Cause of death was believed to be drowning. The Monteleones were residents of Wonder Lake for quite a few years before moving to Orlando about 7 years ago. At the time of the accident he was tarveling in a convertible belonging to his son-inlaw, Dick Joosten, also an ex- Wonder Laker. He was on the Sunshine Highway between Ft. School Board Public Meeting Sept. 4 is the date set by the Wonder Lake Harrison school board for the public hearing of the 1962-63 sehool district budget, set for 7 p.m., followed by the regular public board meeting at 8 p.m. The August meeting was chaired by Dr. Raymond H. Watkins, former board president, in the vacation absence of Dr. S. L. Ruggero. Criticism of news reports written by J. L. Bixby, denial of a bus routing request of T. P. Mathews, and protracted discussion of bus schedules consumed much of the August meeting. Dr. Watkins ^ opened the meeting, commenting that either the board minutes of July 10 and 31, or the Aug. 2 news release covering those meetings were in error. He made a motion (passed) that the minutes be accepted as presented. He cited seven points in the article that he claimed were wrong. > Mr. Bixby, who serves as a reporter in the public interest, asked that the record show he refuted Watkins* allegations, noting that Watkins was absent from the July 10 meeting -- target for most of his copy objections -- and that the official minutes are not word-for-word transcripts and do not include many of full discussion. The project of the proposed drainage of land behind the school is held up pending receipt of legal opinion raised on a point in question. Move To Meadowdale Wonder Lake's population dropped by ten last Sunday when George and Betty Burns, their seven sons and one daughter left the lake after living here for 14 years. They have moved into a new home in Meadowdale near where George works and Betty says "Now, maybe he'll get home for dinner, now and then." Lots of luck to the Burns family and don't forget to come back to visit us. Kiwanis News Lenny Freund reported on the trip to the ball game in Milwaukee. Six members enjoyed the outing, only to see the Cubs get beaten by the Braves. Last Saturday night was the night of the Kiwanis annual bowling banquet and mixed doubles competition in Mc- Henry. There will be no Kiwanis meeting on Labor Day. Mel Ingeson, a Woodstock Kiwanian and leader of the Scout Council in this area, spoke briefly about the three scouting programs sponsored in this area. He explained how the Kiwanis started to support the local Sea Explorer Ship, which, when first organized, was not registered in this area. Program of the evening was supplied by Bill Dumalski, Mc- Henry Kiwanian, and owner of the local travel service. The program was a travel film on Tahiti. Next week's program will be Sick List The following were patients at McHenry, Woodstock and Harvard hospitals this past week: Mrs. Irene Faxel, Mrs. Axel Raedel, LeRoy McCall, Thomas Phillips, Baby Allen Berg and Mrs. Otto Kersten. Keep that news coming, folks -- 'taint easy to make up news. I can only write what you tell me. If you don't give me news I'll have to express my opinion on things and who cares about my opinions? Christ The King: Church News Oh Sunday, Aug. 5, Father Vanderpool baptized Michael James Simon, son of Steve and Wilma Burns Simon. Godparents were Jack and Ann Grizely. On Sunday, Aug. 12, Father Vanderpool baptized Mary Beth Noble, daughter of John and Catherine McCarthy Noble. Godparents were Keith and Kathleen Noble. School Days Begin Aug. 27 That's the day when the beginners find out it's a big world out there and mothers' hearts suffer a pang or two as they think "He (she) is so little to be starting out -- and they look so lost." Second graders swagger about with an air of assurance -- they were "babies" last year but this year they're old experienced hands at the game. And so it goes on up thru the grades -- each one feeling condescending and a little superior to the ones in the grade they left last year. When I went to grammer school (eons ago) our main concern in seventh and eighth grade on opening day was who were we going to sit near. How about it kids? Does it still make a difference? School starting also means summer is over and slowly autumn will make itself known with cool evenings and gradual color changes in nature's trees and shrubs.
