CAMPION ELEVEN TOO STRONG FOR MARIAIU1 TO 0 Marian Central's Hurricanes this week are looking for an ignition, a sparkplug to move the team's offense consistantly against a strong Wahlert high school eleven at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Woodstock Community high school field. The Hurricanes have gradually shook off most of the effects of their 32-0 drubbing by a fast, aggressive Campion team last weekend. Coach Tom Parsley figures the defensive team will show the aggressiveness and positive attitude it needs to thwart (he Dubuque.Iowa team if some semblance of offensive spark can be developed. Marian's defense kept the countywide Catholic school in the game against the Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin private school until the fourth period when Marian trailed only 12-0.at the end of three quarters. With a much touted offense available. Parsley had hopes his Hurricanes could suddenly I ignite. Three times during the I game a Marian worked to ! within the foe's 15 yard line | twice within the nine-yard | line but fizzled. j Besides ignition problems, i Parsley is faced with the loss I of one or two regulars this ! week because of scholastic ini e l i g i b i l i t y . F i r s t s e m e s t e r j grades Thursday are not expected to be good reading for some of the players, and Marian insists on good grade reports as a first requisite for participation in varsity athletics. Campion gave Marian a physical beating and the Hurricanes must recuperate from the rugged game. Marian carries a 6-2 season record into its battle with Wahlert, and then must face Notre Dame of Niles. To offer an idea on Notre Dame's prowess, the Dons trounced St. Edwards of Elgin 42-0, while Marian beat St. Edwards only 15-0. Marian has backfield :men with the speed to maneuver and the talent to break away if they can get through the line of scrimmage and into the secondary, Parsley believes. Mechanical mistakes have been plaguing the offense most of the season. Marian must be at its best for Wahlert, the former Loras Academy. This is a school of 1,700 students (Compared to Marian's 670 students' and/ lost to Iowa's No. 1, ranked team a week ago only 18-12.
