College of Engineering Alumni committee meeting to which high school principals and counselors were invited. The two-day session on the campus at Urbana- Champaign was devoted to discussing high school understanding of engineering and its opportunities for young men and women. Miss Bailey, who in 1950 was the only coed graduated in engineering from Illinois, pointed out the great opportunities for women. "Russia has plenty of women engineers," she. said. "Here in America, teachers, parents and school guidance counselors simply don't think of suggesting engineering careers to bright girls who show aptitudes in mathematics and science." U. of I. today has twenty-four undergraduate women and seven graduate women students in engineering fields. COURT BRIEFS Lakemoor URGE ATTENDANCE AT VILLAGE MEET THURSDAY. NOV. 8 Carol Venable Halloween pranksters appeared in "the court of Police Magistrate Donald Howard last Thursday night. John Christie of 1003 W. Sunnyside was fined $25 and Edward Schwabauep of Country Lane road and Kenneth Owens of 1902 Beach avenue, McHenry, paid $10 fines each on charges of littering the street. Three others -- all minors •-- were :ent to the <?ity juvenile officer. Also in the connection with Halloween mischief, several others were fined for tumultuous conduct. They included Jack Adams of Plymouth Lane, Louise G. Sawisch of Birch street, Ron Freund of Charles street,. Marshall Pearson of Rt. 9 and Jack Christie of Sunnyside. All paid $10 fines. One minor was ordered to report to the juvenile officer. Tom Widhalm ot W. Third street was fined $10 for using firework® on Halloween night. Lake paid a $50 fine for not having a driver^ license and the same fine for reckless driving. Thomas Gerambio of Mc- Fenry had a $27 fine imposed for driving with fictitious state plates. Lawrence Jenkins of Crystal Lake d'sobeyed a stop sign and paid $10 for the offense. When he appeared in the court of Justice of the Peace Charles M. Adams last. Saturday, Harvey W. Biggers of Wonder Lake paid a $7 fine for improper backing. Migkel Vaab of Crystal Lake was fined $15 for making an improper left turn. Ruth I. Chadwick of Lakeland Park had a $10 fine imposed for not having a driver's license. For driving overweight on the license with a school bus, James Wegener of Ringwoud paid a $15 fine. HERE AND THERE IN BUSINESS BUS CONTRACTORS MEET James Wegener, Ray Stilling, Cecil Ballowe and Glenn Draper, representatives of the Worts Transit company, all of McHenry, will be legislative delegates at the Illinois School Bus Contractors' association meeting in Springfield Nov. 10. Legislation that will be actively supported by the association in the next session or the Illinois Legislature includes uniform licensing of all school buses with a uniform fee of $2. It was explained fined $78 for driving an overweight truck. that this will permit the inspection of all school buses and issuance of school bus tags by the Superintendent of Public Instruction's office, rather than having some buses inspected and required to comply only with truck inspection requirements. The safety of all children using bus transportation will thus be assured. Lakemoor Srout News The boy's color guard attended the presentation of colors in McHenry, Monday evening. A few weeks ago the girl's drill team made a trip to Downey hospital. They drilled, sang and played games with the veterans. Most of all they brought a little sunshine into the men's lives. The tentative schedule for the girl's team included drilling at the first basketball g a m e a t W o o d s t o c k h i g h school, and at the opening of the new gymnasium at Wauconda high school. Get-well Best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Jean Starczk who underwent surgery in Chicago last Friday. Also a little advise to her husband, Paul, "Chin up, better days are coming." On his way home from visiting her Friday evening he was involved in an accident which badly damaged his car. Fortunately no one was injured. Stork Visits Recently little Steve Maxim spent a week with his grandparents, Herb and Alberta Brossman. When he returned .'home his Mommy had a surprise for him, a baby brother, named Scott.
