MYSTERY OF LAST WEEK'S MISSING COLUMN SOLVED | Mary Lou Hartog - I am sorry about last week's column not getting to you but the story is this. Every Monday morning bright and early I put the VV.L. news in a special envelope and deposit it in a container in front of my shop and about a half hour later a good fairy comes along and picks it up and takes it into jMcHenry for me. I -- being ^he trusting type (or is it the unconscious type) never think of checking the box to be sure it is gone. Well, it seems that even good fairies get sick now and then and so along about Wednesday afternoon the master of our household happened to be walking by the news box and guess what he saw peacefully lying in the bottom of the jfcox. What else, but last week's ^iews envelope! He made a mad dash for McHenry but alas -- too late. So most of last weeks news plus this weeks news is combined this week. I'm very sorry and I will promise to check the box regularly from now on. Wonder Woods Topics The ladies of Wonder Woods met at Mary Sandgren's home on Tuesday evening, Oct. 30, and elected Lulu Carlson as the new chairman and Hazel Krllum as secretary-treasurer. They are most interested in planning some fine programs for the coming months and need your attendance to make them successful. Delia Cheney -- formerly the Shore Hills Cheneys. Delia writes from Palo Alto that' they are grandparents to a lovely young lady named Sandra. Sandra's father -- Lynn Cheney -- has not as yet had the pleasure of seeing his daughter since he is a jet pilot in the Navy and is at present on duty in the Mediterranean. She also says -- Will Harriet Bell please write to her and give her all the latest news. So now I've delivered the message and just stop calling me names. I am not a reprobate!!! Kiwanis News The fellow members of the Kiwanis chose a unique method of giving "the bird" to president Joe Sullivan when they presented him with a canary and beautiful cake as a wedding present. Joe was married Nov. 3. In the absence of a s c h e d u l e d p r o g r a m , H o r a c e Wagner presented a program that he had "held in the wings" for just such an occasion. He spoke about the duties of the club secretary. During his talk, he passed out the various forms that the new secretary will have to fill out for Kiwanis International. He answered questions about makeup meetings, members being deleted from the roster, and explained club rules governing various situations. Club attendance is not up tc. par -- remember, one rule of ,the Beans vs Steak Dinner contest is that the team with the fewest members at each meeting loses money proportionately. Help your team, and be present at the next meeting. This Plalnilealer Gets Around I asked for mail from other areas from ex-Wonder Lakers and I'm happy to say it is starting to come in. Holiday Hills SCRIBE PROUD OF VOTERS RECORD IN ELECTION Edie Iverson - S85-6S38 I would like to stand up and shout that I am from Holiday Hills. My pride this week stems from the election. The turnout from our subdivision was tremendous. The facts speak for themselves. Our residents are aware of the responsibility of every citizen to vote tor our public officials and they use the privilege which is not afforded to all people. Our residents are not content to let others decide for them, they want to be heard. We did s<> well this time, next election let's make it 100 per cent. It would be a shame to have all these wonderful plans fall by the wayside because the troop lacks a co-leader. Just someone to help out and it's gratifyihg work that sounds like fun. Their move came when Frank had the opportunity to go into a business in a brand new factory. Frank is secretary of the new business which went, into production early in October. Holiday Hills will miss this fine family which resided here for several years, but we certainly want to wish them luck and every happiness in their newest endeavor. Lorraine and Dick Bemis report they all look fine and they had a fine weekend in Wisconsin. Most people empty out their pockets or purses now and then, to clean 'em out. Would it not be a good idea, also, to empty our minds of hatreds, prejudices, worries, and hurt feelings, now and then --and start all over? PASSING PBOriLtfM " To pass or not to' pass •-- that is the question, , w^en painted traffic lines are obliterated by slush or snow. One good rule to follow, according to the Institute for Safer Living, is to pass as little as possible when roads are in this condition.
