Page Twelve THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, March 22, 1962 |'i U McCullom Lake June Nuptials For Miss Cable Eve Levesque .June is the traditional month for brides and what a lovely one Miss Barbara (Poppy) Cable will make on Saturday, 'June 2, when she will wed Mr. Phillip Nienstedt of Scottsdale, Ariz. They will repeat their vows at All Saints Episcopal church in Chicago. Poppy's parents are Alice and Bud Cable of 5120 W. Parkview. and her future bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Nienstedt of Riverside, 111. Following their reception and honeymoon, the young couple will make their home in Arizona where Phillip is employed. Poppy, a graduate of McHenry high school, received her ^sheepskin" from the University of Illinois in *58 and has been employed as district advisor for the Girl Scouts, Inc. in the loop. Mr. Nienstedt graduated also from the U. of I. in 1956. An outstanding scholar, Poppy received several scholarships during her student days at the university. We couldn't be happier for Alice and Bud and their engaged daughter. This family has further reason for "crowing" but that appears in another item! During the evening an exciting debate was conducted by Karl "O'Blum," Dave "O'Hansen," and Lil' "O'Ringelstetter," three good Irishmen! Seems they were discussing St. Patrick's birth since he has been claimed by the Irish, Scotch, English, and French. When all has been revealed we might even find that he was really a Scandinavian! Wanna bet? Groceries and liquid Refreshments were served to about eighty people. a social session. All women of the community are cordially invited -- especially those who have just arrived in the village. Large Crowd For Democratic Bally An estimated crowd of about 100 persons attended the Democratic rally at Whitey and Bernice's on Saturday night as Theresa Schultz played hostess. Several office seekers were present. From one who attended we hear the speeches were short and succinct. Ham sandwiches were on the menu and dancing to an orchestra followed. Reported to be a successful party. Bowling Party For St. Patrick's Day Victory was almost theirs-- but again, our local lads bowed in defeat to the mighty bowling teams sponsored by Harry McDade by a mere eighty-six pins. McDonalds' boys tried to break this winning streak Ayhich the city fellows have -been displaying but all was for naught. Even A1 Otto, Sr.'s 648 pins couldn't do the jojb. Next in line were Ray Kuna with 568 and Bill Padgett with SR8 The other local bowlers included Fred Matthesius, Dick Kleinhuizen, Sam B u e n z 1 i, .Ralph Kick, Eddy Wagner, Ed O'Brien, Ray Blake, Bill and Charlie Brennan, Ron Summer, Ron Lockwood, and last and least! Merv Schmitt. Following the tournament in town, fellas and their gals came back to McDonald's for a sumptuous repast of corned beef and all the trimmings. A colorful couple was Do and Muck Brennan who went all out to wearing green. Muck was sporting a lovely emerald shade of hair, and Do - was green complete with that color eyeshadow!! Mighty Young For Grandma And Grandpa! Alice and Bud Cable are singing praises about their first grandchild -- Beth Ann, the wee little daughter of son Robert and the former Arlette May, who were wed on Valentine's Day, 1961. The little lady was born at McHenry hospital March 3 in the morning and tipped the scales at 7 lb., 1 oz. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. May of Johnsburg and paternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Ida Cable of Evergreen Park. Too bad the new li'l miss will be too young to take part in her aunt's wedding party in June, but Poppy has a little sister and small brother who could fill the bill! Time Is Running Out! Very few residents have purchased vehicle stickers and dog tags and the deadline is March 31. Better see Ernma Pyritz today!! A penalty is irhposed for waiting too long. Ladi> s Will Meet Tonight Weather permitting! Members- of the Ladies of the Lake will congregate in the beachhouse at 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday). Two meetings were called because of inclement weather so here's hoping the sun continues to shine! Several pressing matters of business will come before the group and will be followed by Village Board Routine business was conducted at the last meeting of the president and trustees on Monday, March 12. Snow plowing and condition of the roads was the big topic of conversation. The next meeting will be held Monday, March 26, at 8 p.m. and is open to the public. Verbal Orchids For Firemen Three pieces of equipment from the McHenry fire department were in the village last Tuesday and extinguished the flames at the Walter Hojnacki residence almost before the neighbors were aware anything was amiss. Marie was at home at the time when she smelled smoke arid felt the heat from the stove pipes. About three hundred dollars worth of damage was done,, but it could have been so much worse! Prompt action "on the part of Company 1 saved the entire home from going up in flames. We are exceedingly fortunate to have this splendid group handy at a minute's notice! on Sunday when he was visited by Richard Tobin, High Chief Ranger of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mr. Tobin who lives in Chicago took time from a very busy schedule to visit "Dave" and he was honored to welcome his illustrious visitor. The Davidsens' niece, Mrs. Bernice Zimmerman, and her daughter, Linda, of Morton Grove also journeyed out to pay their respects to Marge and Helge. Plaudits For Local Scholar When the dean's honor roll at the Milwaukee School of Engineering was published, Ken Swado's name appeared and don't think mom and dad, Lil and Lee, aren't proud! Ken graduated from McHenry high in 1956 and has been studyirj; electrical engineering in Milwaukee. In addition to being a "brain," Ken is also a very talented musician and has had his own "combo." Surgery for Young Lad Tom Ringelstetter has been absent from his studies at St. Patrick's school since his operation last Saturday. He can boast to his chums about staying in McHenry hospital over night and we hear he was a good patient. His convalesence should be of short duration and he can pick up his three R's where he left off! Cognac, Chicken 'N' Cards Clemencia and Bob Fernandez spread the "welcome mat" for several guests on Sunday. In addition to a delicious fried ohicken and trimmings dinner, hosts and guests sampled some excellent wine, French cognac, and "firewater" known as tequila. While the kiddies amused themselves, the adults played cards. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Epiminio Guajardo and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gonzalez and their small fry -- Teresa and Oscar, Jr. Orchid Occasions Bill Hecht and political aspirant* Jack Schlofner can be greeted with the traditional words today, March 22 . . . Nancy Burg will be 14 tomorrow and Ann "Matthesius also has a birthday on March 24 . .1 . Sylvia Fernandez will have four candles on her cake on the twenty-fifth and Peter Kasper and Alice Gustafson also celebrate this date . . . Beverly, who is the daughter of Carrie of Front Street, McHenry antl A1 Sesko was capped during a candlelight ceremony in the chapel of the hospital recently. A deep vein of coal has beeii found high in the limestone mountains of Montana--one, a product of the forests and swamps, the other, a product of the seas, each on a frigid mountain top.
