Page Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, January, 25, 1962 CUfdj&Jh* so I HEAR... Stopped in at Charlie Brown's West Side gathering spot this week and found the place buzzing. He is installing a revolving door next week. Was so disappointed in not meeting one of those you know who Cub fans. Of course, Lucille Harrison was there -- a returnee from the days of the late "African Druggist". She fits that place like she had never been away MCHS WRESTLERS HAVE WON MATCHES FROM ALL TEAMS IN NORTH SUBURBAN CONFERENCE Down Barrington 24-17 For Ninth Victory In Row And we found it quite natural to meet John Dreymiller. "Uncle John" is buying' candy for the girls this week. If any of you feel you might be forgotten on Valentine's Day, jus? put your name in the box and ! "Uncle John" will see you arc ' not disappointed. Larry Huck calls our attention to DePaul basketball box scores and some good performances by Denny Freund. Denny has had the makings o> a great athlete since he was knee high. We used to watch him play catch with his grand- 1 father, A. P. "Tony" Freund. i and marvelled at how a small j boy could stay right in there and not bat an eye. We sincerely hope Denny can go to the top in athletics. Had a humorous note from Jeppe Jepsen this week, commenting on one reference to the old Model T Fords One time his flivver started up anO pushed him through a wall- Another time it fell off the jack, took off across the field and- would have wound up at a neighbor's place if it hadn'J spun on a patch of ice. Jeppe caught it like a run-away horse. Our friend, Jeppe, winds up with, "Maybe those were th« good old days." Kegler Dick Kleinhuizen clicked for Kleinhans this week with a 248 game in 623. BoV Low had a 238 game and Charlie Corso 235. Robert Larson rolled a 655 series and D. Ferris had a 243 game in a 650 series. Jim Larkin was 200 and over all the way across the board for a 630 series. A1 the Palace, E. Czajkowski bowled a 245 game in the Tuesday Niters League. Ol course, those fellows bowl that way all the time. In our best days we would have had to bowl two nights in a row to get that many pins. Coach Bill Hutchinson's success with the MCHS wnv.tlinr squad this year is worthy of a pat on the back. Hope you have been following the reports on this page. Bill is the right kind of fellow who gives all the credit to his boys. Since a coach gets the blame when things go not so good, we like to give him credit when things go right. SUDDEN THOUGHT -- If you ever sat on an antique horsehair sofa, you understand why grandma wore six petti coats. Some fellow came up with the thought that if our highway death toll continues at its present rate, the Russians can forget about building a better H-bomb. McHenry high school wrestlers whipped Barrington 24-]7 for their ninth consecutive win and eleventh win of the year. They have also beaten all the. conference teams, Dundee 30- 10, Zion 35-8, C vi tal Lake 38-6. Pair, line 23-21, Libertyville 32^13, and Barrington 24-17. McHenry mu?t still win the conference tournament in order to be conference champs. Defeating all conference teams in dual mai^hes docs not count as team standings, but doc^ count in seed'ng all wrestlers for the tournament to be held at McHenry Feb. 9 and 10. Latimer Wins Again Heavyweight Wayne "Bull" Latimer asssnred McHenry of a victory over Barrington, not only by not getting pinned, but by beating Dunn of Barrington bv a convincing 6-0 score. Latimer has a perfect record against conference wrestlers. More Winners Ken Lishamer (112) bea" his opponent 2-0 to give hint his thirteenth win of the year arainst only a draw. Jay Sayler wrestled smoothly to a 7-2 victory. Ken Thoren (127 > wrestled a terrific bout to capture his first conference win, and timely so. Senior A1 Baur (138) won his tentlv-match of the year against only three defeats, by dominating his man with a 5-0 score. Jim Dowhin (145) out-wrestled and outcountered his' opponent by a lop sided 11-0 score. This was Jim's eighth win of the year. Two Draws Neither Jim Meyer (133) nor his opponent could escape from each other and their bout ended with a 0-0 score. Lou Stramaglio (154) blew a 4-1 lead through carelessness with 35 seconds left by giving his opponent a take down for 2 points, and a 2 point near fall. Lou managed to get a draw with riding time. Losers Tom Hauck (95) and Bill Creighton dropped their matches against Barrington, but these beys always give a fair account of themselves and should be ready for the conf e r e n c e t o u r n a m e n t . W a y n e Fuehs (165) lost on riding time to Lewis of Barrington in a close bout. Wayne is one of McHenry's most outstanding and hard working wrestlers and will get another crack at his opponent in the conference. Win for T.vehewicz Before the match, McHenry wrestlers said, they would do, "Our best to get this victory for Bill Tychewicz" who dislocated his knee several weeks a"o. "Rill would l:ke them to do their best for the conference. Results: McHenrv 24 dec. dec. dec. draw Barrington 17 95 pounds: Bratt (B) dec. Hauck, Lishamer Pin Opponents Tommy Hauck (95) pinned his man in 40 seconds of the first round. Tom could become one of McHenry's most outstanding lightweights by the end of the season. Ken Lisha^ mer (112) pinned his man in 1:52 of the first round. Ken leads the team in total points with 45 at the present time. Wayne Latimer is next with 33 points. Tychewicz Out of Line Up Bill Tychewicz (127) who dislocated his knee last January 2, will be lost to the Warriors for the conference meet. His loss will hurt the Warriors chances in the tournament. Some nice bluegills have been taken from Brandenburg Lake by those fellows fortunate enough to obtain guest passes. We have been among the lucky ones on several occasions and can understand why the lake has been kept private. The word from Madison has it that Lake Mendota has been producing some mighty big perch lately. Ninety miles does not seem too far to drive for a pail full of the jumbos Mendota has to offer. A prize trap shoot will be held by the McHenry Sportsmen's Club, Sunday, Jan. 28, on the club's grounds near Pistakee Bay. It will start at 1 p.m. and food will be served in the heated clubhouse. Just because all the bird seasons are closed is no reason to hang up your shotguns until next fall. Trapshooting can be a lot of fun and, above all, a good way to keep in practice. Free courses in Small Boat Handling will be held at the Waukegan Yacht Club in Waukegan, starting Jan. 29, and at Grant Community high school in Fox Lake, starting Feb. 7. These courses will be offered by the Waukegan Power Squadron and their purpose is to make boating safer and more enjoyable for the entire family. Research teams of the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation are working on skating skills as part of the nationwide Sports Skills Test Program. This project is under the direction of Louis E. Means, executive secretary of the AAHPER, and Bud Wilkinson, coach of the University of Oklahoma football team, both of whom are answerable directly to President Kennedy. The AAHPER program is tailored perfectly for roller skating because it is directed at the average skater rather than the expert. It is specifically designed to attract and hold the interest of boys and girls of average athletic skills in an effort to promote youth fitness as a vital national need in America's struggle against World Communism.
