The meeting will he started at eight o'clock and is designed for the purpose of congregating all villagers in one spot so as to prepare plans for tlie upkeep and maintenance of the fire-community b u i l d i n g . A l l v i l l a g e r s a r e asked to be present. The cooperation of all the folks hereabouts is necessary for the future of this building. Discussion of a future gas heating syslem in the building took quite a bit of.the allotted time of the meeting and plans for such will be brought before the public, ^at the meeting t f the seventh. This will be an attempt at a civic project to make our village progress. HomeovS-ners as well as any renters are asked to be present for this meeting. Our Police Magistrate. Harry Brady, presented to the board an item prepared by the. Secretary of State, Charles Carpentier, regarding the illegal use of go-carts on the roads in the State of Illinois. In order to operate such a motor vehicle in the state of Illinois, it must be duly licensed by the Secretary, and have its front and tail head lights and other such details on the vehicle. For more information regarding same, residents who do operate these vehicles should contact the Secretary of State in Springfield for literature in order to prevent the use of such as illegal. Contracts have been signed and motor fuel tax work will begin to progress soon. Road work on graveled roads in the village will begin shortly, the roads to be worked on being; Hollywood, Tia Juana, M o r n i n g s i d e , V e n i c e , and the catch basin on Riverside Drive and Elaine Terrace. At least a three foot catch basin will be installed at this corner to correct the water problem at -that intersection. The basin will be hooked up to the large farm tile which runs under that point. An estimated cost of $850. was made for the graveling and catch basin. tion down there. He says, "Hi Friends!-- Greetings from Ola Mexico. It's truly beautiful down here. Best regards to all. Her brother, Ed» Jacobsen of Oregon, made a visit to see her after she had not seen him in forty years. Grand and glorious was the reunion of a devoted brother and sister. Odette tells us that Ed owns & 105 acre orchard and home* there in Oregon. We imagine this must have been a big thrill for all concerned. tion forgotten was? what a "rod" Lakemoor Scouts The Lakemoor Scouts were busy in South Milwaukee on Saturday, July 28, and were in the V. J. Day parade at Woodstock on July 29. They had plans of being at Lake Forest yesterday, Aug. 1, but since the column deadline was last Sunday, I am unable to give a full report on their activities until next week. Bad Fortune We got word last week that John Leland Lomax has been in pretty bad straights lately. He had taken a bad fall last winter and has been in the hospital. He refused home from the hospital on July 21 and is still in bed. His problem was a very bad injury to the vertebrea in the base of the spine. His life in the future will ived a good deal of cheer along with much patience and fortitude on his part. It would be so very nice if his friends around town would drop a line or i\vo or perhaps a get-well cprd. He can use all the cheer he can get. We sure hope you come along alright, John. Tomato-pickin* Thieves Here's one for the books! Mary Schiavone. and Pearl (Jerry) Gannon were joint hobbyists in a lovely little warden for their own use. They both used their brain and braun to develop the tomatoes which they very eagerly awaited ripening. As the blooms turned to fruit and the fruit turned golden in color, nearly ready for harvest, they watched with anticipation for the almighty day when they could enjoy their first freshly picked tomato. That day never arrived. Someone got to the plants while their backs were turned and uprooted all but three tomato plants. On investigation, Mary found her plants strewn all over the neighborhood, almost beyond recognition. Such a rotten trick ought to go punished to the hilt. What kind of a person would it take to destroy a hobby of two fine ladies, both hardworking and useful citizens. These girls really loved the work and the beauty of their garden, and now what? It Is reasonable to assume that this was the work of unattended youth. What has happened to the days of guidance, supervision, and discipline. The word discipline comes from the word disciple. A disciple was a foJlower of Christ for an extreme purpose. Has the new genera- Wins Contest Heard from Diane Kibbe this week at which time she told of her dad's (Phil Kibbe) good fortune recently. Elm St., McHenry, in Accident An auto accident last week made front page coverage for several of our local youths. Corky Foss will be at a loss for a while during which time his pretty red jobber will be in the shop for bump work. Travelling with Cork at the time of the accident was Don Kibbe and Eddie Steadman and another boy and girl who were friends of theirs. In order to avoid a headon collision, Corktook to a ditch and rolled over. Outside of the girl companion receiving stitches in her shoulder, no one was very seriously injured. The young folks were pretty lucky at that. DR. JOHN T. GRAY Optometrist - 1236 N. Green Street Office Phone: 385-0186 Res. Phone: 385-6191 Hours: Daily 9:30 - 5:00 Tues. & Fri.
