For an enlightening slant on this nation's relations abroad, the PTA meeting offers a refreshing opportunity tor residents to consider the opinions that will be expressed. ANN VAKESi; Among the professionals appearing in this rollicking show are Ann Varese, who stars as Rose. This part was played on Broadway by Chita Rivera and in this community Ann's generosity-with her great talent has shown all that her ability can match any Broadway personality of our day. Not only is Ann starring in "Bye-Bye Birdie" but she is also producing and directing it. At the present time, she is busy casting the show which has approximately thirty-five speaking, singing and dancing parts. Many 'teen-agers will take part in this show, giving an artistic outlet to many talented young people. Co-starring with Ann will be Ron Burton, as Albert, played by Dick Van Dyke in tbe Broadway cast. Ron has ^pent several years in the entertainment world, now resides in Des Plaines and is in business in MeHenry. He is a vocal comedy and piano stylist, having appeared on the Arlene Francis television show in New York as well as being featured in most of the top fupper club rooms across the country. The story of "Bye-Bye Birdie" is a spoof on Elvis Presley's induction into the Army and will star Bert Kissling as Conrad Birdie. Bert is drum major for our MeHenry high school band, has ?»tven many performances with his family for local organizations, and will be appearing on the television show, "It's Academic" in the near future. Local Women Aid In Channel 11 Campaign The names of local residents who will serve , as chairmen for WTTW-Channel lfs annual community campaign for funds, to be conducted Airing Educational Television Week, March 10 to 18, were announced this week. Chairmen in charge of recruiting workers and organizing drives in their residential areas are Mrs. Walter Swanson, Route 1 .MeHenry, chairman for Island Lake; Mrs. Raymond Dahl, Route 1, Spring Grove, chairman for Spring Grove. Channel ll's budget for 1963- 64 is $1,100,000. The community fund drive, however, is seeking only $250,000. The remainder of necessary operatini; funds, the station expects to bring in through its own efforts. OSftlTAl flotiu King Addresses County Council Jefferson grade school in Harvard was host to the MeHenry County Council of Parents and Teachers association recently. Harvard has long been active in PTA and Council work, and V. David Fredrick, grade school principal, commended the fine parent-teacher relationship. Mrs. Fran Kirchoff, Harvard PTA president, introduced Floyd E. King, superintendent, who gave information on the schools of that city, and their functions. The main portion of the meeting was a round table discussion on membership, magazine, programs, fund raising and fund dispersment. SALES INCREASE Modine Manufacturing company sales and earnings for the third fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31 showed appreciable improvement over the average performance of the first six months. Third quarter sales were $8,- 454,000 compared with $8,268,- 000 and $6,542,000 for the first and second quarters respectively. Commenting on the third quarter earnings improvement, Modine President A. G. Dixon said "This is indicative of partial maturing, in production terms, of several newly introduced radiator models."
