Carey President ATTESTED: Thomas F. Bolger Cashier." (Pub. April 12-19-26, 1962) "Taxpayers Notice: "The election on Saturday, April 14, includes the bond issue for a ^swimming pool to be built on the McHeni-y Community high school grounds. It is of vital importance for all to get cut and vote against this and other projects. At present, the costs are too high, also the taxes. With all the lakes and rivers in the area there are enough Red Cross swimming classes going on during ihe summer months. "Don't lose out by letting a few people vote this bond issue for $270,000. Get out and vote against this real tax raiser. "II is on the ballot as an addition to the McHenry Community high school for the purpose of education, to be known as a natatorium, meaning swimming pool. "Eugene Piotrowski "A Taxpayer" The Eye of the American Spirit "Dear Editor: "This is not a free country any more, and the pity of it is that each generation is being brain-washed, more and more, to the idea that it can be free only to the degree which progress in government and individual living conditions allow. "It is agreed that in the United States, living conditions are better than anywhere else in the world, but is it worth the sacrifice of the freedom for which our forefathers fought to establish a country for free-thinking men and women. The bonds which encumbered thinking men hundreds of years ago are restored, in greater strength of bondage than ever before, only for the sole reason that man is so passively agreeable to that restoration of restriction which is growing more powerful every day. "High wages are the rosecolored glasses through which people are olinded to the true color of undesirable conditions which are growing by leaps and bounds, enslaving them with higher and higher taxes and more and more ways in which to levy them. "Where are the high-minded men, sons of the fathers who declared themselves, generations ago, against such tyram nies as exist today. Are men frightened into aequies^nce to the degree that they are "swilling to become surfs to the beauroerats who are rapidly gaining the power of kings of centuries ago? Are the people so lacking in the ability to think for themselves that they cannot do so? Or, is it that they are so analytically lazy that they have ceased to care, and so take the attitude of, Let the other guy do it? "Having sprung from pioneer stock, my observance of what is surely happening to the freedom of mankind is heartbreaking. Pulling the wool over the .eyes of the public with the smooth declaration of wanting freedom for men all over the world is a fine way to enslave the people of the United States with the extreme taxation and the many extreme ways in which to levy it. "The multi-billions of American dollars which have been spent for that so-called desire for world freedom has gained nothing in that direction of substantial significance for the rest of the world. But, it has involved and encumbered the American family with the enormous debt which can never be paid, for it is continually increasing instead of decreasing. "To lend, is to make an enemy, for as long as the debt remains unpaid, the borrower will surely develop a hatred toward the lender. To borrow, has the same result, for the lender cannot hold in high esteem the one who does not pay his just debts. What will the ultimate result be? The United States will become the most hated country in the world, and it will be the doing of her own hand which will accomplish this most undesirable status. Is that where we are headed? From where I stand. I THINK SO!! "Ruth Gans" GIRL SCOUTS IT PAYS TO ADVF.RTI8E Troop 495 The last meeting was held at J. P. Mathews hall April 3, with a flag ceremony oponing the meeting.
