Last Friday evening thirty-nine eighth graders received their diplomas at the Johnsburg Public School while Sunday morning, thirtyone students made up the graduating class from St. John's school. Many more of our 'teen-agers were in the large class of 227 that graduated from the McHenry high school this week. Several participated in the Marian Central high school graduation also. Rescue Squad Calls On,June 1 our rescue squad was called to the public school where a student was hit in the head and received quite a gash. She was , taken in the squad ambulance to the McHenry hospital for further treatment. Later the same day a seizure called them to the Oak Park hotel. This past Sunday morning a call took them to Sunnyside and the resident was taken to the hospital. Fire Call The men of station 2 were called to the Wilkenson home recently where a fire started in the bathroom due to faulty wiring. Damage was kept to a minimum. CH1RCH MEETING Gratitude for spiritual growth and progress was the keynote as Christian Scientists from many countries attended the annual meeting of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. SHOP AT HOME MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OUTLINED BY MeHENRY MAN The special needs of children and adolescents were the subject- of a recent speech before the Committee of the Illinois Commission on Children by Stanley Blumberg, administrative director of the Mental Health Center ^ for McHenry Counly, 1514 W. Waukegan road, McHenry. Mr. Blumberg outlined the center's concern with child guidance services to disturbed children and their families. He spoke of the need for psychiatric services to the county court, including investigations iit case of such juvenile offenses as continued truancy, stealing, vandalism, and so on; and outpatient service to such children and their families to insure prompt and thorough rehabilitation of young people in trouble. Most of the types of cases coming to the attention of the court involve children and families with chronic character disorders, and the high case load of juvenile officers makes long-term help for these people difficult to obtain without the help of a vvell^coordinated psychi atric team"working in the community. Mr. Blumberg also expressed concern for aspects of the adoption process, and urged certain legal requirements" for better protection of both children and adoptive parents. He spoke of the need for an expanded foster-home service, and of the lack of available detenlion home facilities for children awaiting disposition by the family court, and of residential treatment facilities for emotionally disturbed children. In addition,Njjis remarks included a discussion of. services t o r e t a r d e d c h i l d r e n , a n d called for expanded psychiatric services to schools. Teachers, he said, are in a primary * position to recognize patients in need of counseling services; or ir,pre extended diagnostic and treatment service. He discussed the role of the Mental' Health Center in the ' community health program and- - pointed out that it is part off" a state program to encourage the establishment of community clinics which are intenaeiT"' to be supported only in part by grants-in-aid from the state and primarily by contributions from the communities they serve.
