Meeting ' Patt Petersen 385-5425 The monthly meeting of the McHenry Shores club will be held in the V.F.W. hall tonight at 8. Be sure.to attend thfcj important meeting. Thp nominating committee^ariw present its selections for the coming director's election in January; two directors to be elected for 1 year terms and three directors to be elected for 3 year terms. The chairman of the nominating committee is Leone Wagner. She and her committee which consists of Howie Lexow and John Verstege have worked hard to try to present the best, slate possible. Let's try and have a good turnout at this meeting. Don't forget, cake and coffee, too! . Garden Club ' As our fall gardens turfi brown and barren it seems ail the more important to have flowers in the home even if they have to be artificial. Pink and red roses at Christmas have become as much a symbol in some homes as have the holly and the ivy. I imagine that ideas and suggestions of this sort were discussed at the recent meeting of the McHenry Garden club which was held in the lovely home of Mrs. Marlon Ritter of McHenry. Those attending from the Shores were Mildred Snively and Elian Duncan. Hospital News We are happy to announce that Irene Mueller is recuperating nicely after her operation Nov. 23. She will probably be at home by the time this addition is out. She was pleased to have a number of visits from her neighbors here in the Shores and Marilyn Moore even offered her services as a n u r s e . We a l l w i s h y o u a speedy recovery, Irene. JuneKratke also spent a day or so in the hospital for an ear operation. She, too, will be home now and we hope, feeling up to par again. Lecture Luncheon Club The monthly meeting of the Lecture Luncheon club was held at a nearby country club last Wednesday. Those attending from the Shores were Irene Middlekauff, Elian Duncan, Bernice MacCallum, Nell Rode, Mildred Snively, Louise Wint e r s , S a r a P a r t a i n , D a i s y Smith, Leah Hogan and her two guests; Mrs. Schultz (Leah's daughter) and Mrs. Miendl, both from Wheeling. The Ladies enjoyed a very nice lunch and a ssuperb speaker; Mr. Dan Moore, internationally known author and lecturer, who spoke on "Spy Warfare". Many of the ladies remarked that it would have been an equally entertaining talk for their husbands. Sympathies Extended Our sympathy is extended to two families in the Shores for deaths occurring over the Thanksgiving holiday. In the Mieritz family the loss was Roberta's grandmother, Mrs. Christ ianson, of Chicago. Funeral services were held on Friday. Pat Ruemellan's grandmother also passed away and services were held on Wednesday. St. Mary's Christmas Show A special Christmas show was given by St. Mary's school (his past Wednesday and from what I hear it must have been an outstanding show One of the highlights was a special tap dance act performed by five youngsters. Four of the five were from the Shores. They were Paddy Brunke, Linda Hattan, Debbie Calvert and Paul Schmitt. All dressed up for their 'Toy Soldier" routine, they were quite cute. Fashion Show Mildred Snively and Daisy Smith took time out for a gay excursion last Wednesday and drove themselves to a fashion show in Bensenville. The show was sponsored by the V.F.W. and they saw some very beautiful fashions and Mildred even came home with a prize. MethodSst Men's Club Sam Winters, Dick Barrows and Bob Tanner attended the monthly meeting of the Methodist Men's club last week and came away with memories of a very good dinner and an excellent speaker. An interesting talk on the Audy juvenile home was given by the Rev. Ferris who is the minister at the home. Bridal Shower Mrs. Ziemet attended a lovely bridal shower for newly married Carol Hansen in Chicago last week. There were around thirty-five guests and it was truly successful as there were no duplicates of gifts as is often the case. The bridegroom is Mr. Melvin Hansen and the Godchild of Mrs. Ziemet She stayed in the city with her mother, Mrs. Julia Kallas, over the weekend and the two of them went shopping all day Monday. Julia is pleased as punch at\ having most of her Christmas shopping done. (Wish I could say the same.) Some of us will never learn to shop early. More Holiday News Although the Christmas season is nearing on the calendar it seems barely true if you look outside your window The weather has been beautiful; a true ending to the fall season. Maybe this is the reason why most of us have yet to do our Christmas shopping, we can't seem to get into the spirit of Christmas. It still looks like Thanksgiving. And I feel absolutely'ho guilt when I continue to give you Thanksgiving news. Marge and Larry Hicks were able to see many of their family over the holiday. Their Thanksgiving gathering occurred near her brother, Don's home in Elmhurst. The Hicks had their big Thanksgiving meal at their club beforehand. Also enjoying their delicious meal at the club were the Middlekauffs and Irene's niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. William King. A delightful Thanksgiving .vas had at the Olbinski home when Gerry's mother came for a visit. Mickey and Jackie McDermott spent the last day of the holiday weekend with Mickey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas of Racine, Wis. The Wagners had a houseful when both sons and their families came far the big Thanksgiving feast.' Chuck and Marcie and son, Greg, came from Chicago and Dick and Janice frop Milwaukee. The Tanners went to a big family gathering in Libertyville where they spent the day at the home of Mr and Mrs. Ed Lane with about ten guests in all.
