It will be a one week honeymoon for them in Pennsylvania - then on to Roanoke, Va., for a visit with the groom's sister. Upon their return, they will take up residence in Chicago, where Frank is employed. A nuptial mass was read at St. Mary's church, Woodstock, uniting Edward A. Mass and Miss Julianna Gaulke of Woodstock. The groom's parents are -Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Mass of Lake Shore,, Drive. 250 guests attended the wedding reception held at Martinetti's in Crystal Lake. This young couple departed for Philadelphia to combine honeymoon and residence. Ed was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy during commencement exeicises at Marquette university. His bride, also a former student at Marquette, is now a graduate nurse. After three months training, Ed will be reassigned a permanent billet in the Navy. Sam B. Chapman, Jr., of the U.S. Air Force hospital, Wiesbaden, Germany, where their "son", Edward, is stationed. Lt. Chapman is Ed's commanding officer. Ed was promoted to Airman, first class on June 1 and the letter is a special commendation. In part, Lt. Chapman states "he is really an excellent airman in every respect and we feel fortunate to have him as a member of this organization." He goes on to say "you can certainly be very proud of your son, as he is an example of what one would ilke to see in American manhood. His job performance is I excellent and he recently rej ceived a very fine performance : report from his supervisor". Fun Festival Cancelled Time is running but and conditions are such that it will be impossible for the Cullom- Knoll association to run its annual summer carnival. The building fund committee headed by Frank Poledna and Ed Hammerstein will receive additional help from Ruth Smith (none better!), Jake Loeschel, Don Parenti and Myra Murray. A public party to help the mercury rise in our building fund thermometer (which has reached a level of $2,440) will be held at the beach on ^Saturday, July 1. Time will be published next week. Court of Awards The Lakemoor Girl Scout troop 309 held its final court of awards on Monday evening, June 5, at the community house. A large crowd of parents attended. This Was a big event for three of the girls who had started Scouts when they were 7 years old and having now reached 14, said good-bye to their sister Scouts and leaders. The evening started with the flag ceremony, after which Mrs. Morrison, Scout leader, welcomed all those present. Patrols. 1 and 2 put on short skits and a commercial was given by patrol 3. Six girls who completed their tenderfoot rank were given their pins and were welcomed into the troop. They were: Jackie Bitterman, Patty Zabroski, Judy Fantus, Dolly Pattelero, Valerie Schuringa and Karen Schiavone. Roberta C o u n 1 e y received her second class rank. Susan Bitterman, Bonnea Bonder, Barbara Erickson, Carol Erickson, Pamela Kibbe, and Sharon Myers received five year pins. The others of the troop received one year pins. The high poipt of the evening was the presentation of the highest rank in intermediate Scouting, the curved bar, to Regina Heckmannn. Regina is the fourth girl to receive the award out of 100 Scouts who have come and gone since the troop started seven years agp. The others so distinguished previously are Carol Booster, Micki , Morrison and Kathy Brzezinski. After the curved bar ceremony Mrs. Morrison presented farewell gifts to Kathy Brzezinski, Micki Morrison, and Regina Heckmann and then the rest of the girls sang a traditional farewell song. Refreshments were served. This was highlighted by a beautiful cake inscribed with the departing girls names. Village Meeting The monthly village meeting will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the community house. The next village meeting will be held at the regular time, the second Thursday of the month. Summer Activities for Girl Scouts Troop 309 will discontinue regular meetings until after school starts in September. Day Camp will be July 10 through July 14. Mrs. Morrison will serve as camp unit leader. Two cook-outs with hikes are planned for the summer. The troop is also forming a drill team. This will practice all summer. Interested Scouts should contact Mr. or Mrs, Morrison. The membership is closed since the number is now thirty-two. Any girls who are 10 or over may get on a waiting list by contacting Mrs. Morrison.
