4 'Thursday, June 28, 1962 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Holiday Hills Mock Wedding Features Dance Inez Young A mock wedding put the finishing touches on a very entertaining and enjoyable evening at the Holiday Hills Property Owners dance held Saturday, June 16. The 'Stars' in the production, which was produced and directed by Harold and Elaine Schmitt were as follows: Bride, Earl Stoddard; groom, Vi A b b i n k ; b r i d e ' s f a t h e r , £ Mary Mahon; bridesmaids, Herb Hill and Bill Schmidt; Ushers, Helen Boettcher and Kay Ryan; ring bearer, Earline Mettelka; flower girl, Clarence Young, preacher, Jim Harper. If there had been any Holly- . wood talent scouts at the dance I think he would have signed up the whole act. It was the best entertainment I have viewed in a long time. Orcfucls to Jim Dowhin, "Sr., and his entire committee for a job well done on the dance. A dance requires a great deal of work to make it come off well --and this was welL done in every respect. The committee consisted of: Jim Dowhin, chairman; Diana Gotch, cochairman; Bill Boettcher, Eunice Heise, Bob Luttrell, Bill Mahon, Alice Malzahn and f Mickey Walters.' The committee in turn would like to express their appreciation to Vi Abbink for a job well done on the decorations. Association Meeting The H.H.P.O.A. held their June meeting at the home of Elmer and Earline Mettelka on Monday evening, June 18, at 8 p.m. Current problem ana business discussed were as follows: Weeds!! And we sure have 'em. Something must be done soon so a committee has been appointed to check into the best method of getting rid of them. It was also moved that the purchase of a tractor be investigated. Carnlvar: It was reported that the Island Lake carnival which we participated in last year would this year be held Aug. 8 through and including Aug. 12. As we did last year, we will need many workers --at least seven each nightv-Jimmie Justes volunteered to call for workers so you will probably receive a call in the near future. Judging from the cooperation last year we shouldn't have much trouble --and those who worked last year know it Was fun working beside the satisfaction of doing something to help improve the subdivision. Check the dates on your calendar now so that you'll have some free time to help --if you're already booked, wouldn't your friends have fun at the carnival ? Cub Scout Luau Did you hear the strains of Hawaiian music on a recent Saturday night? That was our Cub Scouts saluting our fiftieth state at their pack-meeting. On June 9, at the Conneli home the program opened with all present singing the Star Spangled Banner and den chief Ray Mettelka carrying the flag. Packmaster Jack Conneli welcomed the parents to their Hawaiian village which the boys had made including a grass hut with thatched roof, an imitation roast pig and leis which the boys wore and then placed on their mothers' necks. Therefollowed a talk and demonstration on mouth to mouth resuscitation by Earl Stoddard. Each family received a pamphlet on the process. Boys receiving awards at the pack meeting were: Danny Baxter, Wolf badge; Ray Baird, Jr., Wolf badge; Tom Ary, Gold and Silvers arrows; Dean Heise, Silver arrow; Roy Dundelius, Bear badge and Gold arrow. Two additional a w a r d s w e r e p r e s e n t e d f r o m the bowling date the boys had recently --to Danny Baxter with high game of 100 and to Joey Foreman for sticking with it with a perfect score of zero. The skits for the evening were based on their theme of Hawaii and included the idol, raft and grass skirts the boys made, plus a display of one of the islands with palm trees, animals, sand and water and entitled 'Aloha'. A sound and color film on wildlife was shown by Chuck Heise. The boys closed the program with the Hawaiian war chant in their grass skirts. Approximately fifty-five attended the luau. Den mothers of the pack are Jean Baird, Marge Conneli and Virginia Lundelius. Scout pins to the registered troop helpers, Mrs. Estes and Mrs. Exline and assistance leader Vi Abbink. A special thank you to two other ladies who gave a good deal "of their time for the girls --Mrs. Walters who helped them with their bowling and Mrs. Justes who helped with handicraft. Teen Party . Linda Abbink celebrated her thirteenth birthday with a double party. Festivities started at 6:30 on Wednesday, June 20, with a friendly game of baseball. Hamburgers grilled outside by 'Chef' Bill Abbink were then served and games and dancing followed for the g r o u p w h i c h i n c l u d e d , J o h n Hale, Jr., Tom Landis, Candy Walters, April Young, Debbie Savarese, Chuck Forthman, Jr., and Madelyn Fini. Linda's sisters, Connie and Judy, and their friends. Penny and Chris Walters and Wendy Young, were there having a party of their own. At 10:30 when most of the guests had gone home, Linda, Candy, Madelyn, Debbie and April had a pajama party. Judging from the drooping eyelids and unusual mail box decorations the next day, it must have been a fun filled but sleepless night.
