PEARSON LISTS CURRENT BILLS ENTERED I have had a great deal- of response concerning the bills that are now before the legislature and I would like to say that I hope the people will bear with me as I will answer each letter as soon as possible. The following bills are up for consideration at this time: H. B. 647 - Prohibits delivery of assistance or general assistance checks to any point outside Illinois. H. B. 664 - Authorizes townships to make special assessments to improve roads and streets in platted subdivisions where such roads or streets are not part of the township road system. H. B. 670 - Makes appointment of assistant county superintendent of schools, subject to the approval of the county board. H. B, 704 - Permits a school district operating a junior college on the effective date to levy additional taxes for educational purposes and for building purposes. Provides for referendum upon petition after levy is made for the first time. H. B. 726 - Repeals provisions for county clerk to issue liquor purchase.identification cards. H. B. 737 - Provides that bicycles shall be equipped with a front and rear light enuring the '$&rit^fr&ib rise. H. B. 739 - Provides that at the beginning of the first class each school day in all elementary schools, the pupils in sucn class shall recite a pledge of allegiance to the United States and the flag. H. B. 772 -sErovides that the purchase of property to be transfered by the purchaser to persons acquiring the property in the course of redeeming trading stamps shall be subject to the tax. H. B. 784 - Appropriates $10.- 000,000 to the Superintendem of Public Instruction for distribution to school districts for junior college building purposes. Appropriates $30,000 to cover administrative costs. H. B. 790 - Provides for humane procedures in slaughtering animals. Prohibits use of manually operated ham mers, sledges and pole axes. Provides penalties. Mrs. Weichmann presented a ten-year membership pin to Margaret Mikota. Community Service Chairman Lois McCormick asked for volunteers to visit the Valley Hi Nursing home in May. This is a once-a-year project and is very rewarding to anyone who is able to attend. Eleanore Reid, Americanism chairman, gave a detailed report on the Patriotic conference held in Chicago and thanked the unit f6r the privilege of attending. Mrs. Reid also announced the winners of the essay contest and will try to have them present at our May meeting. Coupon Chairman Marge Pickett has turned in 2,179 coupons this year. The deadline is May 3 and we urge all those who have coupons to turn them in as soon as possible. The total veterans craft sales this year is now $433, reported chairman Edie Meyers. Please remember the veterans craft when you need a gift. Veterans craft is on display at the American Legion home at all times. Right now the veterans are in need of carpet rags and old nylons, if you have any to donate. A citation was received from the Department of Illinois for our contribution to the "Gifts for Hospitalized Veterans" campaign. The tea scheduled for the county junior auxiliary was canceled because of conflicting commiiments. Guest Sandra Lock was introduced to the members and birthday congratulations were extended to Helen Schmitt, Janice Bauspies and Pearl Cooper. Louise Bergquist's was selected for the attendance prize but she was not present. Ercell Lock and Edie Meyers received the special prize. Refreshments were served by Lois McCormack and her committee. Instructor Jay Osman gave a brief talk on eligibility for joining the Vi-Kettes. All members of the Viscount senior color guard must first serve in the Vi-Kettes. The age limit for the junior color guard is 10 years old. There is a long waiting list at present but anyone interested in more detailed information may contact Mrs. Edwin Reid. Please send your TV ballots to me as soon as possible so I will be able to turn them over to the department TV chairman. MILK PRICES Dairy farmers who shipped milk to Chicago Order 30 handlers in March will be paid a minimum of $3.64 per cwt. on base milk, with a 22-cent superpool included, and $3.02 per cwt. on excess milk, Harry L. Edwards, director of marketing for Pure Milk association, has reported. The uniform order prices announced for producer milk under Order 30 in March were $3.42 for base milk and $3.02 for excess milk. The $3.64 base price is 18 cents lower than the March, 1962, base price.
