Pitzen, Administrator Looze & Kinne, Attorney 3431 W. Elm St. McHenry, Illinois 385-1580 (Pub. Nov. 8-15-22) IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE On Thursday, Nov. 8, the regular monthly meeting of the McHenry Civil Defense Adr visory Council was held. It was called to order by Director of Civil Defense, John J. Shay. Richard Palmbach, director of RACES (Radio Communication) stated he had met with other radio "hams" and they were in the process of checking the communication plan. He stated that a control center of some sort is necessary before he can proceed. Director Shay assured him that plans were under way to establish one. Harold Vycital, on behalf of Chief Richard Lemker, made a report on the auxiliary police. He stated that there a complete revision under way and that all members of the auxiliary police will be notified by mail of their meetings. Members will be divided into squads and officers will be named to lead them. The officers will be the volunteer members of the auxiliary police. He also stated that additional men may enlist if they do so immediately. Gene Irwin represented Anthony Corcoran for Medical and Health division. Director Shay advised him to congratulate Mr. Corcoran on the excellent way he prepared the Medical and Health disaster plan. M. L. Schoenholtz, director of evacuation for all public and parochial schools in this area, stated that the evacuation plan prepared last year has been revised and brought up to date and it has been delivered to all school principals, bus drivers, etc. The highlight of the meeting was when Dr. Louis Marchi, director of radiological services, explained toward the conclusion of the meeting that all present had been exposed to radiation. Although not dangerous, present in the room was the radioactive Cobalt 60 source used in teaching the radiological courses. This had just been received that day. He stated that we had applied for this in February, 1962. The astonishing thing to those present was the fact that the radioactive source was only as big as about a one inch strand of hair, but it was delivered and kept in a 250- pound lead container. Dr. Marchi went on to explain much more about radiation and the equipment McHenry presently has; for example, geiger counters, etc. Director Shay stated that there was a small response to the three Civil Defense courses that we announced to the public on Nov. 1, 1962. The three are First Aid, Education^ for- Survival, and Radiological Instrument Operation. He stated if the public desires additional information regarding these or any other item in this article, they could phone him at 385- 2404 or simply write McHenry Civil Defense, McHenry, 111. Representing a "different" approach in automotive design, the 'Jeep' Wagoneer was developed exclusively for all-purpose station wagon service, unlike station wagon models which traditionally are adapted from existing passenger car and truck chassis designs. Described as "All-New and All-Jeep," the Wagoneer is offered in four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive models, both available with torque converter automatic transmission. Both four-door and two-door six-passenger body styles are offerd. Outline 1963 Wheat Program Wheat diversion and additional price-support payments are new features of the 1963 wheat stabilization program Bert Bridges, chairman, McHenry County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, said this week. These payments were provided by the new farm law, signed by President Kennedy on Sept. 27, 1962. They supplement the the marketing quotas and price supports previously in effect for the 1963 wheat crop. The chairman explained that the diversion payments will be available to growers who reduce their wheat acreage by at least 20 percent and who devote the diverted acres to an approved conservation use. The per acre payment will be determined by multiplying the 1959-1960 average yield estab- NEED MORE ROOM?
