Members of Ihe Wonder Lake Garden Club and the Ringwood-Wonder Lake Home Bureau and their guests went 1o McCormiek Place as guests of Ihe Don McNeil Breakfast i Club. After the radio show , and lunch ihcy all attended; ihe International Trade Show. j Kvcryone reported a day well ; spent and from the clatter on the bus 'coming home I think they all had a wonderful time. This is only one of a number of trips these clubs sponsor and '<?ach one of them has been a worthwhile trip. j One of the group, Betty Fi- , a la, did not return with the j others but took a bus to New. I had 1 1o hunt for it too but finally found it. It just goes to show j we're creatures of habit. We are all used to looking in a ; certain section for the news ; and last week it was printed , in a different section. I'm I flattered so- many people read the column. The calls were1 coming in all evening asking j what happened. Next time you j can't find it just check thru; the other sections. It'll be there somewhere. They aren't out to win any great honors. They say they're just out to have a lot^ of fun and inexperienced bowlers are welcome. They bowl at Johnsburg on Monday nights at 7:30. They start their season Sept. 10. Anyone interested call Harriet Wilson, 653-7681. 4-H Achievement Night Honors Go To Local <iirls On Monday, July 30, the Ringwood Sunshine1 Girls, Junior Wonder Workers, Wonder Workers, and the Wonder Lake Top Cats held their 4-H Achievement meeting in Ringwood. There were many exhibits the girls proudly displayed. Ronee Sommers gave her speech which she will give at the state fair, and the girls who have been so diligently working on sewing projects had a dress revue. Donna Smelzer, Kathy Ahrens. and Patty and Bobbie Hansen gave their cooking demonstration. Then came those hectic days at the fair. Speaking for the Jxihior Wonder Workers and the Wonder Workers. I can only say our community should be very proud of these energetic young people. Girls in first year sewing who received blue ribbons were Pam Gabel, Debbie1 Sturm, Mary Lee Wight, Connie Abel, Roberta Ahrens and Joyce Young. For second year skirts blue ribbons went to Susan Olsen. Kristine Weisenberger and Sara Wright. The advanced sew-ers who received blue ratings were Bobbie Hansen and Pam Young. Jackie Hansen received a blue ribbon and also received a dress revue pin which means she was one of the twenty-five finalists to be judged to go to state fair. Too bad you didn't make it, Jackie. In foods the girls also did an excellent job. Girls receiving blue ribbons for their snickerdoodles were Mary Lee Wight and Sara Wright. Patty also received the rosette award which is tops for her class. And speaking of "Grand Champions" which is what the rosette award is, Jackie Hansen received a rosette in photography. Pam Young received a blue ribbon in Baby Sitting Exhibit. and Ronee Sommers, Patty and Bobbie Hansen took firsts in flower arranging. Donna Mae Dean and Kristine Weisenberger received 100 ratings for their flower arrangements and are alternates for state fair. Bobbie Hansen is going to state fair as a delegate for foods demonstration. Kathy Ahrens also received a blue ribbon for her demonstration and would also have been a delegate if she hadn't been one for two years in succession. I'd say "Hat's off and three rousing cheers to these girls for a job well done." Standings Pirates and Sox tied for first place winning twelve games and losing three. Cubs won nine and lost six, Qrioles won six, lost nine, Tigers won four, Braves won two, lost thirteen. A play off game some time this week was to be held to determine the winner. He made his first appearance on Sunday, Aug. 12 at the Mc- Henry hospital. Equally happy as Mom and Dad are brother and sister,& LSrry and Karen. Congratulations! Rae and Del Burns are the proud parents of a baby boy born Aug. 6 at the Harvard hospital. Delbert John the third weighed in at 10 lbs. 3 oz. and was 21 inches long. Eagerly waiting his arrival at home were brothers, Billy, who is eight and Larry, who is six, and sisters, Sharon, who is four, and Terrie, who is two. Rae's mother, Mrs. Bergen, has come from Chicago to give her a helping hand. Sorry we missed your birthdays. Birthday Doings There was a double birthday celebration at the Stoltz home last Saturday evening. It war for Kieth Stoltz' fifth birthday and the following day Aug. 12 was his brother Todd's second birthday. Mom Stoltz had in* vited the Scheadels over for supper and afterwards there was a huge cake for them both. On Aug. 2 a sweet Sixteen surprise party was given for Elaine Pi&secki at the com* munity house. Present at' this party was Mr. and Mrs. A. It was given by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Marjr Williams: She" received" many lovely gift& .Attends Dinner and Show The Legion of the Moose members attended a wonderful steak dinner and show held in a well known restaurant in Marengo last Sunday, Aug. 12. Those attending from Lakeland Park were the Bpttaris, the LaCastros, Bujaks, the Shabows and the H^ggelands. They all report they had a terrific time. Beach Picnic "*• Jan Kozy, Toots Gerstad, Shirley George; Marilyn Bohl. Barbara Meurer and all of their children participated in a beach pichic at McCullom Lake beach last Tuesday. Each summer the Mary and Sarah Circle of the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church get together with their children for a beach picnic. When a count was taken there was fifteen mothers and forty-three children the youngest being 10 months and the oldest 11 or 12. - Everyone had a very lovely time... Vacationing Jack and Petey Oakford and their two boys just returned from a three week visit to Seattle, Wash., where they stayed at the home of Jack's brother, Bob, and his wife, Evelyn Oakford. While they were there they made a tour of the fair three different times which Petey said was wonderful. They also took a ride up Mt. Rainier where the kids made" sirowtjatts- while wearingshorts and they took a boat trip also. All in all it sounded like they had a marvelous time. Ken and Marion Hulbert and their two children went on a camping trip last weekend up north through Wisconsin up to Northern Michigan, to Marquette on Lake Superior. On their last trip they got interested in rocks so this trip they spent a lot of their time going through various mines picking up rocks. From the sound of things I would say we have a couple of "Rock Hounds" in our midst. Cathy Humann spent last weekend with grandma Humann in Chicago. Linda Lord of Pistakee Hills is spending some time with her aunt and uncle, Jim. and Bev Wickenkamp, while her mom is in the McHenry hospital with her new baby sister. Walter and Inge Pissowotski had a glorious time last week in Detroit where they spent a whofle week visiting and sightseeing. Joy Grizely is vacationing in Chicago at her grandmother's Mrs. Mester home. Pattie Lawrence of Oak Park was visiting the Flannigans for a few days last week. On Friday her mom and dad came to pick her up along with her brothers, Billy, Robbie, and sister, Janet, and grandpa Flannigan. They had a grand time picnicking and swimming at the beach. DR. The heavens smiled on us Saturday, Aug. 4 and perfect weather drew a crowd of over 200 for the annual picnic. Games and prizes were enjoyed by the younger set. Some of the prize "takerhomers" were Tony Popelka Sylvia Johnson and Mort Wood- Ward. Sylvia Johnson turned out to be the champion "bean ! guesser." She guessed 2560 and the right number was 25T4. That's pretty close guessing. At 5 o'clock everyone lined , up at the food tables and ate ! and ate and ate and ate. i In the evening there was | dancing to recorded music and ! Patty Misiak was "twister" of the evening. Wonder Woods is saying farewell to Ken and Alice Grothmann and family. They are moving to Milwaukee where he is in the photography business. Aug. 5 was the anniversary of Ben and Jo Pryor. They celebrated the day visiting in Skokie with their daughter and family. Injured In Fall Margaret Kellner was injured in a bad fall at the home of a friend in Marengo last week. She accidentally opened the wrong door in the house and fell down the basement steps. She was taken to the Belvidere hospital where she was treated for several broken ribs and bruises.
