Seniors Game Friday Evening Friday, March 30, has been set as the date for the McHenry faculty to play against the seniors in a basketball game in the MCHS gym. As in previous years this should be a real thriller.' This year the faculty has added two new names to their roster. Ralph Scharnau and Gene Brooks, others are Cliff Fulton, J^ck Thomas, Paul Mandli, Dean Hargis, Bill Hutchinson, Don Sea ton and Charles Cuda. The faculty is out for revenge because of the one point loss last year. Members of the seniors team to participate in this annual game are Vern Peterson, Paul Morenz, Harry May, Robert Fletcher, Chuck Miller. Bill De Cicco, Ed Stacknick, all members of this year's varsity. A few others from this class will be added as substitutes. Proceeds from this game are used to purchase equipment for the McHenry athletes. Charlie Brown, who has carried the heavy load for many years, has retii'ed from th*3 presidency and (after some urging I accepted the office of secretary. Louis Swedo, another hard worker through the years, has given up his managerial duties and has been elected president for the coming year. Maynard DeVoss is the new vice-president. Earl Walsh continues as treasurer, and Dick Hester as player representative. Registration date will be April 14 (2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) in the American Legion hall. Cards will be distributed in the schools. The Pony League takes in the entire McHenry Community high school district. Players who failed to turn in their suits at "the end of last season must do so immediately. Parents are urged to see that this is done withou? further delay in order to keep these boys in good standing. The Chain O' Lakes Boat Club auxiliary has completed the plans for the third annual Las Vegas Nites to be held April 28 at 8:30 p.m. at the Wing 'N Fin, Volo. There will be dancing to a live band, buffet supper and games. After the buffet supper there will be an auction of many lovely gifts. The public is invited. Mrs. Ingrid Brown and Mrs. Carol Hill, co-chairman for this event, promise a good time to all who attend. Proceeds from this event will -go toward helping defray the expenses of the improved racing schedule this summer. Charter membership will be open until our next, meeting to be held April 7 at 9 p.m. at the Wing 'N Fin. After this time a small initiation fee will be charged. It takes a heap o' bowl in' each game to make such scores: 224 - 235 - 212. Ted Getner got stronger each game to total 642 pins. He warmed up with 178, hit 223 in the second and 241 in the third game. Harv Jensen's 629 series tops the Majors where most scores are in the upper bracket. The McHenry County Tourney for junior bowlers starts in April. The release reached us after the entry date, but we will print more about it as the event rolls along. Martinec, radioman third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Martinec of 3518 N. Fairview avenue, McHenry, has returned to Norfolk, Va.. while serving aboard the destroyer USS Du Pont, after a seven-month deployment with the Sixth fleet in the Mediterranean. The ship visited Golfo di Palmas, Sardinia; Naples: the islands of Corfu and Rhodes; Athens; Malta; Barcelona; La Spezia, Italy; Psnm^es, Golfe Juan and Toulon, along the French Riviera, and Marseilles. During the deployment, the ship hosted twenty-four officers of the Federal German Navy for a trip from Naples to Malta for a conference, took aboard forty-six members of a Congressional party by highline at-sea transfer, underwent two days' buffeting by winds in excess of 50 knots in the winter's severest storm, arranged and hosted a USO show, in Haly, took pait in NATO Operation Checkmate, and joined two French destroyers for a bilingual week operating at sea, in addition to taking part in normal fleet operations. MEDITERRANEAN -Robert J. Olson, seaman, USN, son of Mrs. Etta L. Becker of Route 9. McHenry, serving aboard the fleet oiler USS Canisteo, operating as a unit of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Since leaving her home port at Norfolk, Va., more than six months ago, the Canisteo has steamed more than 36,000 miles and has: pumped more lhan 38 million gallons of oil, jet fuel and aviation gasoline to approximately 275 ships of the fleet. The 22-year-old soldier en- LOCAL ROTARY TAKES PART IN WORLD OBSERVANCE During their club meetings, some 500,000 Rotarians in 124 countries, frgm Aabenraa, Denmark, to Zarate, Argentina, simultaneously observed World Understanding Week, March 18 to 24. Rotarians have long been dedicated to the advancement of international fellowship of business and professional men. In observance of the week, the local Rotary club wrote letters to the governmental bodies in cities the size of McHenry in other countries, in an attempt to learn more about life in the various parts of the world. Youth To Hold Church Offices The young people of the First Baptist church are looking forward to next week when they will take over the manj^ offices of the church to try their hand in operating {he church program.
