* Thursday, November 29,1362 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Page Eleven: McCullom Lake Local Bachelor Weds Saturday Eve Levesqae The scent of orange^lossoms is in the air, in spite "of the pre-wlnter weather, for popular bachelor Larry Larsen who will sacrifice his single state on Saturday, Dec. 1, when he takes Miss Barbara Petersen for his bride. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petersen of Ela Road, Palatine, and Larry is the son of Signe and* the leceased Ivar Larsen. They jjhvill repeat their vows at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Palatine at 3 p.m. One of their attendants will be Mrs. Kenneth Betts of Hickory Drive. A Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for wivited guests will be held at the home of the bride's parents. Barbara and Larry plan on Qa. honeymoon trip to Arizona and upon their return, they will move into the newly renovated La fsen home on Fountain Lane. We sincerely hope for a long, happy, and fruitful marriage for these two very nice people. I - informed him that Dennis lived "somewhere in the area." Leave it to our military men' That must have been one happy reunion and no doubt, it won't be the last visit. The young man also met Dennis' wife. Phyllis, and their two rapidly growing daughters. Teens Will Vend Yule Trees With the Christmas season rapidly drawing nigh, the Grif- <®fins teen club will add a useful service to the community. They will offer Christmas trees for sale on the McDonald property located on the McCullom Lake blacktop. The trees were scheduled for delivery the past weekend, but didn't arrive. Here's hoping they are available by this reading. In charge of procuring the ^trees were Roy Watson, Don Tomasello and Bill Aalto. Stroke Victim Improving The Johnsburg Rescue squad answered a summons at the Sam Deskis home a week ago Saturday in an attempt to revive Sam who had apparently suffered a mild stroke about 11:30 that morning. They did what they could and then an •ambulance was called to take him to McHenry hospital. He was still unconscious when admitted. Sam has been under doctor's care for about two years, but in spite of this, he appeared to be in fairly good health, $o it was a shock to his wife, Anna, and to the neighbors. Fortunately, he made splen- ^did progress- in his recovery and was able to come home on Saturday. According to Anna, he is able to be up for short intervals and is doing fine on a mild diet. It would be so nice to remember him with a cherry greeting because he will probably be convalescing for quite some time. Successful Party (J In Spite Of Handicaps! The annual "turkey trot" sponsored by the Ladies of the Lake and held at Whitey and Bernice's Nov. 17, thrived in spite of severe handicaps. Two other parties were scheduled for that night which scattered the crowd just a bit! It was a friendly and co-operative group of men and ladies that assembled and were ^greeted by hostesses. Each guest was presented with a lovely pink, white, yellow or bronze mum. Another "Loser" Proves To Be A Winner! We must admit to poetic license because the above name is pronounced with a long O but we thought the caption was cute. We are extremely happy to report that Delores and George Loser became the parents of a handsome son on Friday, Nov. 23 at 3:38 in the afternoon. This particular "roast beef sandwich" weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz. and any customer would get his money's worth with 22 inches! The local "restaurant" which distributed this succulent morsel was Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. This particular "sandwich" was nam.ed Leonard Craig. The clerks who are extoling the virtues of the little guy are George Jr., 17; Kathy, 16; Cindy (Cynthia), 13; Dorothy, 10; and Steven and Nancy, both 7 (not twins). The Loser family is open to congratulations and we couldn't be happier for the entire tribe! Hopes To Be Present When We "Hit" The Moon! A distinguished and erudite science reporter was a guest at the home of Martha an(T Tom Sylthe on Friday and Saturday of last week. The young man referred to, is Tom's nephew, Tor Sylthe of Oslo, Norway. This young man has been attending Columbia University for the past severamonths studying "advanced science writing problems." He is the science editor for "Verdens Gang" in Oslo. He came to this country on a Fulbright grant for transportation but the Norwegian Research Council paid for his tuition, board and room while at Columbia. Tor has been the only foreign reporterQ attending these classes. While in this country, Mr. Sylthe has covered twentytwo states including Washington and California to the west, Florida to the south. North Dakota, north central, and of course, he entered the country on the east coast. He was very much impressed with our installations on Cape Canaveral and the atomic energy plant in Brookhaven, on Long Island, j\t. Y. Mr. Sylthe will complete his studies next week and then he and his-wife, Aud, will return home. Aud will fly back while Tor will travel by ship. They have two youngsters eagerly awaiting their parents' return. Tfiey include Anne, 10 and Ole, 8. Mr. Sylthe is very much interested in returning to this country as a science reporter and would be stationed in Washington for 2 years. As Mr. Sylthe put it in his own words -- "I hope to come back to America when you put your first man on the moon"! He was greatly impressed with the friendliness of the American people and did not have the feelings shared by many foreigners -- "Yankee -- go home." It is a pleasure to write this story about Martha and Tom's nephew and we rejoice in their pride. bowling match between McDonald's and Harry McDade's team (Chicago) on Nov. 17 at the end of the first game. Our boys were down 78 pins, tut they recouped in the second and third games to emerge victorious by 127 pins. Top man on the totem pole both in game and series was Bill Scheid with 238 and a series of 625! Well behind but still making a fine showing were Bill Brennan and Ralph Kick with a 551 series apiece. Holding the hind slot was Muck Brennan with 417. Those sandwiched in between included Ray Kuna, Fred Mattj/ esius, Joe Wurm, Ray Stilling, Dick Kleinhusen, Lenny Ackerman, Ed Caron, Ken Ingersol, Ray Blake, Merv Huff and Ken Loesch. Following the tournament, the fellas and their wives congregated at McDonald's for a Thanksgiving party and turkey sandwiches. Fred Thomsen with his bald pate created ho end of merriment by donning a lovely wig and carried on about getting a "haircut"! He should be so luckv! Holiday Hills AMID HOLIDAY RUSH REMEMBER TO CALL NEWS ITEMS Inez Young Deepest Sympathy To Lil Sawdo who lost her second brother in a very short while through illness. The Sawdos attended the services in Chicago recently. Two Family Members Hospitalized Sally and Papa Olsen trekked to the big city before Thanksgiving and visited two hospitals. The first stop was Westlake hospital in Melrose Park where Sally's youngest daughter, Mrs. Tichy, was a patient. The other visit was to St. Luke's hospital to see Charley Temple. Sally's son-in-law, who has been a patient for many months. They returned in time to share the festive board with us. Ah! The Resiliency Of Youth Surgery on Monday and out and around on Saturday, but one must be only in the teens for this type of recuperation. Tom Kaprowicz (DeWitt) became violently ill on Sunday (a week ago). A physician was summoned Monday morning and at 11:30 a.m. he was in surgery at McHenry hospital, for an emergency appendectomy. He came home the latter part of the week and by Saturday he was "taking his exercise." Here's hoping he doesn't work too hard at being a "stoic American Indian" and put himself back! He looks very fine and should be back at nis studies in record time. Minds At Rest With the fruitful labors of Don Parenti, Ken Betts, Bob Fernandez, and Lee Mai, the shelter at Gate 4 has a new look. The men covered the structure with plywood and then stained same. They removed one wall -- making a three sided structure of it and the children have been using it. Fortunately, with our mild weather, its full capacity has not yet been realized. But -- just wait! Those northern blasts will be on us before long. We sincerely hope this will put an end to the complaints! Aid For Children Motorists are forced to slow down on the blacktop during the morning and afternoon school hours -- thanks to Mrs. Theresa Schultz. She was instrumental in obtaining two heavy duty all-weather school signs which are placed at either end of the village while school buses are bringing the children to school and home again. Chief of police Jack Schlofner has made arrangements to have the signs put in a conspicuous place on the road and remove them when the danger is past. BUI Scheid Hero Of Bowling Tourney Things appeared quite dark for our local lads during the Proof Of Defense On his recent jaunt to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Lt. Cmdr. Jake Levesque witnessed proof of our military defenses. He was called in to base operations at Roosevelt Roads, San Juan, and required military escort because the establishment was under top security guard. While there he was shown a map of the Carribean area and the placement of our air and sea defenses. He and his crew also flew over Cape Canaveral and witnessed the awesome sight of our launching pads. Family Jubilation Two special events in the Matthesius family gave cause for celebration.
