Mr. and Mrs. Carl Janensch, Paul JanensCh, Miss Claudia Partipilo and Armond Partipilo. Dancing was enjoyed by all after dinner. Barbara Miller Engaged To Marry Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Miller of 3702 W. Grand avenue, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara, to PFC Richard Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Williams of Mylith Park, McHenry. , Miss Miller is a graduate of McHenry high school and is now employed in McHenry. PFC Williams graduated from Wauconda high school and attended Illinois Western university before entering the service. The wedding will take place in November. Madeleine Schroeder Elected District Deputy Mrs. Madeleine Schroeder of Court Joyce Kilmer 573 of the Catholic Daughters of America has been elected District Deputy for two years. She will serve the Elgin- and Belvidere courts. LOCAL DEMOCRATIC WOMEN PLAN FOR STYLE REVUE Hanford Family Holds Reunion The fifth annual Hanford reunion was held at the Robert Hanford residence rec e n 11 y, with fifty-one family members in attendance from Phoenix, Ariz., Lansing, Okemos, Kalam a z o o , H i c k o r y C o r n e r s , Grand Rapids and Big Rapids, Mich., Chicago, Downers Grove and McHenry. Trophies were awarded to the oldest in attendance, Mrs: Emily Curtis of Lansing; the youngest, Scott Mathiak of Hickory Corners; the person travelling the farthest, Mrs. John Johnson of Phoenix; the member with largest family, Fortis Hanford of McHenry; the most productive single family, Mrs. Elizabeth Duffy of Grand Rapids. Slides taken by Wallace Hanford on his European trip this summer were enjoyed. Ray Hanford, president this year, handed down a black shovel to the new president, containing the names of all past presidents. New officers include Mrs. Emily Curtis, Okemos, Mich., president and Martin Van Buren, Kalamazoo, secretary-treasurer. Cards were signed by all members present and sent to Charles Hanford of Paramus, N. J., oldest living member of the Hanford family, and to Russell Vorce of Big Rapids, Mich., who was unable to attend due to poor health. The McHenry Township Democratic Women's club will present its fifth annual style show at the McHenry Country club on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. Mrs. Carolyn Hoffman is general chairman of the event, and Mrs. Anthony Siadek is ticket chairman. Fashions will be presented by the Casual Shoppe, the Toddler shop and Otto Heinz Furs. Mrs. Mary Thelen *8-30-62 Miss Hildie Bock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bock of Cary, became the bride of Mr. James Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Redwanz of McHenry, in a beautiful wedding service at St. Mary's Catholic church last Saturday, Aug. 25, Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer officiated at the 11:30 o'clock service. Sister M. Andreella, O.S.F., offered organ music during the ceremony, performed in a church decorated with pink carnations and white glads on the altar. Petite Miss Bock was charming in a silk organza gown fashioned over pure white bridal taffeta, with bodice and sleeves of rosepoint lace. The curved neckline was scalloped and detailed with pearl embroidery. A pleated midriff at the tiny waist was accented by miniature lace motifs on which the pearl trim was repeated. Her full chapel train skirt developed from deep dressmaker pleats over lace front panel and swept backward to form the train and# display a back panel of lace flowing from a hand formed organza rose. Her crown of tiny seed pearls, crystal and silk organza roses held in place a fingertip veil. The bridal bouquet included a white orchid, roses and carnations. She wore a sterling silver cross with a diamond in the center, a gift from the groom. Mrs. Hildie Francke of McHenry acted as matron of honor and Miss Sandra Jones of McHenry, sister of the groom, and Miss Joanne Cronin of Chicago, a friend, were bridesmaids. They were attired similarly in pink, silk chiffon, sheath dresses with draped necklines, detachable, full over-skirls and featuring bows at the waist. With them they wore matching pillbox hats and shoes, and pearl necklaces, the latter gifts from the bride. Their flowers were bouquets of pink and white roses and white carnations. Miss Linda Hirsh, the pretty flower girl, wore a pink organdy dress, with headpiece of pink and white roses and white carnations and carried a basket filled with pink and white roses and white carnations. Richard Antonson of Martinsville, N. J., served as best man and groomsmen were Jerry Hoffman of Car lock, a university classmate of the groom, and Mike Mercer of Chillicothe, 111. Ushers were Terry Brady and Robert Bates of McHenry. Miss Bock's mother wore a linen, princess style dress in turquoise, with white accessories, and a corsage of white cymbidium orchids. Mrs. Redwanz chose a light beige shantung, princess style dress with taupe accessories and a corsage of yellow cymbidium orchids. , Breakfast followed the ceremony at the Starlite restau rant for thirty-five guests, in the evening. 175 friends relatives gathered at the V.F.W. clubhouse for a reception. Following a two-week trip to Grand Maris, Minn., the couple will make their home i n C h a m p a i g n , w h e r e t h e groom is a senior at the University of Illinois in the school of aeronautical engineering. He is a 1959 graduate of the McHenry high school. The bride graduated from the local high school the same year and is employed in secretarial work in Chicago. HUGH SAYNOR CHEF DE GARE COUNTYJO & 8 Impressive Rile In Legion Home Is Well Attended A \most impressive ritual ceremony, along with an evening of gala events and meeting of old acquaintances, were enjoyed by an exceptionally large crowd last Saturday evening at the joint installation of the 40-8 and 8-40 of McHenry county, held at the McHenry Legion home. Hugh J. Saynor, Sr., of Eastwood Manor was installed in the office of chef de gare of Voiture 578, 40-8, by Grande Chef De Gare (passe) d'lllinois Jerry Doherity. Grande Cheminot (passe) of the second district, Harold Hanford, acted as conduteur, assisted by Burton Scott. Mrs. Margaret Alvis of Crystal Lake was installed as chapeau of the salon of the 8-40 of the county. Ladies of the group prepared a tempting buffet which was enjoyed before the installation. A large delegate from Kane K e n d a l l V o i t u r e 5 9 2 w e r e present, along with the new grande cheminot of the second district, Robert Tracy, and wife of Hinsdale. Officers who installed Mr. Saynor were the same who gave him the oath and initiated him into the 40-8 a few years previously at the Kane Kendall Wreck at Piano. Present Check A highlight at the evening was presentation of a check by Nurses Procurement Program Chairman Lester Siedschlag to Miss Connie Jayko, R.N., of McHenry. A check was also presented recently to Graduate Nursfe Miss Schuler and another to Graduate Nurse Miss Grochocki. These young ladies are all from the county and received scholarships from Voiture 578 at the beginning of their training. To date, the voiture has given nurse scholarships to twenty- five young students in tyie county, of which twenty-one are now graduate nurses and four are in training at the present time. This program is functioning with a membership of just a few more than the amount of scholarships awarded. Mr. Saynor has announced that the number of scholarships to be awarded to students in the county this coming year will depend on the financial success of moneymaking ventures during the year. Approve Slogan Nurse Scholarship Chairman Siedschlag approved the slogan adopted by the voiture, which is painted on the skirts of the locomotive. It is a big red heart with the inscription, "The Little Voiture With a Big Heart". The installation closed with a most impressive service for the departed comrades of the WOMAN'S CLUB OPENS YEAR WITH "MIRACLE WORKER" ANN VARESE On Sept. 12 at noon, the Mc? Henry Woman's club will open its 1962-63 season with a luncheon at Shady Lane in Marengo. They will present Ann Varese and her daughter, Leora, in "The Miracle Worker," which is the story of young Helen Keller, locked in a world of darkness, blind, deaf and dumb, and her teacher, Annie Sullivan. Ann V&rese is well known in the Chicago area for her many musical comedy and dramatic presentations and she is particularly proud to perform with her daughter in this stirring and moving drama. Leora Varese has been featured in' "The Sound of Music" and "The Music Man" recently presented by Ann Varetse in McHenry and surrounding communities. Leora has danced and sung on stage with her mother many times and is already making plans to persue a musical comedy career like her mother. It is expected that the entire membership will want to attend the • opening meeting and will be called for their reservations. The McHenry Woman's club extends a cordial invitation to non-members who wish to attend. Howard at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Stueben, 3916 W. Main street, McHenry, Miss Jean Anthony, 3310 S. Riverside drive, became the bride of Mr. Karl Stueben Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26, at 5 o'clock. Miss Anthony was lovely in a white ballerina length peau de soie dress with scoop neckline and bridal point sleeves. Her shoulder length veil fell f r o m a s i l k o r g a n z a r o s e crown. She wore a wrist bour quet of white roses and stephanotis. Attending the bride as maid of honor was Miss Judith Mathews of Crystal Lake. After a wedding trip in Wisconsin the bridal couple will be home at 331 W. Terra Cotta avenue, Crystal Lake. The bride is music supervisor at Edgebrook and Junior high school and the groom is principal at Valley View school. Mrs. Stueben is a graduate of Austin high school, Chicago, and received, a B.S. degree in education at Northern Illinois university. Mr. Stueben graduated from McHenry high school and received a B. S. degree in education at Northern Illinois university. HIGH SCHOOL PTA TO OPEN SEASON IN MID-SEPTEMBER Mrs. John Boehm, president of the McHenry High School P.T.A., has announced the first . meeting of the new school year A for Sept. 13 at 8:15 o'clock in the high school cafeteria. The officers and executive board are hoping that new members will make an effort to attend fhis initial meeting. Just a few of the programs of interest to members include chaperoning dances, homecoming parade, Club After-Glow following the prom, scholarships, speakers from colleges^ and universities, juvenile safety, and many others. Mrs. Boehm added that many people were not aware last year of the existence of this new High School P.T.A., and thjas hopes that 'hose reading thistitem will pass it along to their iriends who have children in nigh school. She stresses the importance of P.T.A. work as related to the higl# school .student and assures prospective members that they will be mosf surprised to find how interesting their children are when in contact with someone other than their family.
