To all the mothers in the Highlands I extend greetings for the most wonderful day you ever enjoyed. I wish my mom a happy day, and to let her know that everyday as far as she is concerned is Mother's Day and I am sure I am expressing r^y sentiments for all the Highlanders on this special day. If you are far away from your mother call her. If she lives close enough to pay her a visit I am sure she would be happy to have her children with her. Sympathy To Larry Hevseth I Wish to express the deepest sympathy to Larry and Lily Hovseth on the recent death of Larry's mother, Mrs. Mary Ellen Thompson, who was laid to rest April 29, with a Mabg at St. John's church. St. John's Church Notet Blessed Virgin Sodality meeting will be held May 14, at the Johnsburg community center at 8 p.m. First Communicants made a lovely picture as they came down the aisle to receive their First Holy Communion, May 5, at the 8:30 Mass. All the parents and relatives were on hand for this special day. Pack 4S2 Notes Committee meimbers of Cub Seout Pack 452 held their regular monthly meeting May 1. Plans including those for refreshments and games were made for the adult social evening to be held May 18, all parents of present or future Scouts are welcome to attend. This meeting is being held for the purpose of reorganizing the Scouts for next September when the regular programs will again be in progress following the summer semi adjournment. We urge all parents to attend this important meeting May 18, 8 p.m. at the Mount Hope church. The date for the Cub Scout airport tour has been tentatively set for May 25. Den mothers will be notified of definite plans. A different monthly activity has been scheduled for June through August. The first of these will be a fishing derby to be held June 11. Bamboo poles only please. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest and most fish. Bait and charcoal will be furnished, so plan OR bringing hotdogs and all the trimmings for the. family. Full details on this matter and other summer plajjs will be made available to all Cub Scouts. Moont Hope Notes Sunday, May 5, Wayne Sampson District Executive of the Kiswaukee district presented the Boy Scout and Cub Scout Pack charters to Rev. Smith at the 11 o'clock services. John Alan and William Perschke, Sheree Janquart, Shirley Spankueh and Gary Krispin attended the M.Y.F. Elgin district rally in Barrington, May 5. The M.Y.F. are making planb for a guest dinner to be held this month, as soon as plans are completed and the date set. It will be in the column so all members may make plans to attend. The W.S.C.S. voted to use the proceeds from their recent spaghetti dinner to buy acoustical ceiling tile for the meeting hall and Sunday school classes. This will add much to the church. If any one has toys, little tables or chairs they can no longer use they are needed very badly for nursery and Sunday school you may contact Sally Jo VonBmenchenheim at Hyatt 7-3365. It's A Girl Congratulations to Robert and Jerry Glueck of 801 W. Annabelle on the birth of a baby daughter born at the McHenry hospital, April 28. The baby weighed 8 lb. 9 oz. They have named the baby Gail and she has five brothers and sisters to keep her company. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Congratulations to Richie and Dorothy Orlowski who celebrated their twenty-third wedding anniversary Saturday, May 4. They enjoyed an evening of dancing and being with relatives and friends. Sally Jo VonBruenchenhekn was hostess for a demonstration in her home April 30. Many of her neighbors and relatives were on hand for an evening of fun. All the friends and neighbors Of Hazel Rodge join me in wishing her the happiest birthday she ever had, Hazel will be celebrating her birthday May 15. Congratulations go to Chester and Terry Oziminski who add another year to their mmriage on May 14. The evening of April 29, was a sleepless one for many of the Highlanders due to the high winds. Many horfS&s had shingles blown off and much wind damage was done. We are thankful it wasn't worse. We all were very busy early Tuesday morning, running like mad covering all the rose bushes, the snow was not a welcome sight. I join with all the Highlanders who are members of St. John's parish in offering congratulations to Rev. Father A. H. Weideman who celebrated his eighth year of priesthood, May 3. We wish you a long, healthful and full life in your s«!rvice to God and mah. May 10, Dick and Haze Morley and Lee and Harriette Marshall will enjoy a fish fry in Crystal Lake a meal they all enjoy very much. We are very sorry to report that Mrs. Schmitt has sold her home an Sunset and will be moving back to Chicago. Her daughter and family will be moving with her and they will live on the north side. We hope you will remember all of us out here. The April 30 fun night at the community center was very well attended and it looked very promising. This is the first one X have attended and it was a very pleasant evening. If you haven't attended a fun night give it a try. Roy and Gert Snell returned to their home last week after enjoying a few weeks in Oaklawn, where they just sat back, relaxed, and entertained old friends and relatives. It is nioe to have the Snells back with us and glad they are looking so well. May 5, Forrest and Grace Reinhardt attended their long time friends' silver wedding anniversary dinner and dancing at a Country club in Itasca. Walter and Jene Cebelin, the couple celebrating their anniversary, were very surprised since it had been a carefully guarded surprise party The Reinhardts are looking forward to their silver anniversary which will be coming up this summer. We can only wish the same nice things for them. There are times when it is very hard to be a reporter and I am afraid this is one of the times. All the friends and neighbors of Harold and Beverely Bichler express their deepest sympathy to this wonderful couple on the death of their baby son, who died shortly after birth. There are no words that can comfort them but. maybe knowing that so many of us are standing by ready to help them over this difficult time with lessen the sorrow a little. And knowing you have a Little Angel in heaven will comfort you very much. Ron and Pat Jackson enjoyed a day in Chicago with Pat's brother and sister-in-law and family. Don Morin had his tonsils removed at the McHenry hospital May 3. His wife, Audrey, stood by to give Don moral support, Don's parents came to spend the weekend and add their support. Dick Fbrwell is enjoying a week's vacation this week and is spending it puttering around and relaxing. May 1, Gloria Reinhardt was hostess to several of her former McHenry high school chums They had a. ball rehashing the fun they, had in school and catching up on all the exciting things that have happened since. Gloria served a delicious buffet lunch. Jeff Novotny celebrated his ninth birthday April 75, with a few of his chums who enjoyed a delicious lunch and a show afterwards. Bobby Hurkes reached the ripe old age of 12, April 29, and he received many nice gifts and birthday greetings. Orchids to Floyd Johnson and his boat and pier committee. The boat docks are beginning to look so neat and clean, Floyd is most happy with all the whole hearted cooperation everyone is showing in getting the work done. All the piere have been staked out and some have been moved. Soon it will be completed and everyone is happy Floyd headed the committee. Janice Janquatt and her family were very happy to have Janice's parents, the Schwartzes of Milwaukee, spend last weekend with them. Many of the Highlander parents enjoyed the spring dance held at the Johnsburg school. May 3. The young folks did all the planning, decorating for the affair and all the parents who attend- 1 ed were rightfully proud of their efforts. This is a big event every year for the children and parents. May 6, Mr. Kane presented the awards to the Boy Scouts at the family night affair. The boys are proud of these awards and work very hard towards receiving them and are proud to show their skills to all the interested parents who attend these family nights. Fourteen members of the Pink Ladies Sewing Guild of the auxiliary of the McHenry hospital Enjoyed a delicious Italian luncheon in Ingleside. After the luncheon the girls sang happy birthday to Lilah Jordon and Mildred Kennedy. The gals from the Highlands who were on hand for the treat were Gert Snell, Marge Moreth and Lorraine Lindemann. Gary Morley was home from school last week with a sore throat and earache, Gary is my little buddie, who comes over to help me pick up stones and shovel dirt, so I miss him when I do not see him around always nice to have a little helper. / In closing I woui(j/like to ask all the folks \tfho call in their news to me every week, to please call Hazel Morley, Hyatt 7-3320, with your news, Please call her with the news from May 16 to May 30, I will be unable to write the column for these two weeks and will appreciate all of you doing this favor for me, I want to thank Haze for taking over for me and hope she will enjoy being back in harness, she will enjoy talking to you all again, and bet you all will enjoy chatting with her too. ANNOUNCE EARLY REGISTRATION AT NEARBY^ SCHOOL Parents of children eligible to enter first grade of Big Hollow grade school for the 1963-64 school years are requested to complete registration on Thursday, May 16, or S^'iday, May 17, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Registration will be in the school office. It is net necessary that the pupil be present, but the parent should have a certificate of birth or some other evidence of the date of birth. Pupils entering first grade must be 6 years of age on or before Dec. 1 this year. This early registration will help in determining arrangement of classes for next year. Any parent unable to register on the dates listed should contact the school by telephone or letter so that the school can anticipate having the child oh the roll.
