Tweniy-Sl* f"' ! THE McHENHY PLAINDEALER ' M 1-f.<•»...*,) v. ;f «»#*...,r»*» Thursday# May 16, 196&- McCullom Lake Name New Teen £3ub Sponsor Evo Lrvftqw ^The Griffins--the club organized by the teen population *--are fortunate to have Mrs. Mildred Watson for their new sponsor. Mrs. Watson, the mother of three children (two irf them in their teens), is well qualified for the job. Last fall, She headed the homecoming committee which arranged the floats for the high school. She has also worked with the Girl Scout program. For this reason, die knows young people and 'Vvill be an attribute to their organization. This reporter was forced to give up the job after eight months of working with the young people. My schedule of activities conflicts and they need someone who can devote ftiore time to them. During the time we associated, the fellas and gals were extremely respectful and co-operative. We are fortunate to have the fine calibre of young men and ladies Jn the teen group that we do have. The club will be having weekly dances at the beach each Saturday from now on. The program got under way lar;t week. Petey Schmidt had excellent help for the party such as Joanne Mai, Marie McKim, and Grace Kinsey. A grand time and one we hope will be repeated. The gals will meet next on June 13--the second Thursday of next month. Water Level Is Rising This is excellent news for those who realized the level of our lake was down more than two feet. It will rise even more, artificially, if necessary. A dam is to be constructed near the outlet which will allow more water to fill the lake. Other restoration means will be employed according to Gene Piotrowski. Funds are in the McHenry State bank for this purpose. The excellent ehoices were made by Judges residing outside of our community. They were Don Howard, McHenry police magistrate Who substituted for Mayor Don Dohertv: Tonv Varese. a Chicago businessman; and Mrs. John (Daisy) Smith of McHenry Shores, representative for a cosmetic firm. We were fortunate to have these three people take the time to appear at our affair and they truly endeared themselves to the gals. Betty Relter who was judged most comical wore a chapeau of silver foil trimmed with lilacs; Karen Scarbrough (most unusual) was adorned with a huge straw hat. The brim turned up and held a multitude ol beautiful flowers, topped with a sprinkling can. A Future Thespian Nothing prosaic about the career Bill Houck has Chosen for himself. Bill is the son of Betty and Henry Houck, former residents. The young man who served in the Navy is now a drama major at Foothill college, San Jose, Calif. Bill has his sights set on Hollywood for a long time and may get there yet. During his senior year at McHenry high, Bill sang many solos and the young women fairly swooned. He has an excellent voice.
