Thursday, June 21, 1982 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALEB Sunnyslde Estates GIRL SCOUTS ROUGH IT DURING CAMPOUT IN WIS. Joan Walczynski - 385-3105 Four local Girl Scout troops had the time of their lives for 0three days and two nights this past week, when they had their campout at Chapman Hills, Wis. There were fortysix brave souls participating. Troop 295 had the majority with thirteen in all. Leader, Marge Barth, her niece, Hazel Grens, (who was her right arm, I'm told> ten of the S c o u t s t h e m s e l v e s i n c l u d i n g Mary Anderson, Kathy Earth, ^ Kandy Kpbus, Mindy Long, Carla Martin, Marta Martin. Cheryl Patterson, Cathy Palmer, Sue Roggenbuck and our own Judy Walczynski, plus little Scottie Barth, completed the roll call. Troop 150 was represented by Leader. Alice Bieschke, Betty Lakowske, the six girls who flew up from "Brownies to Scouts this month (more details on this later) ^including ^Kathy Harrington. Karen Hettermann, Li nd a Hosier, Mary Jane Lakowske. Doreen Patterson and Nancy Roggenbuck and Johnnie Lakowske. These gals and boys really .roughed it. Everything was very primitive, the schedule was heavy, the work was hard, .the nights were cold, and the ,£time had by all was GREAT! The itinerary went something like this: Upon arrival there at 11 a.m. Monday they hiked from the parking lot to the camp site. Ate lunch. Assigned tents. Settled. Flag ceremony. Ate supper. Camp fire and song fest. Lights out. COLD and rainy night. Up the next morning at six to gather wood for fire for breakfast. Flag ^ceremony. Cooked and ate breakfast. Spent morning digging bean hole in which to cook supper. Cook and ate lunch. Scavenger hunt hike. Ate supper. Camp fire and stunt night which included a skit or performance by each of the four troops. Popped corn over camp fire during song fest. Lights out. Up early again. Cooked and ate bre-ak- ^fast. Packed up gear and cleaned up camp area. Left (sadly) for home. Transportation was furnished for Troop 295 by Lois A n d e r s o n , M a r i e M a r t i n a n d Stan"" Walczynski on Monday for the trip up and on Wednesday for the trip back home, Marie Martin, Harold Palmer and Roberta Roggenbuck. Roberta went, up on Tuesday ^ night and spent the one night and morning with the troop. It was a lot of work for just ^ the short stay, but I know "'ntildy came home happy and richer for the experience and I'm sure all the other gals did too. and A1 had out-of-town guests recently. Flo and Bill Erikson are, former next door neighbors of the Stephens, and the Eriksons now reside in Jacksonville, Fla. Bill has a- month vacation,, so he and Flo took a trip up to Chicago for a visit" on their way to California. Now, that's what I call a vacation trip. The Ericksons called the Stephens from Chicago and were given instructions on how to get out here. Well, a wrong turn was made and it seems they ended up in Rock'ford first; but having found their error, they continued on and arrived in Fox Lake where they again called. and A1 drove out to meet them and lead them in. (This brings memories. How many times we had to lead in our company!! After the delay the visit was just grand, and no doubt will have no trouble finding the way again. May I add, "Welcome neighbors!" Vacation Kelly Noah just finished his two weeks vacation, during which time he and LaVerne and their brood of four did any number of enjoyable and interesting things. Last Saturday LaVerne and Kelly and Ann and Rich Radtke pooled baby sitters and took in the races at Wilmot, Wis. Outside of almost freezing to death, they had a ball. The four kiddies are taking turns spending a week with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson in Chicago. The only trouble with vacation is that once it's over it seems like forever until the next one. Guest Partying Two of our recent graduates were John and David Senkerik, and they shared the limelight at a party in their honor the following Sunday. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Skidmore, Mr. and Mrs. Richai'd Malsch and family, and Mr. and Mrs. John Ehlert and Mable. all of Ringwood; Mrs. Ronald Creutz of Crystal Lake; Mi's. Fred Bowman and Nancy and Fred of Wonder Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril and daughter, Susan, of Wilmot, Wis.; Joe Senkerik and daughter. Ellen, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ehlert and sons of Kenosha. Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ehieit and Mrs. Millie Rush of Richmond; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fry and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Banker and Dennis, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schvveiger and Nancy Brink of our own subdivision; and we can't overlook mom and dad. Mildred and Tony Senkerik and sister, Kathy. Quite a blowout for two fine young men. Mrs. Polly Lyle of Martin. Tenn., is a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Kimbro. She plans on staying about a week or ten days and is then going on to Toledo, Ohio. They have been friends since they all residedin Nashville. Mr. and Mrs. Kimbro are also expecting Kate and Bert Reese over the weekend. < ' Flying High Jim Stevens sent the Kimbros a letter saying his trip was just fine and they flew 600 miles an hour at 35,000 feet. Where the temperature got down to thirty-eight degrees below zero. Oh, boy! And we think it gets cold here. Belated Troop 150 had their Mother- Daughter luncheon on Satur- $ day afternoon, June 2; but due to the fact that Leader, Alice Bieschke, and I couldn't quite get together for the details, it's a little belated in beine reported. It began with a flag ceremony, followed by the girls introducing themselves and their mothers. The girls then sang their grace in Japanese. the English title of which iS"~i'For Health and Strength." The puncheon consisted of whippen jello and ice cream. open-fac^d_s a n d w i ches and cookies whichv the girls had made, and coffe^ and kool-aid. Alice then presented the six girls wht) were "flying up" to Girl Scouts with their Wings, and year pins. (The same six k • who attended the campout). -Co-leader. Marion Pflug, is -leaving Troop 150, so the girls ^took this opportunity to present her with a gift, a Girl Scout outdoor cookbook. The rest of the girls were then presented with their year pins. Alice then thanked everyone for their help and cooperation during the year. The luncheon was ended with a friendship circle of mothers and daughters with the hand --squeeze and the singing of ^"Girl Scouts Together." While still in the circle the girls decided to teach their moms the Girl Scout Twist. It was quite an affair. Birthday Boy Six-year-old Alan Kennebeck was the man of the hour at a party given by mom and dad. Carol and Bud, to celebrate his sixth birthday. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. R u d o l p h G a m p e r l , R i c h a r d Gainperl, Madeline and Don Gamperl and their two children, Mrs. Ben Kennebeck, Alvina Schumacher, Marilyn and Bob Gamperl and their three children, Rose DeCarlo, Donald Gaylord and his friend, Betty Diedrieh, Joanne and Andy Eichhorn and son, Joanne and Bernie Kennebeck and their six children. Carol served a dinner in the afternoon and a buffet supper in the evening, the highlight of which was the birthday cake, which Carol decorated as a drum. The entire occasion was recorded in horjie movies, and & treasure they'll be a few years hence. More Guests Laura and A1 Holtfodt had guests twice this week. Al's sister. Mrs. Shackelton, and her daughter and family, Henrietta and Bob Cooper, and two of their four children dropped out for a visit from Chicago on Sunday and on Tuesday. Laura's sister and husband, Val and Ben Weich of Chicago, came out. Of course, this makes it company for the Mikkelsens and the Walczynski family as well. Pretty handy having the entire family living so close they "can share the company. Bake Sale The Blessed Virgin Sodality of St. John's church is sponsoring a bake sale on July 1 following all five Masses (which are 7-8-9-10 and 11:30). The proceeds of this bake salet will be given toward furnishing the new classroom tor the coming school year. Happy Occasions Birthday wishes to Carol Wegner on June 22 when she will be five years old; on the twenty-fourth to little miss Jackie Current who will be four years old and to Bob Lakowske; on the twenty-fifth to ten year old Michael Anderson (a fine young man): on the twenty-sixth to our association president, Jerry Olsen; and on the twenty-seventh to little Carol Pinkonsly who will be two years old. Happy birthday, one and all, and many, many more to follow. It's hard Eastwood Manor FOUR GENERATIONS AT CHRISTENING OF MAHONEY BABY Edie Iverson - 885-6338 Four generations were represented as the Houlihan family of Park Ridge brought out grandfather Ed Mahoney for the christening party of John and Pat Coughlin's seventh child. Daniel Edmond, this past weekend. Fifteen adults attended and oodles of little kiddies. Also there from Chicago were godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Olechowski. Graduation Parties Susan Betke was th£ belle of the ball at her-fffaduation party Sunday. Even Mr. Weatherman, came through giving her a - very beautiful day! Thirty people attended including her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eklund from Chicago who stayed out here for several- days. She received many nice gifts and a sum of money. A beautiful graduation cake was served and just loads of good food. After morning Communion the g r a d u ation class had a buffet lunch in the church basement with the parents invited in for coffee ana sweet rolls. The graduates received rosaries. The graduation ceremony took place at 4:15 in the afternoon. Alice Weirich had a lovely c o m b i n a t i o n g r a d u a t i o n a n d to believe that a whole week in June could be without a wedding anniversary, but it's true. Nary a one this week. Signing Off Thanks to a number of calls and notes, the column is more i n t e r e s t i n g ( I t h i n k ) t h i s week. And if the column sounds crazy next week, it will be because of me. Why? Well, Stan is going on days next week and it seems like it's been forever since he worked days, so I'm not at all sure how I'll react. On top of this Judy is leaving for a week's visit with Dolly and Ken Strorig^ of Schaumburg; so with my two right arms gone, I'll probably be a basket-case. But please call me with your news anyhow and I just might surprise you. Baby Paul is back to his old self again and little Stan, Mary and Billy can be quite helpful when they want to. With luck we will no doubt survive the period of adjustment and be back to normal once again (as normal as a three-ring circus can get, that is). Please keep the calls and notes coming in. It's a real pleasure to type the column with your help. That's it until next week, so 'bye now!
