MEETING MONDAY; NOV. 26 Betty Hetternmmi ^The regular monthly meeting of St. John's Home and School association will be held as usual in the community club hall on Monday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. At this time various subjects will be discussed and all members are urged to be present. Betty Schmitt will be on hand with the candy and fruit cakes which she is i?i charge of. Plan on attending 0is meeting. Birthday Notes Jo Ann Freund celebrated her eleventh birthday last Monday by having a large group of her girl friends to her house for a party. The girls enjoyed various games followed by the opening of many lovely gifts. Mrs. Freund erved sandwiches and reshments to the party-goers. Birthday wishes are in order for Bobby Wakitsch who will be a young man of seven this week. "Happy Birthday" to all the November celebrants. It's a Girl! Excitement has been riding high in the home of Dick and Gloria Comstock since the ar- Wval of Patricia Ann on Nov. 8. This is the third child for the Comstocks but their first daughter. This accounts for all the excitement. The "center of attraction" arrived in the Mc- Henry hospital on the above mentioned date and weighed a healthy 7 lbs., and 8 ozs. Evsr so proud of their new sister are Ricky and Randy, to say Jiothing of the grandparents. *He Raymond Johnsons and the Fred Karpenskis. Our congratulations to all! Hospital Patient "Bud" Lieser entered the Woodstock hospital on Nov. 13 to undergo some tests. Just how long he is to be confined at this writing is not known. We all hope his stay will be £hort. Sad News Our sincere sympathies to the surviving members of 'the Sarah Miksek family. Mrs. Miksek passed away at the Villa Rest Home on Nov. 11. Funeral services were conducted in Chicago on Wednesday. Her husband, Joseph, fine daughter, three sons, twelve Krandc h i 1 d r e n, five greatgrandchildren and one sister are left to mourn. Mrs. Miksek was 65 at the time of her death.- Another death shocked this community last week when a heart attack claimed the life of Hank Oglesby of Crocket ts subdivision. Mr. Oglesby was 53 when he passed away so suddenly. He was a member of %St. John's parish and its Holy Name Society. Funeral services were held on Thursday in St John's church and burial services took place near Libertyville. Survivors include his widow, Helen; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Lucas of Seattle, Wash., Barbara Ann and one son, Jerry. Once again words are futile at a time such as this. We join in relaying the ^very deepest sympathies to the Oglesby survivors. Brownie News Troop 389 held its investiture on Nov. 13 with their mothers, troop committee, and guest, Mrs. Alice Bieschke, present. The girls were invested by their leaders, Barbara Frietsch, who in return was invested by Mrs. Bieschke. ^Dorothy Adams, co-leader of the troop, was welcomed back into active Scouting. Coffee and cake were served to the adults while the Brownies enjoyed cupcakes and soft drinks. The gathering ended by every- , Pete's by Pete Peters KEEP GOIN' SERVICES Of all the starting trouble ^enote at PETE'S SINCLAIR, battery run-down comes high on the list. And a sluggish battery during cold weather might be just the thing that'll hold you back when you're in a hurry. Of course, trouble in the car's electrical system can keep a batten' run down, and that's why you should play it safe and have it serviced fl|rrectly the first time. Drive over to 4416 W. Rte. 120, Lakeland Park, today for an inspection of your car's ignition system. You'll keep going then, even in the cold weather. one participating in the goodnight circle. Observes Golden Anniversary Once again a reminder to the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Steve May, who will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Nov. 24. The Rfciys extend an invitation to their friends to participate in the open house celebration in the community club after 8 p.m. Saturday evening. Here We Go Again I've polished up my soap box again this week so I could stand on it to speak on a most monotonous subject -- dogs! - dogs! and more dogs! Once again a complaint was brought to me by an irate mother who is trying only to protect her children. Lately quite a few loose dogs have been scaring the children quite badly. So dog owners if you think anything of your pets, either keep them at home or drastic measures will be taken. Please heed this warning as I really hate to be too reptitious. Rescue Squad Calls The Johnsburg rescue squad answered two calls this week which took them to McHenry on Tuesday and to Ringwood on Wednesday. The first was an elderly woman who slipped and fell in her home. She was not hurt seriously. The second call was a young man who suffered a seizure while at work and was taken to the McHenry hospital. Around the Town The Robert Smeltzer and William Morick families were recent dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith. On Tuesday of last week Mrs. Smith spent the day in Milwaukee visiting her aunt. Mrs. Margaret Delaney. On Thanksgiving day, the Smiths will be entertaining her children and her sisters and their families. Some twenty-f i v e people will be present to enjoy a family style holiday dinner. We would like to say "welcome back" to the Robert Joyce family who returned to our community after a short stay in the city. Emmit and Dolores Roberts. Richard and Catherine Dehn and Jim and Betty Hettermann attended the wake of George Klatt in Chicago last Wednesday evening. Mr. Klatt was the father-in-law of Donald Michels who with his wife, Dorothy, reside in Wonder Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frett and Connie May spent a short time in South Dakota for health purposes. Happy Thanksgiving to all! PENAL POPULATION The average daily inmate population of the state's penal institutions dec r e a s e d 1,114 during September, according to the Illinois Department of Public Safety. •Page Eleven McCullom Lake REMEMBER TO COUNT BLESSINGS ON THANKSGIVING Eve Levesque As we gather together on Thursday to ask the Lord's blessings, may we remember to give thanks for what we have already received. With strife prevalent in many parts of the world, we can be grateful that our shores are still safe from invaders. How long that "peace" will last, is anyone's guess. It is our fervent prayer that the learned men in high offices will continue to exert their influence and intelligence so that world conditions will improve and men and nations will find the answer to last peace. May the Lord bless your festive board through this holiday and those to come. Village Board R. M. Baxter and Woodman, Crystal Lake, addressed the last meeting of the village board on Monday, Nov. 12. He presented the outline for the sanitaVy disposal plant with two different proposals. The trusteees and village president are studying the merits of both cases and will offer such changes and revisions which they may deem necessary. They hope to cut costs to the extent that we will have an adequate system for the lowest possible outlay of money. The snow plowing contract was awarded to McHenry Sand and Gravel Co. by unanimous approval of the trustees. Emeregency repairs will be executed on Spring Road so that the road will not deteriorate further during the severe winter months. The next meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. Hospital Patient Lillian McCarthy suffered a recurrence of an old ailment that has plagued her for some time. Mrs. Howard Maxwell visited with her on Wednesday and summoned Mrs. McCarthy's physician who recommended immediate hospitalization. While a patient at McHenry hospital, she was xrayed and received treatment. She hoped to be home for the weekend. San Juan Jaunt As executive officer of VR- 724, Lt. Cmdr. Jake Levesque donned his flight suit Wednes day morning and took off from N.A.S., Glenview, for a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The transport plane was scheduled 1o be back at the base late Friday night. His projected flight would take him somewhat north of the island of Cuba, and the crew hoped to view the ships and planes of the U. S. which are patrolling the waters surrounding Cuba. We should have an interesting report OP that trip for the next column. Sentimental Journey Elsie and Clayt Nelson journeyed to Battle Creek, Mich., recently for a pre-holiday vicit with their two sons and families, Dr. Cliff and Dr. Don. They were gone about one week. Well Worth Reading Surely do hope you read tne letter to the public pulse which appeared in last week's paper --written by Mrs. Ruth Radtke of Fountain Lane, in the village. Plenty erf food for thought and she expresses the opinion shared by many people all over the country. May we say "bravo" for this literary gem! Conflict Over Shelter It seems as though some controversy has arisen over the efforts of the Ladies of the Lake organization to erect a shelter at Gate 4. First and foremost --the building will NOT be available for use until one ^ide has been removed, converting it into a three sided structure!! . Point 'two --all necessary steps to clear it with the village board will be taken. It was obtained in a great hurry, and perhaps the legality of it was overlooked. But certainly, no citizen in his heated car or warm house would deny proper shelter for school children while they are waiting for the bus. But, did you know that President Hoover was televised in a speech on April 8, 1928? Many improvements have been made since 1923 when the first picture patents were issued. Color after a slow start has increased rapidly in the past two years. Because television is comparably a very delicate instrument as compared to radio, it probably will always need regular maintenance services. Here too, big strides have taken place in better servicing instruments.
