FRETT BUILDERS Phone 815-459-1939 12-6-62 At 10 p.m. on that date rural NJcHenry telephone customers will begin using the nationwide Direct Distance Dialing (DDD) system. The special telephone equipment, which will allow all McHenry phone users to dial across the nation, will require everyone to dial the figure "1" first when placing a DDD call. The change in Direct Distance Dialing will not affect \palls to McHenry or Pistakee Highlands, according to W. Brown, Illinois Boll manager for the area. "It will" be necessary to dial '1' only when dialing jour own long distance calls," he said. "The completion of our DDD installation here," said Brown, "gives McHenry as modern a telephone system as there is anywhere in the country today." The modernization began August 30, 1959, when Mc- Henry's new telephone central office at 111 N. Court street went into service. At that time all of McHenry's 6„500 telephones were converted to dial service, and one-and two-party telephone customers also beigan Direct Distance Dialing. \ The next step in the modernization took place in April, 1961, when the new telephone directories came out featuring the first seven-figure numbers. WOODED SHORES WATER SUPPLY COMPANY By: T. P. Mathejvs, President (Pub. Dec. 6-13, 1962) Sheriff Ed. Dowd this-Week announced that he has appointed two long time career employees of the sheriff's department as his top assistants for the ensuing term. Both men h a v e w o r k e d c l o s e l y w i t h Dowd for the last eight years. Dowd states that he feels because of the outstanding record achieved in the past, thes«? appointments will insure that citizens of McHenry county will continue to receive the highest form of law enforcement possible. John C. Carroll, 42, lifelong Woodstock resident, is being promoted from lieutenant to chief deputy. He has been closely associated with Dowd for the last four years and together they have solved many of the county's important cases. The new chief deputy brings with him a long career in local law enforcement, having worked under the last four sheriffs, starting as a part time deputy for former Sheriff Fred Bau in 1946. Henry A. Nulle, Jr., 35, a native of Marengo and currently residing in Woodstock, has been employed in the sheriff's department since May, 1954 and is being promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. He is the son of the popular former Sheriff Henry (Hick) Nulle. Sheriff Ed Dowd also announced that in addition to a chief deputy and lieutenant he has filled several new positions. For the position of circuit court bailiff he has appointed Charles Hiller, 27, native of Johnsburg. Chuck is much better known for his prowess as second baseman of the San Francisco Giants. The sheriff further stated that it is his plan to activate a youth program for McHenry county, an mportant part of which will be centered around Hiller. As of yet this program has not been completely organized, but the details will be announced in the near future. Appointed patrolmen under Dowd are Dean Woods of Crystal Lake, Emery Vozdecky of Lake-in-the-Hills, Algonquin, and Forster Glorch ol Lakeland Park. beat Rod Schmidt (C) 7-2. 103( lbs.--Hank Justen (M) pinned Walter Bolisenga 5:29. 112 lbs.--John "Davis (M) tied Dave Fick (C) 2-2. 120 1 bs.--Jay Sayler (M) pinned Mark Williams <C) 3:21. 127 lbs.--Bob Magnussen <C> beat George Sorenson (M) 2-1. 133 lbs.--Bill McDillan (C) beat Russ Phillips (M) 2-0. 138 lbs.--Ralph Schmidt (C) beat Don Mercure (M) 4-2. 145 lbs.--John Oppetiheim (M t ninned Dennis Lackey (C) 3:35. • - " ; 154 lbs.--Lyndeli Stewart (C) beat Jim Doran (M) 7-0. 165 lbs.-DaVe Hurrtfcihrey :C) beat Ed Erb (M) M. 180 lbs.- Bob Wahl (M) beat T$m Heine (C) 9-0.
