Around the Highlands Jane Malek suffered a very severe case of laryngitis last week. Wally Sielisch's mother came home from the hospital April 5 after spending nine weeks there. Betty Sandelin is the envy of all the gals. Betty came back from Florida with a gorgeous tan and looks just grand. Betty enjoyed the trip in a Jet plane and enjoyed all that wonderful sunshine. The Joe Hanisches spent April 1 in Chicago visiting Joe's family and relatives. They enjoyed a delicious dinner and a day out. April 1, the Fox Lake Legion Post presented a fashion show. Two of the Highlanders modelled in the event, Dorothy Orlowski and Caria Bales. The two men from the Highlands who were in the style showwere Gene l-Ieir and Richie Orlowski. Cake and coffee were served and the woman from the Highlands who helped serve were Joyce l feir, Caria - Bales and Ruth Rathnow, a former Highlander, who now resides in Ingleside. The Axell family have been forced to move into a motel because they cannot get in to their home. We offer our deepest sympathy to all the folks whose homes are surrounded by water. The auditing committee of the Women's club met at the home of Grace Rein hard t on April 11. Treasurer Diana Murgatrovd. Betty Sandelin. Joyce Heir and Grace spent the evening checking all the treasurer's accounts. Grace served cake and coffee to the girls. Last weekend Gracj* and Forrest Reinhardt spent the weekend in Chicago where they attended a reunion of all their old friends, many whom they had not seen in years. LeRoy and Gert Snell i.re busy preparing foi\ the Easter week. They will spend it in Chicago with their children and hope to stay a week and get in some visiting after being cooped up all winter. Please do not forget to bring your coupons to ihe April meeting of the Woman's Club. That way the president can make ^ complete file on the coupons to be turned over to the new president. Debbie Rosenquist celebrated her seventh birthday on April 14 with her aunts and uncles and on April 12 she had a party with Bobby Schlick. Neighbors who attended the christening of the Wroblewski baby were ihe Ed Thorens. Jack Reillys. Carl Haefligers, Floyd Johnsons, the Kolans and Hank Waldins. Miss Hermann was out for a few days last week. Laura Farwell is home recuperating after having her tonsils and adenoids removed at the McHenry hospital. Happy birthday to Shelly VonBruenchenhein who celebrated her first birthday last weekend. Roy and Gert Snell spent April 3 visiting in Elgin and in Meadowdale. Mr. and Mrs. Pechous, former residents of the Highlands, now living in Florida send their best regards to all. They receive the Plaindealer each week and enjoy reading about their former friends and neighbors. On April 7, the Moreths, Schubles and Lindemanns attended the installation of officers of the Fox River Auxiliary V.F.W. of McHenry at the hall in McHenry. Marge Moreth was installed as treasurer for the second year. Vi Schuble was installed as patriotic instructor and Lorraine Lindemann w a s installed as historian. Last weekend was a busy one for the Janquarts. Jan's sister, Dorothy, flew in from California and this is the first time in ten years that they have seen each other. Jan's mother, Mrs. Schwartz, came in from Milwaukee and they were anxiously waiting at O'Hare Field many hours ahead of time. From O'Hare they had dinner at the Janquarts and then to Milwaukee where the rest of the family was waiting for the happy reunion. Vi Johnson entertained her sister-in-law, Gloria Pechous, and sister, Dorothy Freund, l a s t W e d n e s d a y . N e i g h b o r friend, Harriet te Wilson, was also on hand. Audrey Morin's brother, sister- in-law, niece and Don's folks were out last Saturday. They attended the Fun Fair and had a swell time. Happy birthday tc Jerry Janquart who was five on April 11. Best wishes to Jill Reilly and Trudy Rogde who will be leaving for a six day trip to New Orleans on April 18. They are going with a group of sen-, iors from McHem-y high. On April 15, Jeanne and Renee Janquart will be confirmed at Mount Hope church. Coming from Milwaukee will be Grandparents Schwartz, aunt and uncles. Happy birthday to Terry Oziminski on April 18. Johnny Ray Hensley had a party on April 8 for his sixth birthday. 'Teen Club The members of the 'teen club have donated a panel to the remodelling of the barn and have purchased a portable phonograph out of their funds. I'd Like You to Meet This week iet's visit Elsie and Lester Rosenquist and family. They have been here one year last February and live at 5312 N. Lake street. They moved here from DesPlaines with their two children. Debbie who is 7 and in first grade at Johnsburg school and Alan who will be three in June. Lester is from St. Paul, Minn., and Elsie is from Barrington. They met at a dance in Elgin and will be married 8 years next month. Lester is a machine spinner and likes to fish and putter around the basement. Elsie likes swimming, baking and cooking. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Elsie in person but it has been nice talking to her on the phone and I hope you've enjoyed meeting the Rosenquist family. That's It For another week. This news day sure rolls around fast and many thanks to the "old faithfuls' who keep it coming and to Kay Sielisch who takes the time to type it up as she hears it. AWARD CONTRACT FOR IMPROVEMENT IN FOX RIVER The Illinois Division of Highways has awarded a contract to the Marine Dock & Dredging Co. of Round Lake, for channel improvements in the Fox river, W. "J. Payes Jr., director of the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings has announced. The contract price is $49,800 and the work involves the excavation and dredging and disposal of 60,000 cubic yards of material from a boating channel in the river. Thomas B.
