The rescue squad came to his aid and took him by ambulance to St. Therese hospital for treatment and X-Rays to determine the extent of his injuries. I do hope they r/ere not too serious and he will be home soon. I miss his cheery greeting everyday at the mailbox. All the neighbors send their best wishes for a speedy recovery. freshments were served and friends and neighbors enjoyed chatting over cake and coffee, Daniel Johnson always works very hard to make these meetings the success they are. Since this was a non partison meeting several parties were represented. The speakers were Charles Brown, candidate for supervisor to fill the vacancy created when JLeRoy Smith became postmaster, Theresa Schuitz and Aiberi Auums, candidates for assistant supervisor, and Clarence Regnei candidate for road commissioner. The proposed bond issues were discussed at length. Let's all exercise our freedom to vote and get out and yote April 2» Bhe Monday Made Bright For Your Reporter Last Monday was a very blue and depressing day for me until a citizen of the Highlands called to tell me how much she appreciated the article about her in the column. It was such a switch from the other kind of calls I get. It made the rest of the day real sunny. It made me feel warm to think some one was kind enough to take the time to call me and thank me. That one call made writing the column seen worth while. So much thanks to you Lillian Bores. Woman's Club N At the Feb. 27, meeting all the members were asked to take at least two pads to make for the Cancer society. The response was overwhelming. The women were very cooperative and by the end of March there will be many pads prepared. Each woman is asked to take two tickets to sell for the fashion show March 27, 8 o'clock. This yill be an open meeting and a very interesting and informative one. The husbands and teenagers have been extended invitations to attend. A cancer film entitled, "Is Smoking Worth It?." Will start PROMPTLY at 8 p.m. Since this is such a worth while film it is hoped the hall will be filled and if this film can save just one person from cancer of the lungs it will have been worth all the efforts of the officers in securing it. So any one may attend this meeting and you are most welcome. Since a lot of work by the officers have gone in to the preparations for the coming fashion show let's get busy and sell a lot of tickets, since the proceeds will be used for charity. Mount Hope Church Notes March 20, 7:30 p.m. Reverend Smith's sermon will be entitled, ,'THE UNWANTED TAP." Scripture Reading: Mark 15: 16-27. "And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by....the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear His cross." The W.S.C.S. members are busy making preparations for the spaghetti dinner to be held March 30. It is hoped this will be a well attended affair since the church needs so many things. Attend Holy Name Meeting Many members of the Highlands attended, the Holy Name society meeting March 7. Special Democratic Meeting A special meeting of the Pistakee regular Democratic organization was held Friday, March 8, at 8 p.m. in the Community center. It was a "meet your candidate" night for the April 2, election. There was quite a large turn out and everyone listened very attentively to all the speeches. Re Nominating Committee Completed The nominating committee for the Woman's club has been finally completed with three members chosen: Teena O'Mally, Audrey Misavice, and Kay Reilly. They will soon be calling all members seeking women to run for offices of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. Let's hope some new ones will run for office. It can be fun and very rewarding to hold an office so when one of these girls calls on you give it a lot of thought. Pete's Auto Tips "News Of Your Friends And Neighbors" To all the Irish folks in the Highlands, I extend greetings to you all on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. Happy wearing of the green. March 2, Richie and Dorothy Orlowski helped Dorothy's sister, Ruth Rathnow, celebrate her birthday. The Rathnows live in Ingleside. Asian flu has really struck the Highlands and many of the residents have been very ill and confined to bed for a week or more. Some of them are: Lil Orlowski, Lillian Bures, Victor Rockel, Bill Schlick and Barb Sisk. Hope you are all feeling much better by now. Floyd and Vi Johnson returned home March 10, after a five weeks business and pleasure trip which took them to the East coast, sight seeing in New York, historical placcs in Massachusettes, the Southeast section of the country. They spent a week at Vf's mother's home in Pompano Beach Fla., Where the Pechouses make their home. They enjoyed yachting trips and much sight seeing. They came home filled with all the wonders of our great America. It was a trip they will not soon forget and it is too bad they had to come back to such weather. Agnes Wroblewski spent four days in Chicago last weekend with her sister, Pearl. While there they celebrated Pearl's birthday. The two sisters visited other sisters, a brother and friends. Last Saturday ..evening Janet Wilson gave a party for her friend A1 who left for a hitch in the Navy. They gave him a good send off and he left with a warm feeling for all his friends. Jack and Connie Zanin. Richie and Dorothy Orlowski spent last Sunday in Chicago where they attended the Boat Show and enjoyed having din ner in the city. The March 2, weekend, Martin and Hazel Rogde visited Hazel's mother in DeKalb. She is very seriously ill and the Rogdes make as many trips as they can to see her. Last Saturday Tommy Morin came down with the mumps. His grand parents, the Morins from Chicago, came out over the weekend to visit with Tom my and the family. Laura Farwell was home from school a few days last week with a very sore throat and severe cold and spent a few days in bed. Happy birthday to Dale Morin who Will reach the ripe old age of five years, March 19. If the Mumps are gone he may have a party. March 23, the Teen Club will hold a bowling party, more details will appear in a later column for the benefit of the members. ) The Tuesday evening fun night at the Cuuiiiiuriiiy center will be discontinued until after Easter in hopes it will bring more folks out and by then we are hoping for good weather. Haze Morely went back to work at the shop this week. The mumps have finally left for good and she will be back tt the old grind. The hostesses for the March 12 W.S.C.S. meeting were Delores Oakley and Marilyn VanZevern (George). The meeting will start at 12:30 p.m. They will try to present a film entitled "This Is Christian Social Relations." Dee Bishoff was complemented for the wonderful job she did in managing the pot-luck dinner in honor of Doctor and Mrs. Amos Thornburg. The dinner was a big success and well attended. The executive committee will be called about the March meeting, when and where it is to be held, Glenda Wieck will give each member a call. Every one is happy tbout the new street lights being installed. So far three have been put in to use, one at the dangerous corner of Ringwood and Wilmot Road at the little chapel, one on the corner hear the little store on Lake and Ringwood Road and one ort the corner of Broadway and Fox Lake Road. It sure is a Wonderful and much needed improvement and one we are all grateful for. Marie Schlick is another victim of the flu and is spending a few days in bed. It was rough since both she and Bill were ill at the same time so we hope they are both an their feet by now. Doctor Lee Gladstone has consented to speak at the Woman's club March 27, in connection with the filin oh smoking and cancer. March 8, Betty Crofcdale entered the McHenry hospital for thyroid surgery and will be there five days. Good luck Betty and best wishes. Frances Brott, one d our very actlye senior . citizens, spent a couple of weeks in Chicago visiting with her family. She helped celebrate her granddaughter's twentyfirst birthday March 3. Since she may have to spend a little time there, I know one thing that will make the time seem snorter and put some sparkle in those beautiful eyes of hers. CARDS -- CARDS -- and more cards. Association NeW» Due to the lack of a quorum the regular monthly meeting of the P.H.A. could not be held according to the by-laws. Several Candidates for office in the coming election spent an hour or so in discussions and answering questions,each candidate was most cooperative, Mr. Meyers, of Chain of Lakes flood control, aslted every citizen's aid in stopping floods and water damages. Walter Dean, supervisor candidate, Clarence Regner and "Chuck" Miller, highway commissioner candidates, candidates for assistant supervisors Tom Huemann, Theresa Schuitz, Albert Adams and Edward Buss were present. Refreshments were served and th candidates mingled with the residents discussing various issues. Vehicle Stickers Availadlfe Each car in the area should have a vehicle sticker on it. Residents of Holiday Hills should carry a Nunda township sticker. It has been called to my attention that the sheriff will be more strict about cars being tagged. These stickers are available free of charge at the home of Lorraine Bemis. You may stop at the Bemis home at 2406 S. Holiday Drive or pick it up from Lorraine at the next association meeting or Woman's club meeting. Those of you who work in the city will find that these stickers will save you some questioning where local stickers are required. tod Joseph Landis and John Hale came away with top honors in cornet. Johnny Hale, who has made •ews before with his cornet, •cored a perfect 7 in his solo. Which is the highest score you £an receive and took a first place in his duet, with Michael Sobacki. From here he Will go on to enter state competition in April. Nice going boys, keep up the fine work Now for some news on the girls. Three of our gals have been very busy lately, two of the older gals and one wee little one. I'm sure you've all read about the sensational record that St. Mary's basketball team racked up this year taking four first place trophies, one third place and ending up with the second place trophy in Rockford diocesan competition. Well, we feel that part of this credit is due to the enthusiastic support and cheering of their cheerleaders and mascot. Linda Abbink was co-captain of the cheerleaders, Nancy Oik a cheerleader and little Judy Abbink the mascot, who even helped accept the trophy. These gals, along with Vi and Bill Abbink who have chaperoned on several Occasions have had a busy and Sympathy 6ur sincere sympathy is extended to Earl Krueger and his family on the death of his father who died on Saturday, March 1. News On Our Young People On Saturday, March 2, thirty-seven young people from McHenry junior high traveled to Round Lake for an annual district solo and ensemble con test for instrumentalists. Three of these young people came from Holiday Hills, all of them walking off with honors. Ray mohd Mettelka took a second place in a clarinet ensemble nutking plaster mold from start to finish at the show. The leaders hope many parents and other interested folks will attend this big affair. When the Scouts knock on your door to ask you to buy tickets for this big event please help them. March 2, fourteen boys and some fathers spent the afternoon at Lake Bluff tobogganing. It was a great treat for both boys and fathers. very thrilling season, and are a little sorry to see it come to an end. They're all for basketball all year round, especially if their team wins.
