So asked me, Kay Sielisch, to write for her this week, and asking an ex-reporter to write news is like keeping old fire horses. It gets in your blood and it is a wonderful feeling to be back at the typewriter even for a week. I hope I have not forgotten too much and will make it half as interesting as "~zel does every week. B.vkotas Enjoy Splash Party On July 15, fourteen couples enjoyed a very interesting splash party, thanks to the efforts of Rcb and Barb Sisk and Bob and Betty Flint, who were the hosts for the evening. The parly was held at the Flints' home at Indian Point, Antioch, on the water front. -They enplaying water games wmeh included *an inner tube water relay race for the worn- £n and' a greased watermelon in the water for the men. The Bvkotas enjoyed a weiner roasi-^mnd after the meal they roasted marshmallows. They ended Ihe evening playing volley ball. St. John's Dinner and Carnival ®>on't forget the dates, August 4, 5 and 6, of the annual carnival and dinner. Friday night the annual fish fry will open the three day affair. Sunday there will be the roast beef family style dinner. Rescue Squad Dance Please get your tickets from the folks who have them on saJfl for the dance Sept. 2. The Rescue Squad needs all the money it can raise. Let's all get busy and buy tickets, even if you do not attend. New Meeting Place for Woman's Club President of the Woman's club, Kay Sielisch received a letter from the church board of the Mount Hope Methodist clfr'ch. giving Ihe club permission to hold its monthly meetings in the church hall. Pet Skunk It is safe to approach Karen Shastel and her pet skunk, Chanel, thanks to Karen's father, Clarence. Karen has a two month old skunk for a pet which her father saved frtflri being shot. After the brave rd^ue on his part, he promptly look Chanel to the vet's to be descerited. It is causing quite a sensation in the Highlands. News of Your friends and Neighbors Darlcne and George Neesan had a farewell dinner for Darleene's folks, the Stanges from Broadview, last Sunday. All tl^Neesans' neighbors are sad t(Wosc them and our loss is Broadview's gain. Ricky, Mike and Danny Madock spent several days with grandmother Butler and jimmy stayed with grandmother Madock, while their mother was in the hospital. All the children were greatly impressed with their new baby sister. Little Patricia Mary vvj|| be the center of attraction. Jeff Novotny, the son of, Ray and Dolly Novotny, caught one of the tagged fish and received a complete fishing outfit for his reward. The Murgatroyds enjoyed a two weeks vacation. They took the kiddies into Chicago for several days to visit the Zoos, Aquarium and many places of interest. Joseph Hanisch enjoyed having his father spend last weekend with them. It was the first time he had seen the son's home after completion. The George VanZevern family enjoyed a week in St. Louis last week. They took in many sights of interest. The Tom Mason home has really been jumping with company. Tom's family has been spending vacations with them. Tom's cousin, Martha, and son, Billy, spent five days with them. Jim and Joan Provo and family, the Rich and Vicki Provo family and the Bob and Terry Provo family spent several days too. Bob and Lee Mc- Mann of Chicago were the lat^ est guests in the Mason home. Blanche Haefliger' was busy entertaining a friend, Mrs. Goldie Burfbn, from Florida. Sylvia Murray was pleasantly surprised when her father came out to help her celebrate her birthday and stayed with the Murrays for a couple of weeks. Her dad really enjoyed his grandchildren and family. Dan and Betty Johnson spent a couple of days in Chicago last week. While there they attended the funeral of their friend, George Bossier, who was a resident of Schaffer's subdivision. Dorothy and Rich Orlowski arrived home Thursday evening after a trip that took them to Pennsylvania, New- York, and Canada, were they spent several days and then to Michigan. Bill and Marie Schlick are busy preparing and looking forward to their daughter, Barb's vacation. Barb is a student nurse at the Grant hospital in Chicago. Barb has no plans, other than to relax, enjoy the Highlands and her mother's cooking. It will be nice to see Barb in the Highlands again. Joan Zilligen attended a bridal shower for her future sister-in-law last Wednesday in Chicago. Joan spent the night with her mother and spent the next day shopping in the city. Happy birthday' to Alma (Red) Sikora who celebrates July 30. Debbie Shastal, Laura Gregg, Julie VanZevern, Debbie Seldon, Debbie Czminski and Joan Zenner helped Cheryl Dowd celebrate her birthday July 17. The girls enjoyed cake and ice cream and played many interesting games. Last Sunday all Cheryl's aunts and uncles and her grandparents helped her and her brother, Jeff, celebrate their birthdays. Jeff celebrated his birthday with a party July 26. Denny and Kay O'Malley of Lansing, Iowa, spent the weekend with Bob and Tena O'Malley. Denny and Bob are cousins and Kay and Tena are old friends. We'aije sorry to report that Betty Rodarmel is back in the McHenry hospital. We hope she will be feeling fine soon. Just received a card from Hazel and Dick Morley. They are really enjoying their camping trip. It .was a big week for them. Haze has not had a vacation from the pliper since she took the job and she is really relaxing but will oe anxious to get back to writing again. So give her lots of calls with your news. It is a tough grind making calls and a few calls from the readers help so much. Marilyn VanZevern served as chairman for the soliciting for food and money for the St. John's dinner and carnival. Her helpers were, Rosemary Thelen, Tena O'Malley, Beverley Lewandowski and Kay Sielisch. If we missed any one and you want to donate food or your time, they need women to serve and work at the carnival. July 17, Kay Sielisch's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hanley, and their two daughters, Donna and Karen, paid the Sielisches a visit. Karen stayed and will spend two weeks with them. Three year old Paul O'Malley got his eyeglasses last Friday to strengthen his eyes after his operation. Mother and Dad O'Malley have been busy taking him in for check ups and Paul is doing real well and is very understanding for a little three year old. Mr. and Mrs. Glowcld and family from Chicago were guests of Leo and Lil Orlowski last Tuesday. Mrs. Jesse Tempera has her two grandchildren, Carol and Richard Tempera of Chicago, with her for a couple of weeks. Janet Sandelin drove her sister, Kathy, back to Broadview last Sunday. Janet Thoren spent last week in Chicago with her aunt and uncle, Bill and Ella Thoren. Craig Thoren, who is a very enterprising young teenager, is working on a farm near; Elkhorn, Wis., for the summer, paid a surprise visit last Monday on the Thoren family. Ed. and Virginia were happy to see Craig looking so well and tanned. Belated anniversary wishes to Ernest and Billie Jones who celebrated July 10. While they were here they attended the wedding reception for Janet Pedersen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sevin Pedersen, held in the Johnsburg community hall. The group of Scouts, and parent chauffeurs, and well wishers departed at 10 a.m., from Scoutmaster Wally Para's home and included: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Patellaro, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ehrhart and daughter, Elsie, Mrs. Helen Wolf and daughters, Cheryl and Diane, Cheryl's friend, Lloyd Sancoucie of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. John Hosie, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wirfs, and Dave Heckmann, and daughter, Regina. There were sixteen impatient and boisterous laughing happy Scouts who were itching for the week of fun on the wonderful acreage of the Rock River, and the knowledge that they would be getting closer to nature and the great outdoors added lighthearted adventure to the occasion. With a stop for chow at Genoa City the group arrived, registered, put up their tents at their assigned site and took their swimming test.
