The week flew by and they are back at the old grind once again. Thursday, January 4. 1962 News Bits Some thirty lights were stolen off the Tom Dunn evergreen they had decorated in their front yard. ^ LaVerne and Ray Madock entertained Dick and Mary Madock and children, Bob and Marilyn YanZcvern and children and LaVerne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis, on Christmas eve. They had dinner and opened a few presents. Irene and Joe Novotny were most happy for Christmas. It was the first time in ten years all the family has been together for Christmas. Their son. Joseph, came in from New York and the rest of the children all from Illinois were on hand to make it a Christmas Irene and Joe will long remember. Mrs. Rix. "mother of Lorraine Hurckes. spent the week between Christmas and New Year's here visiting. Congratulations to Dan and Betty Johnson who were married 29 years on Dec. 21. And they said it wouldn't last. Tom and Mamie O'Neil spent the Christmas weekend with Mamie's mother. Mrs. Tomilson, in Chicago. They enjoyed their holiday very much. The Dick Conways and Tom Masons were guests of the Janquarts last Wednesday evening for a pre New Years visit. We were supposed to be there too. but we found ourselves dead to the world by 9:30. • Anniversary wishes to Eleanor and Andy Brill who celebrated Jan. 1. - Belated birthday wishes to Dawn Misavice who was 13 years old on Dec. 23. Dolly Novotny and children and Lorraine Hurckes and a few of her boys spent last Wednesday in downtown Chicago. They enjoyed lunch, shopping and the kids were thrilled with the train ride. If you have any affection at all for your K-9 Pal, then you better make sure it stays at home. Four more dogs have been picked up in the last two weeks. I am sorry to hear that Lil O r l o w s k i s u f f e r e d a n o t h e r heart attack in her home last Friday and was in bed for several days. She is also suffering from a very severe cold. Belated happy birthday to Martin Rogde on Dec. 28. Grace sReinhardt had her granddaughter, Denise, visiting her last week. To Alfred and Evelyn Falk we send our best wishes for a happy anniversary on Jan. 7. The Sielisches and Haefligers spent New Year.'s Eve together at the home of Kay and Wally. They enjoyed a quiet evening. Bruce and Carol Petherick returned from Beulah, Mich., last Wednesday morning and they had a wonderful time being in Michigan for Christmas. Bill Moreth was confined to bed last week with a very bad cold. Wally and Audrey Misavice and family were pleased with a visit from Grandpa Osweiler last week. In spite of the bad weather before Christmas weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Hanson, Joyce Heir's parents, made it out here for the holiday. Congratulations to Steve and Ruth Petrov on their eleventh wedding anniversary the end of December. Grace is back 4 o work again. Jamie Malek will soon undergo an operation for tonsils. She has been having trouble with them for quite awhile. Happy birthday to Ann Zeman on Jan. 6. Georgie VanZevern celebrated his ninth birthday on Dec. 30. He celebrated it with Tommy Hurckes, Dickie Morley, Mark VanZevern, Bob Heilgreist, Terry Hovseth and Larry Lutz. They attended a movie in Fox Lake and refreshments at home. Martin and Hazel Rogde spent New Year's visiting Hazel's mother in DeKalb. Dorothy Orlowski's brother. David MacDonald, and family spent last Tuesday with the Orlowskis. Diana Murgatroyd spent a day and a half in McHenry hospital last week and I am glad to say is feeling much better. Bob and Lorraine Hurckes entertained a few friends in their home New Year's Eve. Welcoming baby New Year were George and Marilyn Van- Zevern, Skip and Harriete Wilson, Jim and Ann Mclnerney, Dolly and Ray Novotny, Bonnie and Russ- Jensen and Hank and Betty Zenner. The Sandelins spent Christmas with Betty's mother In Broadview. This was their son's first Christmas. Mrs. Phyllis Phillips is confined to the Condell hospital after she was involved in an auto accident. She is suffering from broken bones and is pretty banged up from her ordeal. Bob and Lorraine Hurckes, and friends, Dick and Betty Moody, went pheasant hunting last Saturday. A few of our residents have received some injuries from ouar.. icy sidewalks and drives. Jmr Mclnerney suffered a broken wrist, Betty Johnson has some painful bruises and Dick Hauck also suffered some discomfort from his fall. Woman's Club News . The annual Christmas party was held on Dec. 20 at the Mount Hope church. The gals enjoyed a visit from Santa and the nice gifts the jolly old gent delivered. Several members of the club presented a skit concerning holiday gift buying and the attitudes of buyers. After being served some Yule Ade, their moods of buying changed for the better. Each member was given a small gift from the club. Carols were also sung. Christmas cookies, coffee and tea were served. A newsletter will be sent out to each member within the next three weeks. There are still some year books available and any member who does not have one can purchase it from the president. It was a pleasant evening for everyone. Blessed Virgin Sodality The next meeting of the sodality will be held Jan, 9. The officers hope as many of the members that can will attend this meeting. It will be the last meeting where three of the officers will preside. The nominating committee will be ready to present a new slate of officers which will consist of a president, secretary and treasurer. Please be there so you can help elect your new slate of officers and to thank the present officers for the fine job they have done.
