Page Eighteen^ THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, August 23, 1962#I Eastwood Manor FULTZ FAMILY ENJOYS CAMPING TRIP TO SEATTLE Edie Iverson - 88|t-63S8 Jack and Marilyn Fultz and sons, Greg and Jim, just returned from their vacation. They went on a camping trip all the way to. the World's Fair in Seattle, Wash. The spent four nights and three days in Seattle, two of the days were spent at the fair where they saw the space needle and all the main exhibits. The rest of the time they used to see Seatile, taking in the docks, etc. Other points of interest enroute were Yellowstone Park where they fed lemon drops to the bears; the Black Hills where at one point you can look out and see foiir states, also chere they saw Mt. Rushmore and the biggest gold mine in the country; they went' swimming in Hot Springs in t h e b i g g e s t n a t u r a l w a r m water pool which is 200 x 50 ft. Another highlight of the trip was seeing the Grand Coulee •Dam. They really enjoyed camping out and the boys pitched right in and helped •complaining only a little over ^Ihe food; especially the toast! ~They all had a good time, saw Kci lot, and say it's good to get Ihome! * More Vacationers ~ The Walter Kuck family has. "*been enjoying their vacatiott- Ijriaking several short trips. -•They went to Pell Lake for a ^few days of swimming; spent -another day at O'Hare Field, "and visited EleSflor's folks, Mr. ."and Mis. Weyide, in Chicago. -•One afternoon -was spent at the ^Musetim of Science and Industry; afterwards they visited in '"the home of Johnny and Nov- :)na Rucker. Also on the vacation agenda was a trip to Du- ^buque, Iowa, where they went -through Crystal Cave which was just beautiful and called * for the wearing of winter jackets inside. Han- -nah spent nursing a sore-throat 7 While " Bill took care of the *. house and children. Birthday Celebrations Aug. 5 Barbara Kuck had a birthday party with many relatives attending. I - understand four of them all had birthdays at the same time so all four wished off of the one cake! Some of the guests were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Weyde from Chicago, Art and Mickey and baby son, Grandpa Kuck and Uncle Bill Kuck of Wonder Lake. They all enjoyed a big outside barbecue. Tom Lawrence has been vl^ iting his aunt, Joan Locascio, in Chicago so on his birthday his mother took him and his sister and cousins to an amusement park for the day. Birthday dinner was served in his aunt's home followed by another day of celebrating out here on Sunday with twelve guests enjoying a cook-out and many outside activities such as croquet, baseball, etc. He received many nice gifts. Mel and Kay Stephenson and Am and El Koerper flew to Milwaukee for dinner on the occasion of Mel's birthday arriving home after dark. The trip and dinner was greatly enjoyed by both couples. Little David Dalton had just a family party on his birthday enjoying the cup cakes and his new little red wagon. Birthday Wishes Happy birthday Saturday, Aug. 25, to newcomer Laurel Slack who will be celebrating her tenth birthday. Sunday, Aug. 26, Jon Meyer will be blowing out six candles. Dick Gruhn shares Aug. 27 with 6- year old Barbara Krebs. Aug. 28 little Judy Ryan will be enjoying her second birthday. Best wishes for a big day go to Timothy Tucker who will become 4 on Aug. 29 sharing this date with . Pam Radner who will be a cute little miss of 7. Wishing a very happy birthday to all. they made immediate friends with everyone they met while here. Baptism Sunday infant Jeffrey Allen Cisewski was baptised in St. Paul's Episcopal church - by Father Eldridge. Godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Balfany. Guests at the 1 o'clock big ham dinner in the Cisewski home were the Belfanys with their children, James and Judy, from Beloit, Wis., baby's grandfather, Conrad Mason, and Father Eldridge. Presbyterian Church News Sunday, Aug. 26, we will celebrate the Festival of Christ the King with the sermon entitled "On Him God Has Set His Seal" taken from John 6:25-34. Anniversary > One wedding anniversary this week and it's our very best wishes for a happy day for Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ritter in Aug. 26. Here and There The Ryan family enjoyed a 2-week visit from Jerry's mother,. Mrs. Martha Schmidt of Arlington Heights. Lois and the girls enjoyed shopping, luncheon dates, bumming and visiting in general with grandma. The two weeks ended with a dinner for Jerry's folks, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ryan of Arlington Heights, who were vacationing in Florida. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ryan of Melrose Park, Mrs. Martha Schmidt and the Jerry Ryan family went picnicking at Brookfield Zoo, then to the Robert Ryans for pizza supper. Tuesday, Lois, Debra, Brenda and Judy attended a birthday luncheon in honor of Lois' cousin, William L. Selk, at the R. C. Selk home in Morton Grove. It was a double celebration because Bill just returned home from his hitch in the army. Pat Cisewski's dad, Conrad Mason, came out Thursday and the whole family enjoyed a big steak outdoor barbecue dinner. Alice McNamara from Oak Park has been visiting in the Jack Dalton home this past week. While there they all came down with the flu. Several of our boys attended the junior police annual picnic. The names I managed to get were Jackie and Michael Dalton, Michael Rogers, Mark Thiennes and Richard Gruhn. Sunday guests at the Harry Durkin home were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Friess and sons from New Baden, 111., and Mr. and Mrs. George Morgan from Park Ridge. The Matt Mersch family went into Chicago Sunday to attend a going-away party on his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Lorenzi and little Marylynn, at the home of his parents. Friday the Borcovans went to St. Louis and Sunday they attended the State Fair in Springfield where Elmer served as a color guard. While there Pat and the children enjoyed watching the 4-H kids in a milking contest and also watching the greased^ pig chase. Some of our Manorites attended the VFW big steak dinner Tuesday enjoying preparing their own steaks and cornon- the-cob. Attending v/ere Don and Pat Cisewski, El and Pat Borcovan and Ed and Mary Vestgard. Ed and Alberta Sobacki and family drove to Coleman, Wis., Friday night to visit Ed's brother, Raymond Sobacki, and family on a farm. They returned Monday morning leaving Mike and Jimmy behind for a week of visiting and farm chores. Saturday guests in the Robert Mitchell home were Jorgen and Elsa Larsen and little son, Kim, from Niles. They all enjoyed a back yard barbecue. Sunday Bob and Kay Mitchell enjoyed a family reunion picnic with about twenty-five friends and relatives in Big Foot State Park. They had two picnic tables loaded With food and all had a marvelous time. Many a gal breaks her date by keeping it New Home Frank and Carole Priller and sweet infant daughter, Christine, moved from the Manor this past week into their brand new home in North Hills near Mundelein. Their neighbors sure will miss them but we all wish them the best of luck in their own home. The Lions team beat the Braves two out of three games to win the championship of the Island Lake little league. The winning pitchers were Charles Forthman of Holiday Hills and Bill McDonald of Island Lake. In addition to the pitcher, other members of the team from Holiday Hills are Joseph Luna, John Connell, Mike Krueger, Manager Carl Forthman, Coach Jack Connell and bat boy Billy Frothman. Another claim to fame for our young people!! Congratulations f>oys!! And Dads t6o. Population Increase The stork delivered one of each on Aug. 15. On Wednesday morning a baby boy was delivered to Virginia and Henry Mroz. Gregory Girard weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz., to delight two brothers and a sister. Roger, aged 5, Nancy, aged 4, and Micheal, 1 year old. Later, on the same day the stork delivered a baby girl to Elaine and Harold Schmitt. Mary Beth who weighed 6 lbs. at birth is the first daughter at the Schmitt house. But they have two sons, Brad and Mark. Bonnie Wemken Is 1 Year Old Bonnie, wnose birthday was on Aug. 1, celebrated with an outdoor barbecue ror fiftythree guests who gathered at the Wemken home to help her celebrate. Among her guests were her Godfather Jack Drady and! many relatives, neighbors an«[ friends. A Party For Laurie Laurie Jungwirth celebrated her seventh birthday on Aug. 10 with a party, complete with ice cream, cake, 3oda, games and prizes. Her many friends who helped her celebrate were: Linda Catanzaro, Carol Garbin, Laura Gotch, Debby and Billy Manow, Phillip Nottoli, Terry Sanchez, Diane Weiss and Laurie's big brother, Art, Jr., who helped make the party a success. Speaking of Arthur, Jr., a belated greeting to Art who celebrated his sixteenth birthday while at Camp Ldwden on July 26. Neighborly Notes Right after the Woman's Club Luau on Aug. 8 Bernice Malstrom received a very pleasant surprise in the form of a phone call from her son, Dick, Jr., who was in Lake Geneva with his wife, Lynn, and two daughters waiting to be picked up for a four day visit. John Connell recently returned from a 10 day vacation with his grandma Schweik and uncle Harold in Sheboygan, Wis. They rented a cottage right on Lake Michigan and John had a very good time. Eunice and Chuck Heise and Midge and Don Teuber spent a weekend "away from it all" recently by going up to Eunice's folks cottage at Sagatuck, Mich. I understand they climbed Mt. Baldy while they were there -- and slid all the way down. Sunday, Aug. 12, was the date of the annual picnic of the Sew and So's- ac my home. Approximately forty-five people attended. Among the local families there were the Bud Streets of Wonder Lake, the Pete Witzmans of Wauconda and the Larry Olsens from Cary. The rest of the "crew" were from the Western suburbs of Chicago. We Youngs and the Abbinks have been vacationing the past week visiting various places in the Chicago area. HIGHWAY USE TAX The Internal Revenue Service has reminded owners of trucks and buses that the federal highway use tax is due on Aug. 31. Revenues -collected go into a highway trust fund, created by Congress, to help finance the government's interstate highway building program. LOCAL SCOUTS ATTEND NATIONAL EXPLORER MEETING Eight Explorers and two leaders will represent the Blackhawk Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, at the first National Explorer Delegate conference to be held Aug. 26 to 30 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich. The local delegates include James Davies from Post 672 of Harvard, Illinois, sponsored by c the Knights of Columbus. The eight young men were elected by district Explorer cabinets as delegates to the national conference and will join 3,500 other delegates from ove^ 500 Scout councils. ACCIDENTAL POISONING An alarming increase in cases of accidental poisoning among children has been reported, Dr. Franklin. D. Yoder, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, announced. "Reported cases in the state for the first sitt months of this year total 4,48? as compared with 3,263 cases reported in the same period in 1961," he said. "Estimates based on" the reporting hospitals would add at least 4,000 more cases treated in other hospitals in the state. An appalling number of youngsters appear to be victims of adult carelessness." Cases of accidental poisoning are reported by the 78 poison control centers in the state and by about 80 other hospitals that are not offficial centers. There are 300 hospitals in Illinois.
