Thursday, August 30, 1962 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Sunnyside Estate* LIST IMPORTANT FUTUflE DATES TO REMEMBER Joan Walczynski 385-8105 ^ We have three important dates to remind you about this week. The first one is Saturday,. Sept. 1, when the Johnsburg rescue squad holds its annual dance. You all know what a great job they're doing, so all I'll add is that I hope you all purchase tickets and attend the dance, if possible. The second date is Sunday, Sept. 2, when the Blessed Vir- ^ gin Sodality of St. John's church holds a bake sale after all the Masses in the school hall. Donate what you can in the way of baked goods' and salads, etc. and then "you all come" after Mass on Sunday and find a little something to buy to add to your Sunday dinner. And third is the Cystie f^bjg rosis fund drive which is to be ' held next week. LaVerne Moah has offered to be our local chairman for the drive. Some neighbor will be contacting you for a donation as money for care and research is the only help and hope of over 25,000 children now suffering with this chronic disease. Page Nineteen John, of Kenosha, Wis.; MiHie Rush and Ruseell and Beraice Ehlert of Richmond; Hazel Bowman and daughter, Nancy, of Wonder Lake; Lyle Ehlert, Herman Ehlert, Flavia Ehlert, Elsie and Cyril Pacey, Tekla and Leland Pacey and family, all of Wilmot; Mabel Ehlert and Dolly Malsch of Ringwood; Ron and Jackie Creutz of Lakeland Park. Needless to j-ay, they had a houseful, but I'm sure that in this instance it was definitely, the more the merrier. Wedding Bells The date was Saturday, Aug. 18, when the Lakowske family hopped in their car and made the trip to Milwaukee, Wis., for the wedding of Betty's brother. Larry Golka, and his intended, Agnes Walton, at St. Wenceslaus church. It was a beautiful ceremony held at an eleven o'clock nuptial Mass. There was a reception from one to six that afternoon at the Knotty Pine Hall where a turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings was served at two o'clock followed by dancing. Betty, Bob, Mary Jane and Johnny had a good time and the newlyweds started 1heir married life off with a lovely day. Happy Wanderer That's the nickname we'H % have to give Marge DeFrancisco. She and Pam were off for another "vacation". This time to New Aygo, Mich., with her sister and husband, Sarah and Frank Ellinger, where they have a summer home. They spent almost three weeks enjoying a number of things. Spent one day at a children's camp, Camp Douglas Smith in Ludington, Mich., where" the £ Ellingers' son was a water front director. Another day they went through a baby food p l a n t i n F r e e m o n t , M i c h . , which they thoroughly enjoyed. And still another day. at the 4-H Country Fair in Ravenna, Mich., where they viewed all the achievements of the 4-H'ers that were on display. The rest of the time they spent hiking around the countryside $ enjoying all its beauty, etc. Farewell If nothing goes haywire with his reservations, Alice and Ray Bieschke's nephew, Butchie Bieschke, will be returning home to Tuscon, Ariz., where it's time to start getting ready for the trip back to school. He had spent over five weeks with Alice and Ray and Tammy, but I'll bet he'll-be glad to be home again. Happy landings, Butch! Surprise Party The home of Mildred and Tony Senkerik on Mayfair drive was the scene of a party given for her father, John Ehlert, in celebration of his eighty-second birthday. John and his wife, Louise, were most pleased that all ten of their children were present for the occasion, as were some of the grandchildren. Those attending were: John and Edith (Curly) Skidmore of Rinewood; Dwayne and Alpha Ehlert, and son, Jeff, of Burlington, Wis.; Dean and Alice Ehlert and son, V0K.. 9 By: Buss Emerson, R-Ph. It's doubtful if science really knows what sleep is. It's recognized, of course, that it is very necessary in varying amounts if the human system is to function properly. Sleep gives your cells the necessary time to recover from the day's work and effort, it,. is the time your muscles relax and build up their store of fuel for a new day, and it is the time your blood requires to eliminate wastes through skin, lungs and kidneys. Although the young loudly resist it, the teenagers claim ability to do without it, and the ,oldsters sometimes have difficulty wooing it, sleep is a very necessary commodity if the body is to regenerate itself for another day. Don't be asleep in the important matter of having your prescriptions properly filled. Accurate and exacting filling, using the highest quality drugs, is assured at mmj-Strkam DRUGS, INC., 3720 W. Elm, Jewel Shopping Plaza. Phone 885-5057. We give S&H Green Stamps with prescriptions. If you halve any questions regarding pharmacy or public health which you would like to have discussed in this column, write to Russ Emerson, c/o this paper. House Guests LaVerne and Kelly Noah are pleased to have LaVerne's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnston of Chicago, and LaVerne's grandfather, Herman Baumert of Lebanon, Ind.. as their guests for two weeks. Naturally, the children, Debbie, Donna, Diane and David are having a wonderful time. LaVerne says that they have no plans to do anything special, since the way the weather is now, it's just too hot to move. Hard to Believe That anyone could stoop so low as to steal the driveway reflectors, posts and all, right off someone's driveway. Well, they did. Off the Kimbro- Stevens drive and I think it's a lousy shame. If anyone knows who took them or "where they are, will you please call. These are not cheap items; they are expensive. Isn't anything safe in anyone's yard anymore? It's time we nipped this in the bud, before any more things are taken. Stealing is a crime, no matter how small the item; a crime that is punishable. Casualty list This list is headed by Bill Davis who is sporting a broken arm, as the result of playing football in the empty lot. Next is Brian Kobus, who was hit in the head by a rock falling out of a tree. Honest, injun! That's what happened. It had apparently been lodged there and took that particular moment to fall out. Well, Brian got a stitch or two to prove it. Sick List George Kropf, (Jr. that is) is sick in bed with pneumonia, no less. Gotta admit, he does it up good, when he gets sick. Honestly, though, he's been a sick guy and hope that by the time you read this, he'll be back on his feet. Happy Occasions Birthday greetings go this week to the following: Tomorrow (Aug. 31) to Roy Schroeder; on Sept. 1 to Rita O'Brien and Mrs.. Emma Olson: on Sept. 2 to Terri Radtke who McHenry Shores MSC President Announces Heir Patt Petersen - 885-5*25 Bob and Shirley Harper are the proud parents of a brand new little boy born last Wednesday evening at 11:55. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 314 oz. Robert John Harper, Jr., will be the first grandson in the family and you can imagine that Grandpa Boor is pretty proud of that fact. Little Bob's big sister, Cathy, is also excited over the new arrival. Plane Crash Injures Shores Resident Sam Winters was injured in a plane crash last Saturday noon when he a1 tempted to land his private' plane east of Fox River Grove. The Winters' red plane which Sam built himself over a period of two years was demolished. We're happy to say that at last report Sam was improving in the McHenry hospital. He will be there for several weeks at last and I'm sure would appreciate some cards from his friends and neighbors. 20 Years of Wedded Bliss Bob and Evelyn Tanner celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary last week. Their guests included Evelyn's mother, Mrs. Laura Wolf, her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lane, and two children, Susan and Mark. Bob's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mi's. Russell Anderson. and their daughter and son-in-law, Lavern and Jack Scinecca, and Glenn's godfather, Mjlton and Pauline Neal. Unable to make the gathering were Bob's parents, Mr .and Mrs. John Millus, and his niece, Iris Anderson. It was a regular Christmas in August with a huge dinner and all the trimmings and the whole family to enjoy it. They went for boat rides, took a turn on the water skis and had such a good time. American Beauty roses which *he received from Bob pud Glenn. \ Sewing Club The last meeting of the sewing club was held in the home of our new young bride, Jackie McDermortt. Those present were Nanley Ewald, Joyce Calvert, Joyce Lexow, Shirley Harper and Patt Petersen. The girls enjoyed the usual chatter sewing arid delicious refreshments. Starting next week, I will be stating where the sewing club will meet the following week. I slipped up this week and was unable to contact the right people for the right information but next week I will list the girl having the following week's meeting and then anyone wishing to come may do so. Triple Birthday Tceat The Ken Kingstons had quite a birthday oplebration, in fact, they had two parties. Mrs. Kingston's parents were out last Saturday and Mr. Kingston's on the previous Sunday. They were actually celebrating three birthdays, mother, father and son all have birthdays quite close together so they decided to combine the affairs. The received many nice gifts, had a delicious supper and played some very ingenious games thought up by Mrs. Kingston. Prizes were given and ice cream and cake was served. The Kingstons have really been busy these past weeks. They also celebrated their second wedding anniversary on July 30. They spent the evening with Mrs. Kingston's sister and brother-in-law and hit all the high spots. They even went to investigate the twist. Loop Trip The Brunkes took their girls in to the loop lqst week for the purpose of showing them the interesting museums. Buckingham fountain, the Prudential building, etc. Alice says the thing that fascinated them the most, however! were the buses. It seems living out in the country as we do, the girls don't get a chance to see them. The Brunkes stayed with Art's parents while they were in Chicago. Company's Coming The Burchfields had guests last week from Dubuque, Iowa. They were Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Peacock and their children, Carol and Bob. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hicks entertained the Middlekauffs last Saturday evening by taking them to a well known theater restaurant. They enjoyed an excellent meal and saw a very gay comedy. Don't forget the SSAC steak cookout on Sept. 8!! An item that I forgot to put in several weeks ago; Willis and Terry Coates went to a birthday party in honor of Willis' mother's birthday. She was 91 years old. She is Mrs. E. W. Coates of Oak Park. Don is a fellow with varied interests; he once drove stock cars and pow loves car races but prefers the sports cars, he really enjoys a home close to the water where he can waterski, swim and go sailing. In fact he's such an old salt that he's turning his basement into a sailboat. Where ever possible he has tried to make the basement recreation room resemble white sails on a salty sea. Their whole house actually was designed with a ship motif. Friends of the Calverts will remember the doorknocker in the shape of an anchor as well as the andirons on the hearth. Don is employed by the telephone company and has a very interesting job working on communications equipment in the loop. Joyce is employed by the Calvert family which is run by a board of directors including: Debbie, 7; Laura, 5V2; Michelle, 3; Brian, l1^ and Petey the parakeet. Joyce also loves the water and can often be found water skiing and swimming at our beach. Before she was married she taught life saving and swimming for the Red Cross. Dangerous Situation Existing In Shores I have been informed that a very dangerous situation exists] in the subdivision. It is believed that poison has been set out for stray animals, mainly cats. A total of eight cats have been missing in the suspiciously short period of one month and some have been found dead of poisoning. Of course killing off the pets in the area may put a stop to garden digging and fence post serenading but it will never plug up the empty spot in the owner's heart for his dead animal. This however is mjncjr com' pared to the real danger of children being poisoned. Kids are curious beings and more than one child has been known to sample his dog's biscuits or the cat's food. So please, do some thinking before you set out a plate of deadly food for some unsuspecting animal or child! Help Conquer C. F. Cystic fibrosis is one of the most serious and most common chronic diseases with which children are born. Miss Cathy Barrows and some other teenagers will be asking for donations to CF in our community next week. The co-chairmen for McHenry County are Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Fuhrer, of Wonder Lake. Beach Clean Up Sept. 2 is the date. Bring your lawnmower, rake, clippers. etc. and come down to the beach. A clean up party is the aim and the invitation Is extended to Bill Tennert. Gerald Morris, Stan Misiak, Frank Lamerand and Douglas Wilsman. Burehfield's Vacation Trip Mr. and Mrs. Burchfield and daughter. Jeanette, had a thoroughly enjoyable time on their week long trip through Iowa and Illinois. They started off by traveling to Dubuque, Iowa and then to the beautiful Mississippi Palisades for some lovely scenery. Blackhawk sta'e park was next on their list and Starved Rock in Lasalle, then to Warrer. where Beatrice's folks live. They had a very enjoyable time. The Wagners have been enjoying this trip up north for close to 20 years. So safely dispose of the trash when you're finished. urges the Institute for Safer Living. Camping spots, picnic areas and beaches are the scene of many serious injuries each year. These are caused by broken bottles, jagged cans and other cast-off picnic items. Remember the golden rule when you go picnicking. Jt's your responsibility to leave the premises clean and accident free when you've finished. \ SHOP AT HOME be 4*. and Wililam Lokay, Jr., on the seventh.
