The next regular meeting will be held May 14 at 8 p.m. Pauline Pries, Reporter UNDER 21 A column for teen-agers By Dan Halligan DEAR DAN: I'm a big boy now -- at least that's what my parents always tell me but I'm only "big" in certain things. I'll be 18 in the spring and along with three of my buddies, I want to hitch-hike to the Seattle World's Fair. They've got the permission of their parents but all I got was a big fat "No." There's nothing dangerous about this because we would always stay in a group and we have enough money saved up. Besides that, we could work along the way. This time next year I'll probably be thinking about joining the Navy and if I'll be old enough for that, I don't see why I'm not old enough to have a little vacation this summer. What's the verdict? -- Left Behind. DEAR LEFT BEHIND: You'll probably have to be a parent before you can understand why your mother and father won't let you start out on a 2,200-mile hitch-hiking excursion. The parents of your friends must have brains. Why aren't they using them like your parents are? DEAR DAN: You're always talking about personal gifts and their 'value so maybe you can tell me what's right in this case. I'm 18 and my girl is graduating from high school the end of this month. Would a $75 wristwatch be allright to give her as a gift? Her parents don't mind, they say. This going steady isn't just something we just started.' We've been going together (steady) since my girl was a freshman and we intend to get married in 1963. So, you see, we're serious. -- Cal. DEAR CAL.: The gift of the watch would probably be okay as long as you have the okay of your girl's, parents. Still, $75 is a lot of loot. y DEAR DAN: Give me one good reason why I shotildn't break up with my steady and I won't. My objections to him are that he's selfish, won't spend more than a dollar on our dates, sometimes stands me up and flirts with other girls. Besides that, I like this other boy better. Do you have a good reason? -- Anxious to know. DEAR ANXIOUS: I don't even have a bad reason. DEAR DAN: My son has naturally curly hair and all the girls at school rave about him but he wants to get a brush cut this summer. He's never had one before and I think it> just the novelty. Would you advise this? -- Proud Mom. DEAR PROUD MOM: Certainly, I would advise a brush cut. If the hair is naturally curly, he can let it grow out again in September for the girls. How Can I ? Q.
