Monday, May 27. -- Mr. Mc- Intyre will be attending a seminar for clerics, along with many other ministers and priests, at Beloit College in Wisconsin. The featured speakers at this "Beloit Dialogue" will be Father Gustave Weigel and Dr. Marcus Barth. Wednesday, May 29.--6 p<fn. Brownies will meet. Birthdays Happy birthday May 16 Jackie Radner, Charlotte Urban and 8 year old Jackie Dalton. On May 18 Lynn Stuart and 3 year old Russell Tucker will be celebrating. Best wishes to Martha Marie Roths who was 7 years old on May 19. May 20 was shared by 6 year old Donna Patryas and Mary Vestgard. Birthday Parties There was a knock on the door at 2413 West Country Lane and upon opening it there entered some of the best dressed young ladies of McHenry County. Pamela Campbell was celebrating her seventh birthday and joining in the celebration were: Rhonda Shewe, Peggy West, Sally Hawkins, Lynn Kellogg, Darcy Marcotte, Robin Tucker, Barbara Ann Krebs, D a r l e n a C a m p b e l l , D o n n a Campbell all of Eastwood Manor. Barbara Morris, Cristie and Ernie Oberhuber all of McCullom Lake. Lu Anne and Joanie Williams of Crystal Lake. All came dressed as "Little Miss Grown Up." Helping with refreshments of cake, ice cream and punch were Moreen Moore and Shirley Campbell. Christa Chappell received a make-up kit after being chosen as ' Best dressed for the day" by Mrs. Frank Woolwine. Barbara Ann Krebs also won a prize. Bob Kellogg celebrated his birthday on May 10 with a family dinner with Pat's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Potter and Len and Dolores Lawrence coming over for dessert. Mike Kellogg had a birthday party on May 11 with a family dinner with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Potter, also. Steven Lanctin became a great big two years old on May 14. He shared his cake Around The Manor On Saturday the Walt Kucks made a trip to Eagles Point in Fox Lake, had something to eat and then on to visit Tom and Betty Schweiss who reside in Fox Lake. All in all they had a very enjoyable day. The kids were very disappointed that they couldn't be out in their boat because of the bad weather. On Mother's Day the Elmer Urbans spent part of the day with Charlotte's parents, the Kaufmans, ir. Melrose Park and then on to visit Al's mother in Chicago. Dottie and Glen Messer spent Saturday night playing cards with Caroline and Gil Congdon. Had a very nice evening. On Sunday they went in to Melrose Park to spend Mother's Day with Glen's mother. OnNBaturday Bob and Pat Kellog, Pat's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Potter, and Len and Dolores Lawrence had an enjoyable evening bowling. Sunday Len and Dolores Lawrence and family attended the First Holy Communion of Dolores' niece, Susan Locascio in Chicago. Susan is Dolores' godchild. The McHales had Jeanne's mother, Mrs. Helen Nelson, as a weekend guest. Bob and Rosemary New- Ion spent Saturday night roller skating. They have really become roller skating enthusiasts. They have taken lessons and belong to the roller skating club at the local rink. The Fenners, had quite a busy day Mother's Day. They had breakfast at the home of Lydia's mother, Mrs. Lillian Zgorski, in Chicago. Then Dick and the children took Lydia out to dinner. ^ On Monday Lydia and Dick had a cookout lunch with Mel and Kay Stephenson. On Tuesday, Lydia's sister, Rita Loveless, and four children and Lydia's mother, Mrs. Lillian Zgorski, came out for a visit. Saturday, Mel Griffith's twin brother, Bill, and his family came out to visit. They attended the pancake dinner at the Legion home in McHenry and had a lot of fun confusing every one. On Sunday they entertained Louise's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Siadek of McHenry, and Mel's mother, Mrs. Ruth Griffith, and the Ben Griffith family for dinner. On Tuesday, May 7, Hugh Saynor attended the band banquet at the high school as guest of his daughter, Lynn, and Hugh, Jr., took as his guest Miss Judy Wright of Lilymocr Hugh and Lynn both received awards that evening. Hugh received a gold pin for being in the band 4 years and Lynn a letter for being in band 3 years. Thursday evening my husband and myself attended the band and chorus concert at the high school. It was just beautiful. What talent all those youngsters have. Mother's Day we journeyed into Lombard to visit Hugh's mother and dad Mr. and Mrs. Lappeneit, spent the afternoon there and then went into Elmhurst to visit my mother, Mrs. Rick. We had a very enjoyable day. On May 14 Hugh, Jr., and Lynn attended the chorus banquet at the high school. Hu;*h received a gold pin and was presented a second place medal which was won when he sang with the octet at the competition in Elgin. had hot dogs, all the trimmings and games. . Den 12--had their last meeting last Thursday, May 9. They had a treat of ice cream, cake, cookies, and milk. They made Father's Day gifts and played games. Pack 454 will have their last pack meeting of the year, this will be a picnic on May 26 at 2 p.m. at Fox Lake State Park at Wilmot, Wis. Pack 162--Den 1--The theme month is a circus. They are very busy getting ready. They are having a peep show, a freak show, popcorn and lemonade for sale and coffee. They will also have costumes. Den 2--These boys are also very busy painting scenery, costumes, and the circus ring. The pack meeting will be held on Monday, May 27. Brownies The Brownies had a tea for their Mothers on Wednesday and a ceremony. They w^l march in the parade on Memorial Day. Girl Scouts Troop 436 Last week was their last real meeting. On Wednesday they had a Mother--Daughter Tea. This Troop consists of twenty girls and they all received their second-class rank badges and their Troop badges. Roxanne Freund received her adventures badge and Lynn Newlon her roller skating badge. They will have a meeting on May 29 to discuss marching in the Memorial Day parade and for their Troop camping which will take place June 11, 12 and 13. Holiday HUk Two Musicians Win At Contest Inez Toaait On April 27, the Illinois grade school band association held the state band contest. Students who took firsts at district contest were entitled to compete at the state contest. Joey Landis took a first on his solo (Harlequin) a third division solo and John Hale took a second on his second division solo (Morning Glory). John Hale and Mike Sobacki took a first division rating on their duet (Rod and Nod). On May 3, the McHenry junior high school held its twelfth annual spring concert. Mike Sobacki and John Hall played their duet. At the concert, John Hall and two other members of the band were awarded the V.F.W., music achievement award which sends them to the Egyptian Music Camp in Southern Illinois. John and Mike were chosen to play their duet at the Bridge Club Peggy Anderson of Mineral Springs was hostess this time. Winners were Rita Simpson, booby prize, Marilyn Truckenbrod traveling and Pat Kellogg high. Bunco Club Hostess for the evening was Frieda Durkin. She served date-nut bars and coffee. Winners were first prize to Frieda Durkin, bunco prize to Jeanne McHale and booby prize to Erica Haldeman. Vacationers The Frank Woolwines spent a very enjoyable two weeks in Florida. They drove down with Dolores' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Innocenti of Addison. They went to visit Dolores' Grandmother, Mrs. Cimino, who lives in Hollywood Fla. Dolores and Frank went to the Jai-Lai games, the race track, and visited Eden Rock. Frank's mother, Mrs. Woolwine of Chicago, stayed with the children. Dolores says it's nice to go away but quote, "It was sure nice to get bacK to good old McHenry." The Bob Kelloggs, Pat's parents, the Potters, and her sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Floyd Baldwin, just re turned from a two weeks stay in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They made a trip to the mountains and visited the rain forests They visited Old San Juan, El Moro Castle and Fort Cristabal. They also spent a week at Del Ray, Fla. Also spent quite a bit of time in the surf. They went deep sea fishing and Bob caught his first sail fish. It will be about 3 months before it is mounted and shipped here. The weather was just marvelous, 85 degrees and over the whole time they were gone. The Lawrences took care of the children. Almost forgot Bob did some scuba diving also while they were in Florida. Kiwanis Club merit award dinner on Thursday, May 16, at the American Legion in McHenry. ' Our heartiest.congratulations to these three boys, but expecially to Joey and John, for they are from Holiday Hills, and we're ever so proud to claim them. A special congratulations to John for the V.F.W. award received. Soldier Conies Home I eavesdropped tin a touching scene, Thursday, May 15, when I saw Norm Strossner come home from a tour of duty in France and greet his Mom and family on the front lawn. It was easy to see how much he was missed by ail the family. As they entered the house Marcella was brushing tears of joy off of the shoulder of his uniform. Welcor¥?c home, Norm! Dance In Stardust The annual Holiday 'Hills spring dance is coming up pretty fast now. Ticket sales for "Dance in Stardust" arc going so well that extra tickets have already been ordered. Be sure that you have yours. Don't forget the date -- Saturday, June 15, at the V.F.W. in McHenry. Breakfast Tickets are now on sale for the first breakfast of the season to be sponsored by the Griswold Lake Athletic Club. Tickets don't have to be pushed, anyone who has been 1o one of their breakfasts wants to go back, and these boys have quite a following from all over the area. Don't be left out, you can gel your tickets from any member of the Athletic Club. The date is June 9 and will be held at Clint Ravens farm, oh River Road, about 3 miles north of Rt. 176 and 3 miles south of Rt. 120. Connie Abbink--Historian Connie Abbink was installed in a very impressive ceremony, as the first historian of the newlv formed junior auxiliary of the V.F.W. Our congratulations to Connie and best wishes in the new job she had undertaken. Honor Roll Students Two more students were listed on the junior high honor roll, namely Linda Dolatowski from the eighth grade and Jim Harper from the sixth gradj. Congratulations kids! Get-Well, Wishes. Wc send get-well wishes to our favorite patient, thest days, Patty Baird. I'm sure it must seem a very long time to a girl Patty's age to be away from her home, family and friends. We miss her too- -thos« twinkling eyes and sparkling smile, and can't wait for the day when the doctors say she's all well again. Patty, you rest a lot and do what the doctors say, and remember, even if we don't see you, we think and talk about you often and arc all praying for your speedy recovery. Our very best wishes to two other patients this week, neither of which live here bu1 are very near and dear to residents here.
