BEVERLY NOVAK IS MARRIED IN LOVELY SERVICE Knights Of Columbus Sponsor Pot-Luck A pot-luck dinner planned by the Knights of Columbus of McHenry will be served Sunday, Sept. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the K. of C. hall, including Virginia baked ham and roast beef. Those attending are asked to bring a hot dish to pass. A small donation will be charged. Another coming event for the organization is the public dance which they are sponsoring . on Oct. 6 at the Legion home. ir jm Roast Beef Dinner Honors Larry Thomas The Community Methodist church of McHenry is serving a roast beef dinner in honor of Larry Thomas on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the church dining rooms on Main street. Service will be from 5:30 to 7:30 o'clock. The public is invited to attend, and reservations may be secured in advance by calling Peter Kasper of McHenry. Entertainment for the evening will be under the capable supervision of Ed. Wittrock. Women of the church wjll be serving the meal, and the ent i r e m e m b e r s h i p s i n c e r e l y hopes everyone will attend. Larry Thomas had been an active leader in the church prior to his recent illness, and the church is pleased to pay respect and admiration to him with this dinner. Hold "Pool Warming" At Harth Residence The "pool warming" party given by Ernie and Helene Harth of Cooney Heights last Saturday could not be dampened in spirit in spite of the downpour. The large gathering was held on the completion of the Harths' new 20x40-foot pool. Mrs. Harth worked along with her husband and son, Terry, to complete the pool and a spacious patio, which includes a Japanese garden. Among guests who continued to dive into the clear water in the midst of the raindrops were Chuck and Dorothy Miller, Phil and Maureen Doher- Wk DONNA DeMAR Donna DeMar Is Engaged To Wed Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeMar of 4520 E. Parkview, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Donna, to George J. Diedrich, son of Mr. and Mrs. George P. Diedrich of Miller road, McHenry. Miss DeMar is a 1959 graduate of McHenry high school and Mr. Diedrich is ..a 1959 graduate of Richmond-Burton high ih Richmond. No immediate plans have been made for the wedding. Court Joyce Kilmer Plans For Workshop At the first meeting of the season for Court Joyce Kilmer, Catholic Daughters of America, on Thursday evening, an invitation was extended for members to participate in the JDCCW institute at Marian Central high school at Woodstock on Sept. 30. Announcement was made that the coming workshop for the state will be held at Effingham on Oct. 13 and 14. The new district deputy for the court will be Mrs. Lucille Marchesehi. An inspiring talk was given by the chaplain, Fr. Parker. At the business meeting in October, 'the court will celebrate its forty-second anniversary. Plans are being completed for a public party at the K. of C. hall on Oct. 18. Ladies' Aid Sponsors Luncheon, Card Party The Ladies' Aid society of Zion Lutheran church will sponsor a dessert luncheon and Miss Beverly Novak, daughter of Mrs. Peter John Novak of 318 N. Glenwood drive, and the late Mr. Novak, exchanged nuptial vows with Mr. William Edward Todhunter, son of William J. Todhunter of 406 S Lombard, Oak Park, and the late Mrs. Todhunter, last Sat urday, Sept. 8. Rev. Fr. Edward Coakley officiated" at the nuptial Mass which was solemnized at 11 o'clock in the mpfrw ing at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Miss Novak was charming as she approached the altar wearing an ivory peau de soie dress with alencon lace. It was designed princess style, bell skirt and chapel train coat dress, button trimmed from neckline to hem. Acting as maid of honor was Helen Novak of Glenwood Drive, while Mrs. Richard Courtney of Rt. 2, DeKalb, was bridesmaid. They wore pink peau de soie street length dresses styled with bell skirts, and wore ivy headpieces. They carried bouquets of pink roses and ivy. Frank Young of Oak Park served as best man and ushers were William Gentle of River Forest, Leo Miller and Jerome O'Connor of Chicago and Leon McGreevey of Great Bend, Kas. Mrs. Novak selected for her daughter's wedding a beige brocade fheath dress. A breakfast followed the ceremony for 175 guests at the McHenry Country club, after which the couple left on a trip to California. They will make their home in Oak Park. The bride attended Northwestern university. Her husband is a graduate of St. Benedict's college, Atchison, Kas., where he received his BA degree, and later attended Northwestern university, where he received an MA degree. He is a research and statistics writer for the Cook County Department of Public Aid. McHenry Girl Among Top Contest Twirlers The Medettes baton twirling corps participated in the state street parade recently which kicked-off the World's Fair of Music and Sound at McCormick place. This climaxed a successful season in which the groups brought home seven more trophies from a two-day contest at Mazon, held in conjunction with the Grundy County fair in August. Two Medettes corps entered in beginner corps competition at Mazon and one of them won a first place trophy. Among numbers of the winning corps was Linda Crane of Lakeland Park, a freshman at McHenry high school this fall. Complete Plans For GOP Dinner The executive board of the Tri-County Republican c lu b met on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Canon Of Belvidere, with Mrs. Ernest Derreberry, president, presiding. Final plans were completed for a candidates' dinner to be held Friday, Sept. 28, at the Biltmore Country club in Barrington. Rear Admiral. Albert Collins Burrows (U.S.N. Ret.) will be the featured speaker of the event. General Chairmen of the dinner are Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Walerius of Barrington. The McHenry County representatives on the board, to dat^are Harry Kinne, Crystal LSke, executive vice-president; Mrs. Charles Miller, McHenry, area vice-president; Frank Kenney, Barrington, recording secretary; Mrs. Thomas Davis, McHenry, assistant treasurer. The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Davis, McHenry. McHenry county Republican men and women interested in becoming members of the club, obtaining more information, or desiring tickets for the dinner are urged to call any of the McHenry board members. McHENRY WOMEN AMONG DEANERY COUNCIL OFFICERS Registration showed approximately seventy-five ladies attenled the McHenry Deanery Council of Catholic Women meeting held at St. Margaret Mary parish hall on Thursday 'niglttr-'Sept. 6. Delegates from parishes in Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, McHenry, RichmMd, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake and Woodstock were present to vote for a new slate of officers. Those who will take over offices for a term of two years are Mrs. Mclntee of Richmond, president; Mrs. Leonard Pawlikowski of McHenry, first vice-president; Mrs. William Boetsch of Crystal Lake, second vice-president; Mrs. Christy Burden of Woodstock, sec r e t a r y; Mrs. Charles Freund of Spring Grove, treasurer. JAYCEES HOLD FIRST ANNUAL CHICKEN BAR-B-Q The McHenry Jaycees will hold their first annual chicken barbecue on Sunday, Seipt. 16, on the McHenry village green between the hours of 12 and 3 p.m. The public is invited to forego the necessity of preparing their Sunday dinner and may either pick up or enjoy an "on the spot" picnic, which will include barbecued chicken( 2% lbs.), two baked potatoes and cdle slaw, (enough for two people) ready to go.
