Another houseful this weekend was the Bob and Kay Mitchell residence. Guests were Kay's mother and dad, Mrrand Mrs. Frank Hill, three brothers, Pat, Greg and Dennis, and sister, Charmaine. They all came from Fox Lake Kd enjoye^ dinner together, ter they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hill and Traci from Oak t Park and Janies Hill from Winnetka , with-- fiancee Sheila O'Connor from* Chicago. Also visiting there were her iSster and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Loveless, and three children and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar^ Littchen. The Gerald Biederer family iand the James Wilsons went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Biederer in Prospect Heights. • Mother's Day the Richard «>rmans went to the home of r. and Mrs. William Brudi where there was a big family get-together. Mrs. Kuck proudly tells is that her daughter, Barbara, 11 on the school honor roll this tWne and ever so pleased with herself! * -jSaturday John and Pat fcoughlin attended a wedding and reception in Evergreen park spending the night at her mother's in Chicago. • Joyce Engstrom's mother, Mrs. Klein, came out for a few days last week and the lily drove her back to Chiigo Sunday. There they found Mr. Klein in stitches; well, one jutyway. Most home accidents seem to happen when mother's away! . The Tom Birminghams had a housefull this weekend with guests, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mitchell, Helen Halvty, and Helen's mother, Mrs. Margaret Deasy. Saturday the James Penick family got together with four other couples and their families at a home in the Wildwood subdivision. The Ed Sobacki family went to the home of Jim and Virge Gillette in Duck Lake Woods to celebrate Ed and nephew Chuckie's birthdays together. The Melvin Griffeth family went to Arlington Heights to the home of Louise's sister, Jane Danaher, where little nephew Chris was celebrating his very first birthday. At the usual card party of the Radners, the Wiegmans, and the Hansens, the latter were presented a gift and card on the occasion of their wedding anniversary. Saturday evening Len and Winnie Hansen and Dick and Louise Wiegman drove into ChicagorThey went to the top of the skyscraper and viewed the city at night which was a very beautiful sight with so many lights. Then they enjoyed dinner out in celebration of their anniversary and Mother's Day. John Hayes, Carol, and children went camping over the weekend in New Salem State Park. Bob Kellogg's aunt, Bernice Wickland, in Minnesota, passed away and was laid to rest in Chicago. His other aunt« and uncles came out here for dinner. Peggy Garrelts and Bessie Barnes attended a party at the roller rink Thursday evening. Sunday the Jack Dal tons all went out for dinner. With Mother's Day and two birthdays they had enough cakes to give to the neighbors! Richard and Judy Gorman went out to dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Merlons who were celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary. Birthday Celebrants Young Neal Barry had a big wild party with fifteen children as he celebrated his fifth birthday. Mommy made the cake and they all had a wonderful time playing games and really kicking up their heels! Mike Kellogg celebrated his birthday wilh nine kids in for a hot dog lunch followed by c a k e and i c e c r e a m . They a l l had a good time. In the evening his grandparents name over and also the Len Lawrence family. Mike's cake was decorated wilh cowboys and Indians running rampant all over the icing! Bob Kellogg enjoyed his favorite dinner on his birthday followed by cake for dessert. Pat's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Potter, joined them on this happy occasion with Len and Dolores Lawrence coming over later in the evening. Birthday Wishes Happy birthday May 25 to Mary Thienes, Ramon Charbonnier, Thelma Masshiemer, Robert Welms, and to nineyear- old Paul Dethlefson all on Friday. Saturday, May 28, young Chris Durkin will be seven years old. Have a good time there boy! May 27 will be a big day for 13-year-old Linda Charbonnier, 4-year-old Cynthia Landin, and two-yearold Jeffrey Rad. Walter Kuck will also be celebrating his birthday that Sunday. Best wishes to all. May 28 is the natal day of Florence Noonan, young Eddie Schwabauer, and also the eighth for Douglas Messer. May 29 Norbert Parr ryas shares with 3-year-old Howard t'semaii. Memorial Day' Kathy Penick will celebrate her eighth birthday. Jt isn't every little girl who has a parade on her birthday! Happy birthday everyone! Anniversary Happy wedding anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Haldeman on May 27 with wishes for many more. Sirk List Alfred and Jackie Ritter have the chicken pox this week. Mumps are now visiting the Engstrom family. Bert Stoll has been a very sick gal and is now staying home resting up. Sheri Landin had the mumps and little Cindy is also sick. This week I'll add my little Barbie to this list and hope all the sick children will soon be up, out, and smiling again. * Faith Presbyterian Church May 27, Sunday --The ser-' mon topic will be "Conversion On A Desert Road" based on Acts 8 : 26-40. May 29, Tuesday --The adult choir will meet at 8 p.m. The children's choir is disbanded until fall. Brownies At the last Brownie meeting co-leader Rosemary Newlon laid out a trail and explained to the girls who will be flyingup into Scouting the markings and meaning of the signs and how to follow a trail. The other little Brownies worked with leader Peggy Garrelts on invitations for their parents for the Brownie'party which was held Wednesday, May 23, at the church at 7:30 p.m. Lynn Cary brought the treat. MASSES Betty Hettermann Following all four ^Masses at St. Johh's church next Sunday, May 27, the Blessed Virgin Sodality will hold a bake sale in the school hall. These sales have proved most popular in the past and we all hope this one is also successful. Ladies of the parish are asked to bake an extra quantity so there will be enough goods - to last through the morning. Those interested in buying and enjoying these home baked articles will be happy to learn that bread, cakes, pies, doughnuts, cookies as well as potato salad and baked beans will be available for sale purposed--Why not drop in next Sunday and see what they have to offer. next Brownie get-together will be, a field trip on the second Thursday in June. They plan to have plenty to eat and are looking for care and mothers to lend a hand that day. If you can help get in touch with either Mrs. Garrelts or Mrs. Newlon. \ Bridge Club Bridge Club was hold Wednesday night m the new home of Marilyn Truckenbrod in Mc- Henry. Hannah Harner won first prize and Mary Hadley won the booby prize. Marilyn served shrimp and crabmeat and hot rolls with the coffee. Cub Scouts Den 10 completed their Mother's Day cards and very lovely gifts. Their Father's Day gifts are already completed. The next meeting will be the last and a party. New Arrival!!! Page Seventeen Infant Baptized Brian Ray is the name chosen for the youngest member of the Roberts family when he was baptized at 2 o'clock in St. John's church. Sponsors for the baby were: Mrs. Shirley Lieser and Terry Oeffling. Guests in the Roberts home for supper later in the day were: the Bud Lieser family, Pete Oeffling, Kathleen, Sherry and Terry, the Gordon Roberts family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Michels and the maternal grandfather, George Michels. Girl Scout News Troop 408 held /heir last meeting for the season in the community club hall on May 14. At this time all the mothers were present. Mrs. Thomas explained all the details on day camp to the group. Refreshments were served by Diane OcfflingL The troop joined in learning a Girl Sqout twist song and dance. The Scouts of troop 378 worked real hard at last week's meeting to complete their projects for the "Hawaiian Surprise" which their mothers will attend on May 24. Association to Install Officers Next Monday evening. May 28. the regular monthly meeting of St. John's Home and School association will be held in the school hall. At this time the now officers for the 1962- 63 year will be installed. Members are urged to be on hand for this meeting. Homes on Display Many persons who attended ^ho "Home and Garden Walk" sponsored by the W.S.C.S. of t h * > McHenry c o m m u n i t y Methodist church on Wednesday spent an enjoyable afternoon. We of this vicinity were most proud that the homes of H a r r i e t t e i ' n d Lee M a r s h a l l and Mary and Al. Adams were chosen 1o be shown. Both of those homes face the river on Fairview avenue in King's subdivision. • Birthday Corner Belated wishes to Joe Hettermann who observed his nineteenth birthday on May 21. Words are inadequate at a time like this but to those** bereaved families we do extend our sympathies. . -IS SISTERS RETURN FROM SPAIN FOR VISIT IN AREA Two sisters of Joseph Bassets and Mrs. C. F. McDermott of Tia Juana drive, Lakemoor, are in the area for several weeks. Both sisters, Mary and Helen Baskowvich, have returned from Madrid, Spain, on a two months' leave. It has been about three years since they have been on United States soil. The Baskowvich sisters are both employed by the United States Military Group in ^pain. Helen is interpreter and secretary of the judge advocate office. Prior to her service lil Spain, she spent one year in Germany with the Air Force %Intelli gence. She received an award for outstanding ftnd sustained performance contributing to the mission by the United States Air Force in Spain in her dealings with the Spanish in judicial matters. The girls were met by their family at O'Hare airport and will continue on, after their stay in Lakemoor, to Duiuth, ' Minn., and then to other stops. More (iirl Scout News Troop 295 opened last week's meeting with the flag ceremony followed by the taking attendance and collection of dues. Mesdames Anderson, Patterson and Kobus were in attendance along with twelve girls. The troop made their final preparation for the Mother- Daughter tea. They then readied themselves for a trek to the Johnsburg Public School where they held the presentation of colors and performed a skit for the enjoyment of the P.T.A. members. This was done to show their gratitude for tnl P.T.A. sponsorship. A miss may be as good as a mile but it may still give a pedestrian heart failure.
