Twenty guests from Barrlngton, Winthrop Harbor, Fox Lake, Crystal Lake, Wauconda and McHenry enjoyed dinner at a Diamond Lake restaurant fallowed by a social evening at the Murray heme Mrs. Adams served as maid of honor at her, sister's wed ding and Mel Stone, who acted as best man, with his wife, also helped them to celebrate Saturday evening. Raymond Walsh of Fox Lake, a charter member of Lake Region American Legion Post 703 of Fox Lake, well known in this vicinity, has been named Citizen of th Year and given a citation-' for his extensive work witty the numbering system in the Fox Lake Fire Protection District. 103 street names had to be changed due to duplication and numbering mix-ups. He pre pared maps of the Fox Lake Fire Protection District giving names and street addresses so homes could be easily located. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Muska returned recently from a three weeks' vacation, two weeks of which were spent on a tour of Japan and one in Hawaii. While in Japan the group had Hie unique experience of staying part time at a Japanese Inn where they ate Japanese food, slept 6n fhe floor and followed other Japanese customs. The highlight of their Hawaiian trip was the meeting of old friends who showered them with leis and a box of orchids when they boarded the plane for home. Mrs. Agnes Wissell, accomoanied by her daughter, Mrs.. Hilmer Heike and family of Mundelein, spent the weekend in the home of her son, Charles Wissell, and family in Loyal, Wis. Rev. Fr. L. B. Delire of Holy Rosary parish, Chicago, speni a few days last week in the home of his sister, Mrs. James Powers. A reunion of the Corso family was held at -the Charles Corso home on Oct. 14, with twenty-seven present from Chicago, Cicero, Elmhursc, Nlles and McHenry to enjoy a social afternoon and evening and buffet supper. Mrs. Clinton Martin received word on Sunday of the death of her brother-in-law, Harry Golding, which occurred in Belleview, Fla., early that morning. Mr. and Mrs. James Kline who just returned from a two weeks vacation at Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Canada, had the good luck to bring home a deer. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Staines of Kenosha, Wis., were Sunday guests in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs- William Staines. CONSERVATION HEPOHT GIVEN FOR PAST YEAR Illinois farmers with Soil Conservation district assistance made rapid progress in applying conservation treatment to their land during the past year. This was revealed this week in a report for the year ending June 30 by B. B. Clark, state conservationist, S o i l C o n s e r v a t i o n s e r v i c e , Champaign. Over 3,600 farmers became cooperators of the ninety-eight soil and water conservation districts in Illinois during this twelve-month period. Soil and water conservation districts are now organized in every county of the state. This was completed during the year with the addition of a part of DuPage county to the Kane-DuPage district. Technical assistance is provided to farmers cooperating with the districts by the U. S. S o i l C o n s e r v a t i o n s e r v i c e , Clark pointed out. This assistance resulted in the following a c c o m p l i s h m e n t s l a s t y e a r : 3,100 complete conservation plans, 1 million acres of soils mapped, 220,400 acres of cons e r v a t i o n c r o p p i n g s y s t e m s , 50,500 acres of contour tillage, 79,000 acres of cover cropping, 1,200 farm ponds, 4,000 acres of grassed waterways, vand 878 dams or structured for gully stabilization. Wildlife practices and tree planting showed gains. Over 5,000 acres were planted to trees with 23,000 acres of land improved primarily for wildlife. Over 2,600 1 acres of Woodland were improved by weeding and 6,100 acres of woodland were improved by good harvest cutting. The McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district accomplished the following according to Sam Haning, soil conservationist for this d i s t r i c t : D u r i n g t h e y e a r agreements with eighty-four new cooperators were approved, bringing the total active coopcrators to 828. Forty basic plans were developed and ten plans revised. Two new drainage groups were organized and approved for technical assistance. A total of thirty such groups have been assisted to date.
