SMITH Polly Stevens - 385-1256 The community was sadffcned by the death of one of our senior residents. Walter P. Smith passed away quietly, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10. Mr. Smith had been in ill health for several years, and became less active each succeeding year. J^Those perennial yolingsters, Bessie arid Bill Sdhwieger, recently returned from a visit in California. On their trip West they were delayed for 9 hours when the snow sheds over the tracks near Doners Pass west of Reno burned. Their train had to be' rerouted over the Feather River route. They visited with friends and relatives in San Francisco, Berkeley arid ^fcrago, and were wined and dined royally. Among their si'jjht-seeing trips was a Visit to a winery, a ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, and a dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. Mrs. Schwieger brought home holly for Christmas cut from her sister-in-law's holly tree. These two gad-abouters were bubbling over with stories of their ™it. Travellers Lu and Jack Davis and their children, Cathy and Johnny, spent a recent weekend with Jack's relatives. They visited his aunt, Mr" >Reba Smith, in Union City. • Ohio, then on to visit his unjle, Mr. arid Mrs. Frank Davis, in Muncie," Ind. Let's Go Visitin' Let's go visit Florence and Cecil Kanter, at 1808 W. Oakleaf drive. They moved to Sunnyside Estates in May of .1957 from the northwest side *>f Chicago. Florence and Cecil have four children, 5 year old Stevie who goes to kindergarten, 4 year old Mary, 2 year old Johnny and 6 month old Terri. Cecil is a commercial artist and his number one hobby is photography. He is a former reporter of the camera club. Florence is a past secretary of the SEHOA, Inc. and with four children there is not too much time for hobbies. However, she enjoys knitting and sews beautifully, making many of the children's clothes. Mother helper was Betty Hettermann and cookie hostesses were Connie Jablonski and Tammy Bieschke. One feature of the meeting was singing happy birthday to Linda Hosier. Girl Scout News Thirteen girls attended the Wednesday evening, Dec. 13. meeting of Troop 295. They finished their wreaths and made a tray favor and card to congratulate the Walczynski family on the birth of the new baby . boy. The card was signed by the leaders and all the Girl Scouts. Cookie hostess was Marta Martin and mother helper was Gail Long. The meeting was closed by singing the Christmas carols: Away in the Manger, Mark! the Herald Angels Sing, and The First Noel. Birthday Party Pammy DeFrancisco w a s bubbling over at her first birthday party. Thursday. Doc. 14. Mama Marge invited five small fry for lunch and fed the kids hot dogs, potato chips, jello salad and chocolate milk. After the youngsters played some games and won prizes thov were served ice cream, more chocolate milk and slices of the circus birthday cake. Take home gifts were color and cutout books and little baskets of' candy. Helping Pammy celebrate her birthday were Monica and Mark Davis, Karen and Alan Kennebeck and LuAnn Muleski. That evening a grown-up party for Pammy was a; tended by Rose and Mike Tillich and son, Mickey. Grandma 1 and Grandpa Schondorf and Mrs. Mary Kogut. This required another cake and of course, more presents for Pammy. Brownie News At the Tuesday, Dec. 12. meeting of Troop 150 the girls wrapped the gift for their parents they had made. Tazewell, McHenry c o u n t y s u p e r i n t e n d e n t o f schools, has announced that Northern Illinois university will offer an extension course in McHenry county this winter. Joseph Clettenburg, director of extension, Northern Illinois university, has informed the county office that Education No. 572, School-Community Relations, will be offered during the second semester of the 1961-62 school year. The course (3 credit hours) will start on Monday, Jan. 22, 1962, at the Clarence Olson school, Woodstock.
