Thursday/ May 1®». 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Sunnyside Estates YOUNGSTERS FETED AT PARTIES AFTER FIRST COMMUNION Joan WatczyiMlri S85-S105 Sunday, May 5, was a big day in the lives of eleven of the youngsters in our small community. They were part of a class of sixty-eight who made their First Holy Communion in St. John's church at the 8:30 Mass that morning. Words of praise go first, to Sister Theodosia for her patience and efforts (in spite of her recent illness) in preparing the children for this big day; and secondly, to Father Weideman for his part in the reception ceremony and especially for his beautiful words to the children that morning. We congratulate the following children and their parents and ask God to bestow His blessings on all their future years: Kenneth Bott, Kathleen Farley, James Fuqua, Gregory Jesski, Luana Kayler, Brian Kobus, Janice Major, Diane Noah, Terri Raltke, Philip Voight and Stanley Walciynski. Communion Day Parties Lorraine and Steve Major had quite a houseful to help Janice celebrate this day in her life; approximately fortyfive guests were able to attend. Lorraine had prepared a wonderful buffet dinner and everyone was havipg a grand time; Then Lorraine scalded her hand \*ith hot coffee. Steve doctored her hand immediately and it seemed better, but as of the day she called with her news she felt she would be going to the doctor with it, rather than take any chances. All the guests pitched in and completed what chores remained; so the day was a wonderful one after all. Kathy Farley had a lovely celebration dinner, too. Guests included her aunt and uncle and cousins, Helen and Tom Caplis, and childreri, Marie Teresg and Tommy; and her uncle, Bob Lyons, and his friend, Marsha. Her folks, Marge and Jim, and brothers and sisters, Jimmy, Steve, Mary and Helen, help round out the party and made her day a very happy one. Diane Noah enjoyed a lovely day with some of her relatives. LaVerne and Kelly hosted a dinner at which Grandma and Grandpa Johnston and Aunt Joan and Uucle David and his friend, Bob Martin, were guests. The climax was the big. cake. Oh Happy Day! Luana Kayler spent her day entirely different. Instead of having a celebration at home, the Kayler family took a ride to Addison to visit with Luana's aunt. And like most of the celebrants that day, if they did what they liked it was a grand day for them. What started out being a small party for Greg Jesski turned out to be a family reunion of both the Jesski and Dawidiak families. The guest list from Barbara's side was headed by Grandma Dawidiak. The others were Barb's brothers and their families: Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dawid; Mrs. Art Smith and their daughters, Dawn and Joann; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dawidiak and their sons and daughter, Joey, Petey and Debbie; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dawid and daughter, Carol Ann;< George Dawid iAk and daughter, Patty. Also lifelong* friends: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Stein; Mr. and Mrs. Val Jendro and son and daughters, Michael, Valerie and Melissa. Flo's family was well represented by Mr. and Mrs. Chester Jesski and son, Mark; Mr. and Mis. Stan Jesski and daughter, Barbara; Mrs. Martha (Marty) Jesski; Mrs. Eugenia Garb; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Motyka and their brand new baby son, Joey. Last but not least were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Felicetti and Jerry Ripley. Barbara and Flo felt that they were about the happiest couple in the subdivision, for what the guests didn't know was that they had so many reasons to celebrate. Besides Greg's Communion and a family get-together; their daughter, Vicki, was making her confirmation on May 8; Vicki's birthday will be June 3 and Barb and Flo's eighteenth wedding anniversary will be June 30. Wow! What a day the Jesskis had! Our son,. Stan, had a thoroughly enjoyable day. From evening, he was smiling with evening he was smilling with happiness. We all shared his happiness, just as we had shared the anticipation and work of preparing for the big day. We, too, had quite a houseful. Grandma Walczynski, Auntie Aida Zmudzki and children, Peg and Bob, came out from Chicago; as did my two aunts and uncle, Clara Herman and Val and Ben Weich. Stan's aunt and uncle from Joliet, Janet and Jim Anderson, and children, Steve and Mary Jo, also came to help celebrate. His Auht Loretta and Uncle Bob Mikkelsen and cousins, Mick and Rick; plus "Auntie" Millie, "Uncle" George and "Auntie" Vi from our own community rounded out -the celebration dinner. Grandma and Grandpa Holtfodt couldn't come up for dinner (Grandma's been very bad lately) but he did go down and visit with them for a little while? and Grandpa did get up here for a short time, too. All in all, it was a lovely day, long to be treasured in our memories. our community. Bob White, son of Jean and Harvey Garber of Oakleaf Drive, had a day off from school in Chicago a week ago Friday and decided to arrive out here before Jean and Harve returned from work. And just how do you suppose he got here? By train? By bus? By car? No, none of these. He bicycled out. Bob left Melrose and Lakwood Avenue that morning and arrived here six hours and twenty minutes later, a tired but proud young man! On the good advice of their neighbor, Pat Bott, he took a hot bath and rubbed his leg muscles with alcohol and, believe it or not, he was still able to walk the next day. Congratulations, Bob! Sad News • I'm sorry to report two unhappy items. First, our friend and neighbor, Ed Marczyk, entered the Lake County Sanitorium in Waukegan, on May 7. He will spend at least two months there undergoing tests, etc. I'm sure he would appreciate hearing from his many friends and neighbors, thus helping hirn to pass the long hours. Secondly, we extend our sympathy to Sharon and Darryl Bathke on the loss of their new-born son. (The Bathkes reside in the former DeFrancisco home on. Hilltop Drive). Sharon was home alone when the little fellow decided to put in his appearance, but somehow she was able to call her neighbors, the Felicettis, who in turn called the Rescue Squad. As always, the rescue squad arrived immediately and took both mother and baby to the hospital with John Stone giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation the entire way. The baby lived three hours in the incubator before his little lungs gave out. Golly, what would we do without wonderful neighbors! We are happy to report that mother, Sharon, is home and doing just fine. Whispering Hills were invited to attend regarding the water situation and they turned out in good number. After presentation of facts received from tne water company there was a lengthy discussion on same and a decision finally reached. One other item was discussed early in the meeting. Ray Jensen has resigned as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 144; and as a result the boys at the present time are without a leader. This troop is sponsored by the association and the boys have worked hard on a number of different projects for the community. It would be a terrible shame to have the troop disband for lack of leadership. Ray has certainly done more than his share and even now is willing to assist whoever would consent to being Scout Master. Therefore, a volunteer (or volunteers) is needed. Think about it. Dad; wouldn't you like to share this phase of your son's life? Mlssfd The Show Little Diane Noah was to have been one of the models in the St. John's home and school association' fashion show en May 7. However, she took ill on Monday and had to forfeit appearing. From what we hear it was a great success. (We missed it, too, because of illness). will have their annual springplck- up-anythirtg and ever'ything- d^y. That's just one week from today and this will be the only reminder I can give you, because they will no doubt be here and gone by the time you read next week's column. Remember, then, May 23, Pick tip Day! Happy Occasions Happy birthday this week to the following: On May 17 to my brother-in-law, Bob Mikkelsen, as well as Barbara Jesski. On May 18 to Mary Lemmons. On May 19 to Richard Voight who will be two years old, as well as Robert Pinkonsly. On May 20 to Rose Tillich. Hope you all have a lovely day. Once more, there are no wedding anniversaries to report. Great Example The President would certainly be pleased with the example of fitness that we have here in S.E.H.O.A. Meeting Thursday, May 9, there was a special meeting of the association to discuss roads further as well as discussion of the water situation. Due to the inadequate attendance from our subdivision the road program had to be tabled. Residents of Pistakee Terrace and AIR CONDITION =~5Y0UR CAR WITH THE FINEST! Front St. McHenry 385-4004 Girl Bcotat NeWs Troop 88 spent their regular weekly meeting doing the following: Attendance and dues were taken. Then there was a flag ceremony. Next, they planned meals for camp. The balance of the meeting was spent listing to badge requirements. The meeting ended with a friendship circle. Cookie hostesses were Joann Hilliard and Regina Kern. Troop 88's leader, Alice Bieschke, is also going to be day camp director this year. She held unit counselor training two days last week. And a reminder girls, your registration for day camp must be in by June 1. Troop 295 spent their weekly meeting as follows: Attendance and dues; discussion of agenda for court of awards; work on skits, etc.; planning of menu for that day. Our meeting, too, ended with a friendship circle. Spring Clean Up On Thursday, May 23, H.O.D. Signing Off Well, I almost didn't make it this week. What a week of Sickness we had at our house! Just when I had decided to do nothing but rest for a week after the party, Mary Joan started the ball rolling by getting sick on Sunday. She was home until Wednesday. Tuesday evening little Paul got sick and believe it or not, he is still not completely well. Wednesday evening young Stan got sick and by Thursday Daddy and L had just about had it ourselves. Well, thanks to our prayers and medicine, we are all on the road to recovery and, God willing, we'JJ stay that way.. And my apologies to all the Mothers! I don't know how 1 overlooked mentioning it last week; unless it was the excitement of the Communion day: but I certainly hope you all had an especially happy day. Please be as generous with your calls this week as you were last. 'Bye now! Holiday Hills ASSOCIATION MEETS MONDAY AT MAHON HOME IIM Yoang Be sure to attend the next meeting of the Holiday Hills Property Owners association to be held at the home of Mary and Bill Mahon, 1509 W. Birch St., next Monday, May 20. Are you interested in your community? Well, sure you are! Then let's all work together to make it a more attractive place to live. The place to find out what you can do to help, and what many others are already doing, is at the association meeting. It's so easy to see the things that are not done and to overlook the things that are done. Each extra pair of hands adds more help to the jobs to be dobe. Don't forget next Monday. Pag* Twaniy-lfoa The Thursday evenings'program was presented by the McHenry high school bands and choruses. It was thrilling to hear such fine music. Coming from a small town, I am always filled with pride when I see the tine things done in a smaller community like McHenry. These young people deserve a great deal of credit tor their efforts in developing their talents. I attended the performance because by daughter was in the chorus bur. while I was there I spotted a few familiar faces--Tom Landis played the trombone in the band, Sharon Larie, Pat Schuppe, Sue Ahlgrim and Madelyn Malstorm in the chorus. Both performances were under the capable direction of Adele Froehlich, editor of the Plaindealer. The gals jon the committee are Chadv J^y. Jtmmie Juste*, Virginia Lurwlelius, Phyl Harper and Mary Mahon. Couples Club Luau The Couples Club of St. John Lutheran church will attend a luau at the church next Sunday evening. Musical Festivals The past weeks have brought a great deal of enjoyment to anyone interested in good music. Speaking from a personal point of view, I can't remember when I enjoyed two evenings as much as I did on Sunday, May 5, and Thursday, May 9. The Sunday night occasion was the date of the Mc- Hcnry Choral Club concert. Virginia Mroz, of 2503 S. Lilac, here in Holiday Hills is a member of this club and gave a very enjoyable performance. This was the first time I had the pleasure of hearing Virginia and the Choral Club and I surely will make every effort to attend any and all such programs in the future for they afforded an evening's entertainment long to be remembered. Woman's Club Banquet Thirty-five ladies from Holiday Hills enjoyed a play and dinner out on Wednesday, May S, As long as they were out several of the gals decided to finish off the evening by bowling a few lines. Most of us came home quite (?) late. Real fun once a year!!! Greetings Belated birthday greetings to Debbie Jo Gabriel who was five years old on May 8 and to Gail Schroeder who became two years of age on May 5. Belated anniversary greetings to Phyl and Jim Harper who were married 14 years last Tuesd&y, May 14. Swimming Got out the kids' swim suits to see if lasts years still fits--ii not, better get a new one by June 18. Once again the Woman's Club will sponsor swimming lessons at the lake beach. Instruction will begin on June 18, but there will be a registration date before that. Please watch this column to find out this date. Ricky'* First Birthday Ricky Wyczesany had a big day, Sunday, May 5, when he celebrated his first birthday. His mommie, Vi, served a lasagna dinner to his Grandmother, Mrs. Ann Wyczesany, and all the Wyczesanys, Uncle John Savini and cousins, Jack and Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dudek from Roselle, and Ricky's maternal Grandmother, Mrs. Francis Smid.
