Karen is a 1960 graduate of McHenry high school and is now attending Illinois State Normal university. Her fiance is a 1957 graduate of McHenry high school and attends Northern Illinois university. No immediate plans for the Wedding have been made. KNA Camp Will Hold Installation Royal Neighbor Camp No. 3251, will hold its regular meeting on Jan. 9 at 8 o'clock at the Methodist church hall. This is an important meeting, since officers will be installed. Shower Honors Jackie Skidmore A recent personal shower honored Jackie Skidmore, who will become the bride of Ronald Creutz Feb. 3. The party, held at her home, was given by two bridesmaids, Judy Nussbaum and Judy Miller of Chicago, and her maid of honor, Donna Ehlert, of Richmond, cousin of the brideto- be. There were fifteen guests present from Chicago, McHenry, Woodstock, Johnsburg and Wilmot. ESealtfi Improves After an illness extending over several months, the many friends of Ed.' Rook will be happy to learn that he is returning to his duties as manager of the local Jewel store, on a part-time basis for the present, this month. Norwegian Woman's (Hub Observe* New Year's Eve The Norwegian Woman's dub of McHenry and their husbands celebrated New Year's eve at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Braenne, 3719 W. Grand avenue. The welcoming party for the new year was a gala event, celebrated in true Norwegian custom. Weber Family Holds Gatherings Mrs. Thomas Murphy and children, Maureen, Mike, Shawn and Colleen, formerly of Chula Vista, Calif., are residing temporarily with • her parents, the Carl Webers, while the husband and father, Thomas Murphy, is serving on the submarine, Aspro, and later expects to be sent overseas. He spent some time here before leaving for his assignment. During the holidays, the Weber family enjoyed four g a t h e r i n g s , t h r e e o f t h e m Christmas parties. On the twenty-fourth, it was held at the Carl Weber home, and following midnight Mass, they gathered at the Bill Weber residence. Christmas day dinner was enjoyed at the Bill Neumann home. Mrs. Robert Stueben is chairman of the committee in charge of the social hour which will precede the meeting. Mrs. Harry P. Stinespring, Jr., well known to everyone in the community, will review the book, "To Kill A Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee, which is among the top of today's best sellers. Mrs. Stinespring is a graduate of Northwestern university, having majored in speech,, and has lived in McHenry for fourteen years. She is the wife of a busy^attorney, the mother of four children and has two grandsons, whom she is willing to talk about but is reluctant to give any information on her own talents and interests. She gives of her talent and kindness in many directions quietly, and with little thought of her* self. Mrs. Clarence Keirn delighted the McHenry Woman's club last year with her singing and has consented to sing several numbers on Jan. 12, including, "If You Feel Like Singing, Sing", aria from the opera "Louise" and "A Little Song of Life" by Malotte. NEWLYWEDS RESIDE HERE A wedding of interest was solemnized at St. John the Baptist church, Johnsburg, on Dec. 2, when Miss Karen Joann Prouty, daughter of e Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Prouty of Richmond, became the bride of William E. Pierce, Jr., of N. Pitzen road, McHenry. Following their wedding trip, they returned to live at 2813 Bayview Lane, McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. John Passfield of the Volo area were surprised at an open house held at their home last Saturday, Dec. 30, honoring their silver wedding anniversary. The event was planned and carried out by two nieces, Diana and Nelle Jensen. During the hours from 1 to 8 p.m., about 125 neighbors, friends and relatives called to extend best wishes and enjoy a few hours of visiting, highlighted by the serving of a buffet supper. Alma Dowell and John Passfield were married Dec. 30, 1936, at the Methodist parsonage in Woodstock. They have resided in the Volo community all their married life. Neither of the attendants at their wedding twenty-five years ago was able to be present at last week's celebration. They were Pete Dowell of Superior, Wis., and Olive Rehberg ol Loves Park, Rockford. McHenry, were the honored guests on Satur day evening at a dinner and reception given for them on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The Smiths, who were highschool sweethearts in St. Cloud. Minn., have been residents of McHenry since 1924. They were summer residents on the Fox river until 1945, when they bought Ihe farm residence of the late John Schmidt and became permanent resident? shortly thereafter. In 1959 they bought the Chapel Hill Country club and operated it fov about two years. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of the State Normal school at Superior, Wis., and taught school for a few years before her marriage. She taught in Iron River and Superior,. Wis., and in Duluth, Minn. Dr. Smith who graduated from the Chicago College of Medicine prt.' Surgery, practiced in Chicago for almost forty years. For the last twenty-five years before his retirement in 1956, he had offices in the Marshall Field annex in Chicago. Church and club work, as well as gardening, have been the principal activities of Mrs. Smith sincc her permanent residency in McHenry. She is deeply interested in the preservation of wild life and has long been a member of the National Wildlife federation of Washington, D. C. She is also a member of the McHenry Garden club and Woman's club. Both are members of the Eastern Star and Dr. Smith is a fifty year member of the Masonic order. The reception and dinner were given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schaettgen, Miss Rose Schneider and Mr. Milford Wilke assisted in the arrangements for the party and the greeting of the forty guests invited to participate in the celebration. In addition to the McHenry friends and neighbors of the Smiths who were present, there were friends and relatives from out of town. Among the relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith of Capron and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith of Elgin. Dr. Smith's brother, Ellis Smith, and his wife of Capron were unable to attend because of illness. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Weeks of Belvidere and Mr. and Mrs. GuS Peters of Union were present. The Louis Benton family of Chicago were also out-of-town guests. Among the many beautiful plants and flower arrangements was one from the Eastern Star of McHenry. JUDITH POWERS , LOVELY BRIDE OF DONALD TIBBITTS A lovely mid-winter wedding was solemnized in St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry, at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec. 30, when Miss Judith Powers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Powers of Crystal Lake, became the bride of Mr. Donald Tibbitts, son of Mr. and Mis. Edward Tibbitts of Woodstock. Rev. Fr. Edward C. Coaklev officiated at the nuptial Mass. The pretty, young bride wore a white, floor length bridal gown,. styled with long lace sleeves, trimmed with sequins, and scalloped neckline. Her crown was fashioned of sequins and held in place a shoulder length veil. She carried a bouquet of white mums. Attending her as maid of honor was her sister, Patricia Powers, and bridesmaid was Linda Powers of Woodstock, a cousirt. They were attired similarly in street length, red taffeta dresses, velvet trimmed, with which they wore red velvet half hats and tiny veils. Bpth carried bouquets of white roses. Thomas Tibbitts of Woodstock served his brother as best man, and groomsman was Jerry Nolan of McHenry, a close friend. Mrs. Powers selected for her daughter's wedding a beige sheath dress" and white carnation corsage. Mrs.* Tibbitts wore a blue lace dress and similar corsage. Eighteen members of the bridal party and immediate families enjoyed breakfast at the Legion home, where 125 relatives and friends gathered at 2 in the afternoon for a reception. The newlyweds left on a honeymoon trip to Mexico for two weeks, after which they will reside in an apartment oh Dean street, Woodstock. The bride attended Crystal Lake high school and is employed at the Oaks. Her husband received his education at St. Mary's high school in Woodstock and is an employee of the Auto Lite in Woodstock. Brady, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brady of Lakemoor, has been elected to membership in Alpha Sigma, the College of St. Thomas chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma, national honor society for students of Catholic colleges and universities. He is a graduate of McHenry high school and is a junior majoring in accounting. The speeding charge against Brian Powers, which appeared in last week's court news, was not for a case heard in Constable court last week, as given to the newspaper, but was actually a previous charge, which fine has been paid. WOODSTOCK PLANT TAKEN OVER BY PUBLIC SERVICE The Public Service Company division of Commonwealth Edison company Tuesday took over the electric system of Woodstock and began serving some 3,600 customers in .the city. The city, which has owned and operated its own plant since 1897, sold the system to the Edison company for $2,131,- 000 following extended negotiations. The final papers effecting the sale were signed Tuesday morning by Mayor Thore Emricson of Woodstock and Thomas G. Ayers, vice-president of the utility. Commonwealth this week completed its down payment of $200,000. Woodstock will receive an additional $200,000 payment by Jan. 9. The balance of the purchase price will be paid over the next thirtyfive years, with interest . .at the rate of 4 Mi per cent on the unpaid balance. WINS SCHOLARSHIP ' Richard J.
