All the women who Went out collecting in the cold and all the folks who donated so generously helped make this drive a success. Soda! ' feetty Johnson Recovertef From Heart Attack Betty Johnson suffered a heart attack last week and I am most happy to report she is doing fine. She will have tc take things real easy for a long time. Ladd died Jan. 28, and #as buried Jan. 31, Ladd was tile subdivider who planned jftd built the Highlands and we ill owe him a debt of thanks. year the Highlands has grown and wfc who have lived here over six years have seen tjje rapid growth his planning has made and we all are proud df our homes and the community he founded. The people in the-Highlands wish to express their sympathy to his wife and family and his passing will be mourned by m»nv • • Birthday Party r*' Jan. 29, Helen Walters celebrated her birthday with a little party. Several friends from Fox Lake and Mabel Gregg, Mrs. Johnson and Frieda Michaels were on hand to help Helen celebrate. Helen proudly showed her beautiful kitchen to the girls, she had done all the tiling and decorations her self. Clifford and Helen recently moved here from Fox Lake and are busy planning their landscaping for Spring, All the girls enjoyed delicious cake and coffee. See Deer Folks have called to say they have been enjoying the company of two deers seen wandev- »ng between the Highlands, Pistakee Hills and Whispering Hills. They are all thrilled over seeing such a beautiful sight so close to all the homes in this area. *New* of Your Friends And Neighbors" Dick Sabielny underwent surgery Jan. 24, at the- McHenry hospital and is coming along fine. Dick and Mary Lou's Aunt Mildred spent a few days with Mary Lou taking care of the kiddies so Mary Lou could visit with Dick. Dick was discharged from the hospital Jan. 28, and will not be permits to return to work for two weeks. Getting Dick home wns a major project for Mary Lou After getting him released she went to the parking lot oniy to find she had a flat tire and the spare was flat too so after a two hour wait the Sabielnys were happily on their way home. Wayne Taylor was also a patient in the McHenry hospital last week and all his friends send their best wishes for a speedy recovery. John and Margaret Kapolnoky of West Chicago spent Saturday afternoon and evening with Joe and Liesl Hanisch. The surprise visit turned out to be a costly one to John. His ear rolled in to the deep drain ditch the hill arid a to be called to get the car out. It was lucky nothing was damaged on the car. Last Thursday evening Betty Sandelin entertained these women in her home: Betty Zenner, Liesl Hanisch, Isabel Rittorno, Betty Warczak. Jane Malek, Marilyn (Bob's) Van- Zevern, Barb Sisk, LaVerne Madock and Kay Sielisch. All the gals enjoyed the fun games and other interesting events. Very delicious cakes and coffee were enjoyed by all. On behalf of friends, neighbors and relatives, I would like to extend a most happy birthday greeting to the following folks. Bobby Sandelin celebrates his second birthday Feb. 13; to my niece, Lori Ann Jesweak, who celebrates her first birthday Feb. 18; to Joyce Heir who celebrates Feb. 16; to Toots Spankuch who celebrate Feb. 17; to Ginny Thoren whe celebrates Feb. 18. Lost but not least our Valentine gal, Marilyn (Bob's) VanZevern who celebrates Feb. 14. All these folks will be celebrating their birthdays with their folks and friends. It is nice seeing Bob O'Malley back on his feet after a severe case of mumps, Bob is the first adult in the Highlands to have the mumps this year and it was a most unpleasant experince for Bob, but we will have to admit he is once again looking hale and hearty. The Charles Murgatro>d family is the latest one to be battling the mumps, Their son Steve, has them. We hope all the rest of the kiddies do not some down with them. Diana would be a busy gal. Just a gentle reminder to every one reading the column, Feb. 14, is Valentine's day so all the wives and hubbies can get all their cards and little gifts ready for the big day. Best wishes for a speedy recovery go to Dorothy Rose who was confined to the McHenry hospital last week with a blood clot in the leg which was very painful. Dorothy has been a Nurse's Aide at the McHenry hospital for years. Gene and Joyce Heir enjoyed an evening of playing cards last Saturday with Richie and Dorothy Orlowski, Dorothy served some delicious snacks and luncheon. It pays to have a Wrd feeder or to throw bread crumbs out for the birds, I have been enjoying the cardinals, snowbirds and some I can not ideniify that come everyday to feed on seeds and bread They are very interesting creatures to watch and it is a small price to pay for all the enjoyment it give» me to see such colorful birds. Just a last reminder to all the men in the Highlands who are members of St.. John's church. The reception of new members in the Holy Name Society ano the regular meeting will be held on Sunday evening, Feb. 10. Father Ray Hettermann, a native of the parish and assistant Holy Name Director for the Diocese, will conduct the reception so maybe this reminder will bring in many new members from OUT community. Mount Hope Church Notes Preparations are being made for a Confirmation class to be held within the next three weeks. A definite date will be posted later. Any child who is in the Confirmation age group who is interested in the class may call Reverend Smith for all the details. Jan. 29, Hazel Rogde, Dec- Gregg, Delores Oakly, Glenda Wieck, Reverend Smith and his wife, Florence, attended the Evangalism Work Shop, sponsored by the Church in^Villa Park. It was a most educational and enjoyable evening for all who attended. Feb. 10, the Mount Hope church will hold Scout Sunday and Reverend Smith is hopeful that many Scouts will participate in the services on this day the church honors all Scouts. The coat racks have been completed for the church meeting hall and it is hoped they will be installed soon. This takes care of a great need to complete the meeting hall. Reverend Smith reurned to h|s classes in DeKalb this week after4 enjoying a few days vacation due to semester change over, so it is back to the books and learning for Reverend Smith. "Around The Highlands" Jeanne Hillstrom is home from the hospital feeling weak but loads better after her battle with pneumonia. Dickie Morley spent a miserable weekend last week with a bad cold and croup. He missed a day of school and was happy to be back in school on Tuesday.
