital at St. Mary's last week. The children appeared as "Little Darkies" and danced to the tune of "Shortnin' Bread", fcheryl's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Zgorski, and Mr. /and Mrs. Edgar Littchen, friends from Chicago, came out to see Cheryl's performance. Snowbound This is not a title of a book I just read. It was the plight of Betty and Ed Radher and their children, Jackie and Pam, last Sunday. They went to Wheaton to visit their daughter, Sandy, and her husband, Dallas Rigler. They had a delightful dinner prepared by Sandy, the bride's first big dinner. But their trip home will never be forgotten. It took them 12 hours and they spent the night in a gas station near Chicago, with about fifty other people. Anniversary Greetings Goes to Toni and Jim Olson on May 1 and to Peggy and Walt G&rrelts on May 3. This and That Madeline Freckman had a few ladies in the other night for cards. Lois Bianchi, Judy Huemann, Jackie and Marcey Strassner from Holiday Hil.s joined in the fun. Jackie Strassner was the winner. Rita Simpson, Marilyn Fultz and Marilyn's mother had an enjoyable day in Chicago last week. They attended a stockholders meeting and, went t( lunch. P Bill Harner and Stanley John attended a teacher's conference in Urbana last weekend. While they were away Hanah and Bonnie John spent the weekend together. On Friday they went out to dinner and enjoyed a few games of bowling. John and Pat Coughlir. had a delightful evening Friday. They joined another couple for dinner and dancing at Antioch. • Doctor and Mrs. Leroy Harner enjoyed the company of Hannah and Bill and their grandchildren last week.
