Page Four THE McHENftY PLAINDEALEH Thursday, January 4* 1962 *U eaHJt Wa&Aii. SO I HEAR... Clearing the files to start the new year, we bumped into a June 9, 1949 issue of the Plaindealer which was left for us by Mrs. Ernest (Madeleine) Schroeder. We imagine the magic name of John Dreymiller caught Madeleine's eye. We had reported that John tired of the Cubs so attended a White Sox game after a 30-year absence from the park. The Sox lost -so John decided he wouldn't go back for another 30 years. We, also noted that "Daily Pinups" were appearing at that time. How time does fly! And how does one remain "Anonymous" all those years? Those Packers of Green Bay really packed a punch in beating the big city Giants for the pro football championship. Charlie Goodell should have lived to see that day. fie was a great Packer fan when Packer fans were hard to find in these parts. One friend phoned just before the old year passed out of the picture to wish us a Happy "New Year, explaining his custom of phoning his friends rather than sending cards. We thought it a nice idea. The Warriors of MCHS battled through to win the Grayslake basketball tournament Saturday night, beating the high-scoring Lake Forest five. Our holiday schedule did not fjermit us to see that game, but our congratulations go to Cliff Fulton and his boys. On Saturday night of this week, the Warriors travel to Elgin to meet St. Edward's in a non-conference game that could turn into quite a tussle. Dundee will be here Friday, January 12, and Antioch is coming to town the following night. There is work and play ahead. Now is the time you would like to clobber those advertisers who urged, "Buy now ati.i pay next year." Credit Marie Yegge with compiling the Sports Review of '61. 'Twas a great help. We like a gal like Marie! Short week. We expected some reports to be turned in on various tournaments, but will have to run a review next week. DAILY PINUPS: The fellow who's looking for soft snaps, somehow leads a hard life. In reference to feeling like a two-year old -- it could be a colt, it might be an egg. Then there was the guy who referred to his physician as a "dry dock" because he wouldn't give him a prescription. A "gold brick" is the mistaken identity often thought to be a golden opportunity. P. MORENZ TOPS POINT-HAKERS IN NOHTH SUBURBAN Paul Morenz of the McHenrj Warriors leads the scoring in the North Suburban league, holding a 1-point edge over Roger Eckert of the Woodstock Blue Streaks. Lake Forest went into high gear in the first half to lead by a score of 39 to 32. The Warriors gave their followers some anxious moments in the final period, but had the guns necessary for victory. Paul Morenz again topped all scorers with 13 baskets and 6 free throws for a grand total of 32 points. The T.N.T. girls packed a punch with scores like this: M. Hettermann 568; J. Sladek 551 and M. Smith 522. Ray Sisco came through with a 245-IB30 score in the Wednesday Nite Mixed group. Lennie Thennes had a 234 game that sent his series 6 points over the coveted 600. Whoops! Jim Larkin was up to his old tricks with a 670 series.
