Coach Fulton has always liked a good spread of scoring over his lineup and has been getting his way of late. Qf course, the players have been passing scoring honors around in good shape. They seem to tdke tuttift. It took a lot of doinft to get a right combination working this year, but the team has started to jell into a respected foe in the North Suburban loop. Beating Libertyville by one point, Crystal Lake by two, then losing to Dundee by two points has given the followers all the heart< palpitation they -can take. The big test comes Friday night against the Palatine five and their big center, Kozlicki, who is regarded as a strong candidate for All-State honors. WARRIORS WIN BREATH TAKER FROM TIGERS Rourke's Long Shot In Last Second Nips Crystal Lake 54-52 A 26 foot jump shot by Johi. Rourke with 2 seconds remaining in the game enabled the McHenry Warriors to beat Fran Wagner's visiting Tigers, from Crystal Lake last Friday night by the score of 54 to 52. The winning shot was set up from out of bounds with five seconds remaining in the game. The Tigers were a determined group from the opening whistle. They jumped off to an 18-15 first quarter lead, mainly on the strength of their excellent outside shooting. They added to their margin during the second period as they outgunned the Warriors 11-8 in n very exciting period. For the second successive week the Orange and Black fought back doggedly during the second half, consistently cutting down the Crystal Laki lead. At the end of three periods the Warriors were behind 44-40. The McHenry attack during the third period was led by Joe Fino, who tallied 10 of the Warriors 17 points scored in the period. Fino waf the Warrior hi;;h scorer for the game with 20 points, and he rebounded very effectively during the whole game. The Warriors, who shot 1 for 7, from the free throw line during the first half hit on all 5 attempts from the charity stripe in the second half. Pete Schenk, sharp-shooting Crystal Lake guard, was the game's high scorer with 22 points. The Warrior win moved them ahead of Woodstock in the conference standings. In the soph preliminary, the underclass Warriors beat the fledgling Tigers 55-45. Gary Lock wood led the soph attack with 17 point & and played his finest game of the season. Rich Soda added 11 points and Len Laurence 10 points X& the Warrior final total. In their last meeting in December the two battled to the final horn before Palatine was able to win on a gold with 3 seconds left in the game by the score of 49-48. Palatine is led by 6 foot-7 inch all-state candidate, Ron Kozlicki, who last weekend scored 70 points in two games, and in the process established a new conference individual scoring record. The Warriors have been working overtime in practice session in an ^ffort to upset the Pirates and prevent them from going undefeated in conference play. An interesting note is Palatine has never won on the McHenry floor since its entry into the conference four years ago. Coach Fulton has indicated e few surprises await the Kolze coached crew. Riverside Drive McHenry NEXT WEEK: "GYPSY" Dundee Edges 2-Pointer From McHenry, 57-55 For the second successive night Coach Cliff Fulton's McHenry Warriors were engaged in a game that went down to the wire before being decided by two points. Only in this one, the Warriors were not victorious. The Dundee Cardinals beat M.C.H.S. Saturday night at Dundee by a score of 57-55 in a very well played, exciting g&me from start to finish. The Warriors were an aggressive quintet against the much taller lads of Coach John Paul, and persistently stayed on the heels of the Cards all evening. Dick Kozuch, rugged Dundee forward was the difference in the game. The big senior scored 27 points under the handicap of an eye injury received at Libertyville Friday night. Kozuch's eye injury required eight stitches on the eye ball. The local lads were behind at half-time 34-28 but excellent offensive work coupled with alert defensive play put the Warriors ahead by the start of the final period 40-39. The Warriors were outscored in the final stanza which gave Dundee the edge it needed for the victory. Kozuch scored 8 of his game high total in the final period. Ted Freund was the Warrior high scorer with 19 points. Ted was hitting fantastically from deep in the left corner. Lloyd Smith followed Freurfti with 11 markers, and Joe Fino again played excellently. The McHenry Sophs avenged one of their 2 losses by beating the highly regarded Dundee underclassmen 50-37: The Orange and Black led throughout and during the final stages of the game made it a rout. Ken Laurence led a well rounded attack with 14 points, ably assisted by Soda and Bentz who had 11 each. Wayne Hiller had 8 points and kept the team together against the Dundee pressure defense in the second half. Thumbing through some of the latest gun books we noticed that many new models will be on the market in '63. Remington has come up with an auto-loading shotgun that is supposed to have up to 40 per cent less recoil than other automatics. It is called the Model 1100 and should be available soon. At last! Winchester is going' to market a single-trigger over and under shotgun that thr average gunner can afford. Dakin, a name rapidly gaining popularity, and handled by the Simmons Co. in this country, is manufacturing a model called "Quails Fargo" this year. The gun is straight stocked, available in 12 and 20 guage, and its side by side barrels are 22 inches long. A faster handling field gun will be hard to find. Most novel, is thfe "Four- Tenner" kit by Savage. It is an inner barrel that can be slipped into any break-action single or double barrelled 12 guage gun to convert it to a .410 guage. We can recall a kit to convert from .410 to .22, but never one like this. It should prove interesting and useful to many. The McHenry Sportsman's Club will hold its monthly meeting Mon. Feb. 11. Practice shooting on the club's illuminated trap field will be from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. McHenry Coachmen The meeting opened with a short discussion on our safetyprogram. Little could be said due to the fact we are still not sure if we can use St. Mary's gym. We made plans to contact the different clubs in town as soon as we are positive we have the use of the gym. Our main topic was our coming rod & custom show. We are planine: on renting Blake's Garage on highway 120, east of McHenry and the show is to be held sometime in July. The problem of classification was set and agreed upon by members. The second problem was the trophies. We decided upon two lor each class and one for the best all-around. Trophies will be given out at 3:00p.m., the Sunday afternoon, on the date we diecide upon. The show time and date will, be settled at next wefek's meeting. Anyone who has a car which they wish to enter may contact, Jim Thompson, Jack Smith, Dick Rodner or Henry (Hank) Miller. Anyone wishing to join our club may contact the same people.
