J better never late DAILY PIN-UPS Even iron can be it is first warmed. It has been a busy week in sports circles hereabouts. Friday night we saw Harrington beat our Warriors on the home floor. Saturday ni.uht we saw Woodstock's new gym for the, first time and incidentally saw their Blue Streaks edge McHenry 77 to 73. In those two games we saw everything--too much of some Some players and some -playslooked great. Some looked not so good. We saw coaches with blood pressure soaring and officials who couldn't please anybody. There comes a time in every season of every sport that we decide it is time to give the game back to the boys. When a team is losing, some blame the players, some blame the coach, others blame the officials. In McHenrv's case, a hard, cold look at the box scores tell us our teams (both varsity and sophs) have many more fouls than other teams. Another fact is that our teams hit the skids in the third period. Maybe that half time rest is not good for them. We dunno. Maybe <. other teams get lumps of sugar between halves. Anonymous % By Jack Walsh WARRIORS LOSE 77-73(BATTLE TO WOODSTOCK There is seldom anything wrong with a team that a good victory won't cure. Let's have it when Crystal Lake comes to see us Friday night. Had a big time at "Chuck Hiller Night" in the American Legion Hall at Woodstock Monday night. Players from the 1952 state championship Tiger team were present and had a lot of fun going back over the years. It was a nice gesture on the part of the Legion group and was appreciated by all. Gene Freund played host, to the Shamrocks Monday night •in his parents' home and wants one and all to know they will meet again Monday, Feb. 12. The Shamrocks are getting new uniforms fhis year and plan to give it a real dash to put a winner on the field in *62. They will start practice in the old gym at the high school some time in March. If you want to play ball or if you want to boost the team in some way, turn out for a short, snappy meeting the second Monday in February. A note attached to Tomasello's score sheels tells us that Denise Koch, a 10*2 year old girl, bowled four straight games of 217-203-206-182 for a total of 808 pins in open bowling. Man, what a girl! And look at this! Bud Gende bowled a 614 series at the Palace J where else?), featuring a 228 game. Move over, you old bowlers. The Warriors of McHenry High gave further proof Saturday ni'^ht at Woodstock that this i<? not their year in basketball. The fans had their money' worth of excitement as the McHenry tenm fought like all get out in the fourth quarter, but could not ward off a 77-73 defeat. If- you did not see the game, you c&ri get a real chill out of a study of the box score. You will see the Warriors out-shot the Blue Streaks 31-20 in the field goal total and had ance in individual scoring. From here on the picture gets The mysterious cisco fish have shown up again this year in Lake Geneva. Catches up to two pounds hayg been reported. No one seems to know much about thum except that they show up every few years and then vanish completely. Years ago, we heard a story from an Indian diver who had retrieved' a drowning victim from Crystal Lake. He contended that an underground river ran between Lake Geneva and Cry^tcfl Lake. We did some checking at that time Ikarrington Bronc Boys Beat MCHS Varsity 69 to 60 It was anything but a jolly evening for McHenry basketball fans as they watched Barrington's Broncos outplay our Warriors here last Friday night in a 69-60 game that was hardly that close. Losing wasn't so bad. It was something in the air. The game was as close as could be as the first quarter and first half ended in ties. Then came the third period and McHenry's downfall. The home team out-fouled 'em again, this time 28 to 18. In fact, three of the Warrior starters, May, Petersen and Kusch went out on fouls. Paul Morenz was a bright ligkt^for McHenry, scoring 32 'toints. 1 When the game was over, Coach Fulton had his team sit- 4;ng on the bench. Reports halve it that when the spectators cleared out, the boys had a practice session. CHAMPIONSHIP OF TRI-COUNTY TO ST.
