Thursday, August 23* 1962 Tlfe McHENRY PLAINDEALEB Sunnyside Estates Wegner Family Enjoys Trip Joan Walczynsk! 885-3105 A lovely trip was made re- , cently by the entire Wegner family of Indian Ridge Drive. Their first stop was Galena, where they enjoyed the beau- * tiful scenery as well as a visit to Grant's home. From there they went to Dubuque, Iowa, where they visited Eagle Point State Park. This park is on the Mississippi river at a location Y^vhere a dam is and when standing on /the locks at one point you can see all three states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. The Wegner family spent the night at Dubuque, and the next morning continued on their journey to Savanna, where they visited the Mississippi "Palisades. This is cwhere they have Original Indian trails preserved. Helen, v#£eith and the three children, Steve, Carol and Kathy, went hiking over them, but just so far 'cause it is possible to get lost. Next stop was Oregon, to visit White Pine Forest state park as well as White Pine Deer Park and Storybook Land. This was naturally enjoyed most by the children, since they could feed the animals. From there they went ^on to Lowden State Park where the Blackhawk Monument is. This is along the Rock River and Helen tells me that the entire drive along the river was breathtaking. - church sponsored a vacation bible school for the past two weeks. The theme was "Let's Learn About God" and each day there was a different project on the agenda; for example, they made a prayer lamp shade, a milk carton bird feeder, a religious mobile, and a hanging planter. The last day of bible school, which was Aug. 17, there was a closing program held at 8 p.m. in which all the children participated and displayed their handiwork. Splash Swimming lessons are all the rage this summer it seems. A few weeks back Mick and Rick Mikkelsen and Loreli and Ted Jost took the two weeks course at Antioch. For these past two weeks Mary and Mike Anderson, Kelly Bute and Mark, Neil and Bill Davis have been taking lessons in Antioch and for the past three weeks Mary Jane and Johnny Lakowske have been taking them at Crystal Lake. Guess I better get myself in gear and see to it that our little "rocks" learn to float next year. Partying Millie and George Kroof were feted at a dinner last Friday evening, Aug. 10, in honor of their twenty-seventh wed- '^fiing anniversary. Guests included their two sons, Ray and George, Jr.; Millie's folks, Mae and Mike Becvar, Mill's sister, Vi Crane, and Stan and me. We all had a lovely time, the dinner was delicious and to top it off, Mill and George were presented with a bottle of champagne. Following the dinner we returned to the Kropf home where we were joined by Vi's brother-in-law, Ken Crane, and the remainder of the evening was spent just having a good time, plus ieati n g a n n i v e r s a r y c a k e a n d drinking coffee. Out-of-town, Guests . The Anderson family or Grandview drive were happy to have Herb's mother and step-dad, Mr. and Mrs. Gene 0Roy of Florida, for a month's vacation recently. Needless to say, everyone had a real grand time. The Roys used to live hereabouts, so they did much Jn the way of returning visits to all their former neighbors and all the folks who have since dropped in on them in Florida. House Guest $ Laura and A1 Holtfodt had their dear friend, Marie Kuehlman, staying with them this past week. Marie resides in Chicago, but does a lot of traveling and visiting. Mother (Laura) was mighty happy to have the company for as long as Marie stayed and is lonesome already. Laura's sister rnd husband, Val and Ben VVeich, of Chicago also dropped ©n for a visit last week. Bible School Mount Hope Methodist Our Sympathy To June and Ted Voight on the death of her uncle, James McDonald; a young man of 48 years who passed away very suddenly from a heart attack, leaving a wife and a fourteen year old son. When the Voight family went into the city fot the funeral, Diane Voight stayed on with Grandma and Grandpa Price for a vacation, and she wasn't the least bit a n x i o u s t o r e t u r n h o m e . There's no place quite like Grandma and Grandpa's for really living it up, is there? Boulevard lost their cat to the wheels of a car a week ago. This was a treasured pet to them, and should be another example of what can happen when we don't obey our speed limits. Vacationers The Mikkelsen family (Loretta, Bob, Mick and Rick) and the Jost family (LaVerne, Joe, Loreli and Ted) spent a week's vacation at a cottage in Park Falls, Wis., on Butternut Lake. Sorry to report that the fishing was awful and it was too cold to swim, so the kids had a disappointing time. At the end of the week, the Josts returned home and the Mikkelsens continued on to Montello, Wis., where they spent a few days with Grandma and Grandpa Mikkelsen. Then back home to catch up on some work around the house. C-r-a-c-k Did you ever fall out of a tree? Well, Johnny Lakowske did, and he's got his right arm in a cast to prove it. Poor fella broke it in two places, no less. His mother, Betty, says he came through it just fine, and did his folks proud with the way he was able to grit his teeth through the rough part. He'll be sporting the cast for about six weeks, and what a way to start school. Our Sympathy To Helen and Keith Wegner this time, on the death of Helen's paternal grandmother Bertha Bocinsky. She was 85 years young and had a bad heart. She took a fall and broke her hip and it seems that complications set in and she just didn't have the strength left to fight it off. Lisle, 111. was her home and as of this writing funeral arrangements had not been made. Sick List Diane Noah is mighty sick with tonsillitis and little Tammy Bieschke is a real sick little girl, too. It's heck to be so sick in this beautiful weather. Johnsbnrg PTA If you haven't already purchased all the school supplies you need, why not hold off until school starts. The P.T.A. of Johnsburg public school is sponsoring a school supply sale the first two days of scHI&l and every six weeks thereafter they will hold a one-day sale to replenish your child's supply. Found One Brownie Leader for Troop 150. Mrs.' Irene Seliga of Pistakee Terrace has consented to give of her time and energy to help keep this troop going. Now, they still need one more leader and some seven and eight year old girls to complete the troop. Anyone interested may call Alice Bieschke at 385-6166. Oops! Sorry Dept. SEPT. 2 Betty Hettermano Just a word or two to serve as a reminder about the forthcoming bake sale to be sponsored by the Blessed Virgin Sodality on Sept. 2. Anyone who has participated in enjoying any of the home baked articles sold at these sales will want to come back again for this sale. Of course we can't just have buyers, we need the bakers badly. So all ladies of the parish are asked to make extra large quantities of their favorite recipes for either cakes or pies as well as bread, biscuits, cookies, potato salad or baked beans. The sale will be held in the school hall > following all the Masses as well. Choral Club Visitors The 10 o'clock Mass at St. John's church will be enhanced by the presence of the Men's Choral Club of Chicago next Sunday, Aug. 26. As in the past these men will blend their voices to make this church participation even more beautiful. Plan to. attend this Mass next Sunday and hear this group on their annual visit. Rescue Squad Calls Members of our rescue squad were called out quite frequently these past wee<s. One of the calls took them to Snug Harbor where a woman suffered respiratory difficulty and wa» taken to the hospital in the sqtfad ambulance. Last week a resident of River Terrace Drive suffered a possible heart attack. She was transferred to a Chicago hospital by ambulance. In the early evening 'hours of last Friday a near drowning in Huemann's subdivision called for the squads assistance. The victim was also taken by the squad ambulance to the McHenry hospital. Sunday evening an auto accident on Route 31 at the bridge near the Blake farm claimed one life and hospitalized two others. The car side-swiped the bridge and injured the occupants. The persons were taken by ambulances to the hospital. though I wouldn't have much of a column, but then on Thursday the calls started pouring in, so you see, without you, I'd be nothing. Keep up the good work. It's so very easy to write up the news once I get it phoned in to me. I would like to add that I had a lovely birthday. Stan and the children saw to it that I received gifts and cards, as did our dear neighbors, the Kropts, and since everyone knows how much I love flowers, especially roses, almost every card had roses on them. Mind you, I received a total of three dozen plus one roses (on the cards, that is). And I thoroughly enjoyed the greetings extended to me by all who called with news. Guess that's it for this week. Their annual dance comes up on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the community/club hall. You can do your small part by purchasing a ticket or two as a donation. Before you purchase that ticket stop and think how often you hear that siren and how often those fellows drop whatever they are doing, day or night to answer. Why not get a group together and have fun at the dance as well as giving a helping hand to a very worthwhile project. Birthday Corner Young Doris Ann Tomasello entertained a little differently than usual on Aug. 13 in honor of her sixth birthday. Her mother treated a group to an afternoon at amusement center where the youngsters enjoyed just about everything in the way of amusement. Joining in on the fun were: Mrs. Gerry Hiller, Carol Jean and Mary Jo, Mrs. Dorothy Adams, Kathy and Linda. Mrs. Laverne Jost, Teddy and Lorelei, and of course, Pat Tomasello and her family, Vincent, Marie, Sally and Doris Ann and last but not least Joan Birch of Wonder Lake.
