Brady, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Brady, of 402 Santa Barbara, McHenry, has been chosen .a member of the all college council, the student governing body at the of Chicago, an uncle. Mary j College of St. Thomas, St. VanderMark acted as god- Paul, mother by proxy. A gathering was held later, attended by the godparents, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Langworthy, of Ada, Ohio, and the paternal grandparents,. Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Schaefer of McHenry. Shawn, the Schaefers' first child, was born Sept. 26. Miscellaneous Shower For Barbara Miller Miss Barbara Miller, a brideto- be, was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower held Thursday at the home of Joan Bauer, with Misses Bauer, F r a n c e s M a y f i e l d , T h e r e s a Hettermann, Patti Miller and Mrs. Frank Gossell as hostesses. Thirty guests were present to enjoy the evening, which was concluded by the serving of cake, ice cream and-coffee. The centerpiece on the serving table was a doll the bride had ayed with as a child, and her ridal gown was made by Miss Miller's mother from her own wedding dress. Miss Miller will become the bride of Pfc. Richard Williams oh. Nov. 24. The public is invited. There will be no admission charged. Terry's position on the fortysix member group is that of senior class representative. A graduate of McHenry high school, he is a senior at the college majoring in Business administration. The all college council is composed of one representative from each campus club and ""the two student publications, the four officers of each class, four council officers and a faculty adviser. MOTHER OF LOCAL WOMAN HONORED BY FLORIDA PTA Mrs. John W. Douglas, Lynn Haven, Fla., received a life membership in the Parent- Teacher association at the thirty-ninth annual session of the Florida Congress of Parents and Teachers held in Panama City Nov. 13 through 15. She was the recipient of one of fifteen life memberships a w a r d e d i n t h e s t a t e o f Florida. Mrs. Douglas is in her eighteenth year of active P.T.A. participation. She is the mother of Mrs. W. Dean Hargis, 2704 N. Stilling boulevard, McHenry, first grade teacher in the Hilltop elementary school. Mr. Hargis is football coach at McHenry high school. Mrs. Douglas received the honor through the courtesy of Cove Elementary school, where Mrs. Hargis spent her grammar school years. Mrs. Douglas received this award on her twenty-sixth wedding anniversary. Pan Hellenic To Meet On Nov. 27 The, women's Pan Hellenic group of McHenry county will hold a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 27, at. 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Ed. Alderson, West Rt. 120. Jhey will be working on plans for the bridge benefit in McHenry. Observe Golden Weddings COOKS CORNER by Marie Schaettgen Thanksgiving and the holiday season seem to roll around from day to day and season to season. Can't tell when one season ends and another begins., But -- pumpkin pie! -- there's no doubt about the season when it's pumpkin pie time. Here's my favorite recipe --try it. Pumpkin Pie 1 cup (generously full) canned pumpkin 1 cup milk 1 cup sugar 3 eggs slightly beaten 1 tsp cinnamon % tsp nutmeg Vz tsp ginger % tsp salt Vz tsp each vanilla and lemon flavoring Mix together spices and salt in small bowl. Beat slightly 3 eggs in large bowl. Add sugar mixture and stir until well dissolved. Add pumpkin and blend until mixed by hand. Add milk and stir until all ingredients well blended. Pour into your favorite unbaked crust. Bake at 400 degrees in pre-heated over for 15 minutes. Lower to 350 for 30 minutes or until silver blade inserted into center comes out clean. MR. AND MRS. JEPPE JEPSEN About 260 friends and relatives attended the dinner in Johnsburg last Wednesday evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jeppe Jepsen on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. Another forty called during the open house which followed. Out of town guests came from Denmark, Wisconsin, Iowa. Michigan, Missouri, Park Ridge, Addison, Kirkland, Kankakee, River Grove, Franklin Park. Waukegan, Zion, Highland Park, Glencoe, Antioch, Libertyville, Mundelein, Grayslake and Woodstock. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion in gold and white, the work of the Jepsens' daughters and their families. Bulfet tables, were set by a daughter, Lola Freberg. .Grandsons of the couple, Ricky Freberg and Bruce Christiansen, furnished musical selections, and Mrs. Jane- Carlson of Denmark composed a song which was sung to the Jepsens by Holgar Pedersen of McHenry. Days may come, and days may go But Where they go, we sure don't know! Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Howard are the parents of their first child, a son, Dean Jeffery, born Nov. 17 at Memorial hospital, Woodstock. Mrs. Howard is the former Clarice Blake. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leo Blake and Police Magistrate and Mrs. Donald Howard. The new baby is the youngest of five generations. Besides his father and paternal grandmother, Dean has a great-grandmother, Mrs. Gene Simpson, and a greatgreat grandmother, Mrs. Anna Jones, both of Woodstock. McHenry Hospital Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brod, 2518 Johnsburg road, announce the birth of a daughter, Beverly Jean, on Nov. 13. The baby's mother is the former Gail Matchen and the grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Mafchen, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Brod. Beverly Jean has an aunt, Linda Rae Larson. Memorial Hospital Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kreager are parents of a daughter born Nov. 14. Mr. and Mrs. James Potts announce the birth of a daughter Nov. 14. A daughter was born Nov. 14 to Mr. and Mrs. Gene French. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Woellert are parents of a daughter born Nov. 16. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank all who sent flowers, cards and gifts and attended the open house in honor of our fiftieth wedding anniversary. It was a memorable occasion, one we will never forget. GEORGE BAUMGARTNER Mr. and Mrs. George Baumgartner of 4602 Willow Lane, Lakeland Shores, McHenry, will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 25, when they will be guests of honor at a family gathering. The Baumgartners, their three sons and daughtersin- law and six grandchildren will enjoy dinner at an area restaurant in celebration of the memorable occasion. They were married in St. Viator's church, Chicago, on Nov. 27. 1912, and came to this community four years ago to make their home. Mr. Baumgartner is a retired po'iceman with the Chicago State hospital and his wife is retired from Bankers Life Insurance company. Mrs. Baumgartner has just been released from the hospital, and for this reason the celebration next week will be confined to a family party. They also visited Mrs. Johnston's father, Marshall S. Needham, who is confined in St. Luke's Methodist hospital in Cedar Rapids where he had undergone major surgery. Misses Dorothy and Louise Walsh have returned from a two weeks vacation in California where they visited the former's nieces, Mrs. Fred Sandeen, and family, in Los Angeles and Mrs. F. W. Terry and family, in San Francisco and also did much sight-seeing while there. They made the trip by jet. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Adams and Alfons Adams were visitors in the Nick Bert rang home in Aurora Friday evening. Mesdames John R. Freund, George P. SPEAKS FOR PTA At the Nov. 7 P.T.A. meeting, the Spring Grove elementary school was honored to have Fred Gunderson, Superintendent of Richmond schools, as guest speaker. His atopic was "American E d u c a t i o n Week" and what it means as parents in the family unit. As usual Mr. Gunderson was fluent and gracious in his endeavor to inform. 'io j' PLEDGES FRATERNITY William Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Anderson, McHenry, has been pledged to Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Ripon college. He is a graduate of McHenry Community high school. Couple Wed In Navy Tradition Future Homemakers Enjoy Field Trip Recently, members of the future Horpemakers of America took a field trip to a leading modeling school in Chicago. A model and teacher in the school showed us all the interesting sections such as voice i and diction, grooming, fashion d e s i g n i n g , m e r c h a n d i s i n g a n d posture. Following a -question and answer period, the girls toured one of the loop's leading department stores, a n d enjoyed viewing the lovely Christmas decorations. Kurt George Voss of McHenry, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Chapel By The Sea, at the U.S. Naval base in Newport, R. I. The double ring ceremony was performed by Chaplain II F. Maxwell, USN, before the parents, fellow officers of Ensign Voss and their wives. A guard of honor attended 1 ho couple in true Navy tradition. Following the ceremony, a luncheon was served for the wedding party in the Shamrock Hills hotel, after which the happy couple drove 1o Boston, Mass., for a brief honeymoon. They are now at home i at 7 Harold street, Newport, until mid-December, when they will depart for Pley West, Fla., where Ensign Voss has been assigned duty. The bridegroom earned his B.S. degree in March from Southern Illinois university at Carbondale. He graduated from the U.S. Navy officer candidate school on Oct. 26 as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Newport and was assistant battalion comma n d e r during his training. He has been assigned to justice school for a period of seven weeks at Newport, after which he will be based at Key West, Fla. Ensign Voss is a graduate of McHenry high school with the class of 1956.
