August 9,1962- McHenry Shores KAREN LINWALL WINS TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP Patt Petersen - 385-5425 The Linwall household has been pretty excited lately. Karen Linwall, who will be entering college in the fall, has receivcl a very coveted State of Illinois Richer education scholarship. This will entitle her to ftfmr years of paid tuition to ?viy state college. Karen had already choselh Northern Illinois; university at De- Kalb as hev preference and when the scholarship came it was like frosting on the cake. Karen who had been in the upper one sixth of her class had no trouble qualifying for the scholarship. Her special interests ar college, as far as subjects so, will be English and language. Congratulations young lady and much success in the future. in quite <naturally with his profession as a pilot. He makes model airplanes and has some real beauties. Virginia is quite an artist and loves to dabble in paints when she has the time. Right now, though, she says her three hobbies are Doug, Virginia and Gregg. Doug, Sr., also has an interest in photography and plays the piano and organ when one is available. The most spoiled member of the family is Elvis, their miniature Pinscher. Can You Spare a Few Minutes? That's all it will take to do Herb Clauson a big favor. As committeeman, he once again is handling the registration cards in our area. It will be a great help to him if everyone will check first to see if they have received theirs (if they haven't they are to contact Mr. Clauson immediately) and if they have their cards to sign them and turn them in. That's all. Mr. Clauson would appreciate immediate response. Hoiisecleaninsi Early? The Community Methodist church of McHenry is having a rummage sale on Aug. 17-18. Call Louise Winters if you have any donations, she'll be happy to pick them up for you. If you have any large items, there will be a truck around this evening (August 9) to pick them up. Louise's phone number is 385-2897. Camp Out A group of neighborhood boys were in their own private world for a few days last week. They took their bedrolls, tent, food and supplies down to the dike and camped out for a few days. While getting away from parents and little sisters they became Huck Finn. Glenn Carpenter, and Robinson Crusoe for a few hours. The fellow adventurers included Bill Korner, Dick and Mike O'Brien, Glenn Tanner. Ray Oleszewski, Jim Lando and Jim Zvonar. Complaint Department Burning trash is the nature of the first complaint. I'm sure it's just an oversight on the part of some neighbors when they burn their trash at the same time when other neighbors have their wash hanging on the line. Burning in the evening might possibly solve this problem. The second complaint has to do with speeding in the subdivision. Our roads are paved so that a car travelling at a goodly clip can stir up quite a bit of dust. This, as all the wives know, is sure death to just washed windows. To say nothing of the danger involved to any children playing in or near the street. Company's Coming The Rarhages gave a delightful cooktail^ party last week with eighteen guests. The party was given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. D. Nighdig who had just returned from a stay in Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Ramage also had dinner guests last week; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crammer of W. Miami, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bergman of Johnsburg. The Muellers had unexpected company one day last week. The John Bolger family; John, Louise and their three daughters, Sandy, Karen and Louise. They all enjoyed a very nice evening together. Mildred Snively gave a birthday party Sunday night for Jack Schaeffer. Neighbors and friends attended and all had a pleasant time. Irene Middlekauff, Bernice M a c C a l l u m and B e r n i c e ' s houseguest, Mrs. Jack Freeman. went to a bridge luncheon in McHenry last week. Mr. Freeman joined the MacCallums later in the week. They live in San Leander, Calif. The! MacCallums also visited Mrs. | Vlaster Klos of Cicero and | from there all went to see the i Chicago Trade Fair and had a! fine time. i Clare and Irene Mueller also I had an unexpected visit from Irene's brother, John Biete, and his family last week. | See by the mail that everyone in the community has been reminded to make plans for the McHenry Shores club dance on Sept. 29. iven Schopp and Sam Ziemet are planning to have singing waiters at the SSAC cook-out on Sept. 8. Tickets are available from members. The Robert MacCallums of Highland Park had a family cookout for their parents and the rest of the MacCuiium clafi. The Petersens had their youth group over last Sunday for a picnic supper and some baseball. As cold as it was the kids were" also determined to go s\v imming. All had a good lime and the cold water really worked up ravenous appetites. Christening On the twenty-ninth the Vilim family attended a christening ceremony in DesPlaines. The new parents were Dorothys cousin and his wife, Emil and Shirley Fustafsori, and their new daughter is named Cheryl Marie. Dorothy had the nonor of being the Godmother and Arthur Weiss was the Godfather. A large party was given afterward in the Gustafson home. Accidental Fall We were sorry to hear that Johnny Valek sprained a tendon in his wrist while playing. We hope he's feeling better by Meet the Wilsmans This week we visit the Wilsman f a m i l y . V i r g i n i a and Douglas live with their three children in a lovely brick home on the channel, 2911 W. Gregg. Come September they will have been residents of the Shores for three years. Doug is an airline pilot and Virginia is busy all day caring for 5 year old Doug, Jr., 4 year old Virginia, and Gregg who will be three in September. Virginia was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and Doug, in" Milwaukee, Wis. They met while both were employed by a well know airline. Doug was a pilot and Virginia worked as a passenger agent. The Wilsmans have done an amazing job of building thenown home. Doug did all the w i r i n g , p l u m b i n g , c a r p e n t r y work, everything and Virginia says she's quite proud of him. Both of them enjoy many sports and seem to really take to our country atmosphere at the Shores. Doug loves fishing, bowling, golf, water skiing, in fact they both enjoy most of the water sports. Doug has a hobby which fits Birthdays and Anniversaries A very happy birthday today to Butch Hattan who will be four years old. Ken Kingston will be celebrating on the twelfth and Linda Schopp and Mark Kingston each have a birthday on the fourteenth. I believe it's unethical to wish yourself a happy anniversary so I will say it to my husband instead and thank him for 6 happy years together. We will be celebrating on the tenth of this month.
