The two men have been living in the small town (approx. 200 pop.) of Tok, Alaska, located about 200 miles from Fairbanks. They are currently engaged in building their own home there. The third "member" of their family is "Dutch," Dick's black Labrador retriever, who had to remain behind in care of the vet. Dick is employed as a carpenter when the weaLher permits. He has done work on the Tok resort lodge and ' elped to build an addition to the school in that town, so the population must be growing! For those who haven't seen Dick, he is not sporting the bright red beard he adopted some years ago when first he chose the forty-ninth state for his home. More details about the men and life in Alaska next week. Because of Dick's surprise visit, friends from Chicago were hastily summoned and they congregated at the Osterbys for Sunday dinner. Included were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomsen, Sr., -and daughter, Pat, the junior Thomsens and children, Mr. and Mrs. 'Johnny" Johnsen, and Kathy and Jack Osterby. They were sixteen who sat down at the festive board which featured caribou steak. How's that for a menu? All of the piscatorial delights were consumed down south. The only one with no luck was Betty. It was a delightful journey for them and they are back in time to enjoy our nice weather. MEET FEBRUARY 25 West Coast Jaunters Betty Hettermann Celebrate Silver Anniversary In Florida It was 25 years wed for Betty and Nick Tabor on Feb. 9 and they marked the occasion with festivities in Florida. They returned home last Sunday after three weeks in Englewood. The" two met and were wed in Chicago on Feb. 9, 1|38, attended by Betty's sister, Dorothy, and her boyfriend (now husband) Herman Bock. It was a small home ceremony. The couple lived in Chicago until 1950 when they purchased their home on Lakewood Road, McCullom Lake. Although their two girls, Diane Horn and Ruth Suchy, were born in the city, they received the major portion of their education in the local schools. Diane is the mother of e daughter, Conny, while Ruth's youngster is Timmy and another due next month. Which makes almost three grandchildren for the Tabors. Nick works as a carpenter foreman for a local businessman while Betty works parttime in McHenry. For the occasion Of their silvt i 1 'lag anniversary, Breaks All Records! Clayt Nelson is a proud fisherman and deseryedly so, since he broke the record for deep sea fishing during his and Elsie's recent three week jaunt to Florida. While out in the Atlantic ocean, about 15 miles east of Stuart, Clayt snagged a 51 pound!! amberjack. He thought that was the end of the story until others told him his name had been broadcast over the airwaves in connection with his prize. The captain of his boat entered Clayt's catch in the fish derby which runs from Jan. 1, until April 1. If no other fishermen top his record, he will be proclaimed the winner and will be so notified. If he does win, you can look for his picture and accompanying story some time in April. One of the members of the crew took pictures. Elsie is in line for congrats for her piscatorial conquests by landing an 8-9- pound king mackerel. The two had a marvelous 10 day visit with former residents --Lena and Fred Eckhardt in Tampa and then on to St. Petersburg where they visited with more former residents the George Goransons. Caroline's mother, Mrs. Betty Erickson, is in fine fettle in spite of her some 88 years and sends greet ings to all old friends in the area. The senior Nelsons returned home Saturday, much refresh ed by the break in the old routine. Tanned And Healthy Jean and Hugh McDonald and son, Ed, returned last Thursday morning from their 3 week jaunt to Miami, Fla., considerably darker than when they departed. Jean purchased a swim suit and indulged in salt water swimming. The three were considerably jolted when they arose one morning and gazed upon the ugly sight of a huge sea turtle in their swimming pool. Some jokester thought of it as a good prank. Needless to say, the denizen of the deep was removed before the bathers would venture into the waters! The McDonalds and Ed were thrilled with a visit from Sid Lil and Hal Michels, Bud Michels and Cynthia Rourke planed to the west coast two weeks ago. Cynthia returned home after one week, while the three Michels arrived this past weekend. The four were entertained at the home of Mrs. Milly B. Braydon and her husband, Jim, and they were impressed with the lavish "diggings." Reason for the journey was the greenskeeper convention which was held in Pain Springs. They also journeyed to San Diego. While in Palm Springs, the Michels group saw many film notables including the fabulous Gabor sisters--Zsa Zsa and Eva, and the still gramorous mother--Jolie. Other stars they saw were Charley Farrell, John Weismuller, Jack Kelly, Phil Harris, Robert (The Untouchables) Stack and Pat Buttram. They were hoping to see former president Eisenhower, but he Was not avail-^ able. The three visited Disneyland for two days and were unhappy not to have the children along to share their glee. Knott's Berry Farm was also on the agenda. They engaged in their favorite sport and played on the links at Bermuda Dunes, El Dorado, the Thunderbird, Indian Wells and La Quinta. Imagine Lil's thrill when she went swimming at the Riviera in Palm Springs with eighteen surgeons--all men! During their two weeks, the Michels group rented a car and travelled some 1140 miles. In their absence, the eight children of Lil and Hal received excellent care from the' two grandmothers, Mary Lekawitch and Mrs. Charles Michels of Johnsburg. They had their hands full including the care of a new infant and could have used another pair of hands! It was a fabulous trip and one which all three Michels and Cynthia won't soon forget. The young people V attend the McHenry and Woodstock high school. They joined in playing various fun games and did an awful lot of dancing to the latest "platters" Sandy was the recipient of so many very lovely gifts. On Monday evening Feb. 25, the officers and members of St. John's Home and School association will hold their monthly meeting in the community club hall. This jneeting will begin as usual at 8 p.m. All members are cordially invided to participate on this evening. Sewing Guild Meets" The home of Lillian Cox in McHenry was the recent meeting place of the Pink Ladies Sewing Guild to the McHenry hospital. The usual business meeting preceded some most enjoyable games. A dessert luncheon was served by the hostess. Mae Saiedek was a guest for the afternoon. Agnes Koman and Nel Bergener were the Johnsburg members in attendance. Next month's meeting will be held in Pistakee Highlands. A hidden auction is planned for April. We all join in wishing Mrs. Roberts a speedy recovery Girl Scout News Troop 408 have been real busy these past two weeks so I hear from Diane oefling, tropp scribe. She reports that on Feb. 6, Joyce Sherman provided the refreshments and a new game. These Scouts have planned a hike to the V.F.W. on March 9. The flag ceremony was under the direction of Barbara Deidrich, Bonnie Oefling, Karen Shastal and Sandy Meyers. At this meeting the Scouts started to work on some hioccasins. On Feb. 13, the girls cut the leather for the moccasins and for a small change purse. They hope to finish up at the next meeting Greta Martin brought a cake to share with the troop in observance of her fourteenth birthday. Thomas' church at 12 noon last Saturday. Later in the evening many of the young couples, relatives and friends were on hand to extend their congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Freund. She is the daughter of Mrs. Thomas Rooney df Crystal Lake and his parents are the Fred Freunds of Spring Grove Road. Our sincere best wishes to the newlyweds for a most happy future. Victim of Complete Surprise Sandy Hettermann who turned seventeen on Feb. 11, was completely surprised by some thirty friends for a birthday celebration. The party took place in the Hettermann home. Word From Burn Victim A call from Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, found Mrs. Monica Morris on the other end of the wire. She reports she is ecstatic to be a spMient there ajid is much happier being so much closer to home. She is not certain at this time whether skin grafting will be necessary but it is more than likely probable. She will be hospitalized for quite some time so keep those cards flowing. She sounded very cheerful, which we are most happy to report. Orchid "Occasions Gertrude Loeschel is eligible for birthday congrats tomorrow, Feb. 22....There will be six candles on the cake fo. Someenjoyable entertainment followed the supper. The wedding took place at St. Hello to Some! Goodbye to Others! We bid farewell to Chuck and Pam Hiller and daughter, Stephanie, for awhile once again.
