ANNUAL ROSE PROMOTION CARDS RfeADY AT STORES Marjr Lob liartOf • The annual cnamber of Commerce rose promotion carets are now being; given out by member establishments. Cards are limited and only 300 have been printed. When these are given out there will be no more for this season. There will be 300 roses - one for each card - at the Four Seasons Shop during the last two weeks in May. Cards may be redeemed at that time. There is a slight change this year in the! procedure. Each merchant has purchased a certain number of cards and will give them out to customers but the cards will not be Interchangeable between the stores* as before. The cards must be completed at the store whose name appears on the card. Other years the cards could be stamped in any member store. Each merchant is responsible for his own cards this year and the cards must be completed in his store. When completed you may present them at_J^e Four Seasons for your rose. More information next week. Nativity Lutheran Churoti New* Next Sunday evening at 7 p.m. the Luther League will meet in the social hall. Penny Ullman will lead the devotions for the meeting, Patricia Hansen will direct the recreation and Kristin? Weisenburger will bring the refreshments. On Monday May 27, at 11 a.m. the spring luncheon of the Seminary Guild will be held at the Maywood campus of the Lutheran School of Theology. Leaves For Springfield Ruth Redman who was recently appointed to the position Of field supervisor of school lunchrooms for north eastern Illinois left Monday for a week's stay in Springfield where she attended a dinner Monday evening honoring Ray Page who is State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The dinner was held at the Leland Hotal in Springfield. For the remainder of the week Mrs. Redman will attend the state c o n v e n t i o n o f R e p u b l i c a n Women as McHenry County Representative. v Visitors To Highland Shores Weekend visitors at the home of Ruth Russell were Peg Gayeski and her sister from Chicago. Mrs. Gayeski is a former Highland Shores resident. First Communion At Christ The King Church One of the most beautiful ceremonies the parishioners of Christ the King church have seen in some time took place last Sunday when forty-five boys and girls made their First Holy Communion. The altars were banked with bouquets of pink and white gladiolus, stftck and carnations. The Communicants looking like miniature brides and grooms made their way slowly toward the altar each carrying a tiny ciborium with a Host in it. The Servite Nuns of the Mantellate Order have been preparing the children for some time for this day. Seventeen guest nuns and ten aspirants to the order were guests of the teachers, and they sung the Mass for the occasion. After Mass - Hedda Bird, M a r g u e r i t e C o t t r e l l , J e a n Ehlen, and Viola and Walterine Rochowicz served n brunch for the visiting nuns in the school hall. In the afternoon they were all guests of the Robert Birds in Wooded Shores where they had a cook-out. Altar And Rosary Sodality News At their regular monthly meeting last Thursday the Altar and Rosary Sodality elected new officers for the coming year. Retiring officers were Delores Wines, president- Marguerite Cottrell, vie' president, Ruth Russell, secretary and Terry Jakubowski, Treasurer. Father Vanderpool was on hand to name the new officers who had been elected for the coming year. Alice Condren, president of the pastpresidents club officiated at the very impressive candle lighting ceremony which installed the following new officers. Lorraine Houda, president - Shirley Doherty, vice-president- Jean Ehlen, secretary - and Marie Shrosbree, treasurer. Mary Lou Hartog was appointed parish reporter replacing Rita Rice. A pot-luck supper was served before the meeting and for those who wanted it-coffee and cake were served after the meeting. Hansen-Mnnke Wedding At Nativity Lutheran Church Michelle Hansen, daughter of the Marius Hansens of South Drive in Wonder Lake, and Robert W. Manke, son of the Martin Mankes of Rt. 3 Woodstock, were married on Saturday afternoon May 4 at Nativity Lutheran church. A reception for 300 guests was held at the V.F.W. in Mc- Hehry in the evening. Bowling League Banquet Another season has ended for the W. L. Business Men'j> bowling league with Freund's Dairy emerging as "Champs" of the season. Lenny Freund, sponsor of the team, received a beautiful sponsor's trophy and each man on the team received an individual trophy. The annual banquet was held in McHenry. New officers who have been clected to serve duri n g t h e c o m i n g s e a s o n were named during the program. Leo Hartog was elected president replacing Paul Marke. Robert Sandgren was named vice-president replacing Edw. O'Brien. "Biul" Detweiler was re-elected to^he post of secretary and "Hank" Moder was named treasurer replacing Elroy Johnson.
