A dinner in his honor was enjoyed, when a gift certificate for an aluminum fishing boat was presented to Mr. Grabe. On Friday, employees honored him with a party at the plant and presented him with a fishing pole and reel. Mr. Grabe has been employed at the local firm for about five years. He and his wife are moving to Mountain Home, Ark. NAMED MANAGER Samuel J. Roti has been appointed manager of Metropolitan Life Insurance company's Waukegarv district office, 23 North Cotinty street. REDUCE RATES James W. Karber, chairman of the Illinois Commerce commission, announced Thursday, May 2, that Northern Illinois Gas company would make reductions in its rates amounting to more than $1,000,000 annually. Karber said that the rate cuts resulted from discussions by the commission r>nd its staff with company officials. VAL PETERSON NEW PRESIDENT OF MCHS BAND Val Peterson was announced as new president of the M.C. H.S. band at the annual band banquet held Tuesday evening of this week in the school cafeteria, attended by about 150 persons. Other officers include Fred Cooper, vice-president; Connie Freund, secretary; and Trudy Freund, treasurer. Jane Macdonald was announced as new student director. Janice Bush, president of the band this year, was the capable mistress of ceremonies, and other officers who took an active part in the program were Roger Thompson and Rick Burns. The presentations of letters and silver and gold pins were made by Supt. Buckner, Assistant Supt. Schoenholtz and Principal Martin. The banquet was the concluding social event of the' year for the band, which is completing its first year under the capable leadership of John Leighty. Among guests present were Paul Yanda, retired band director, and Mrs. Yanda, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Welty, Al. Affeld and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Macdonald. River road, McHenry, on May 1, having purchased the business from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuna. The Kunas have operated the popular bowling alleys for the past eight years. Grand opening will be held June 1 and 2, to which the public is invited.
